| I'll start this new reading thread, since I just finished a book worth commenting on. Consipracy of Fools, by Kurt Eichenwald is the most comprehensive story of the rise and fall of Enron that I could imagine. It is seven hundred some odd pages of meticulously documented information, but reads like a John Grisham novel (one of his earlier ones, that is). I can't recommend it enough. Fascinating.

| I didn't read that one, Barbarians. Is that the one about the RJR Nabisco buyout?

| I really like Nevada Barr. Is The Hard Truth a new one? I think I've read everything else. I just finished The Kite Runner from a tip on the winter reading list and just started Gallows View by Peter Robinson (a British mystery series). Aderyn |

| That sounds like a fascinating book, Maggie. I put in a request for it at my library; they'll send me an email when it's available to check out. Right now I'm waiting for "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking". I saw an interview with the author on "Charlie Rose" and it sounds like an interesting read. Has anybody read it?

| I think I already asked the question, but if you guys will indluge me: I'm looking for another good mystery series. I finished Patricia Cornwell's "Kay Scarpetta" series last Fall. That was just fabulous. Right now I'm finishing up a good book in the "Andy Barrington" series. Have you heard of it? It's a little shallow, but fair. I have a Jodi Picoult book to read (can't remember the name, but it is one of her new ones. I've read most of her books). I read one of Kathy Reich's books and found it so similar to Patricia Cornwell that I decided not to read any more. I happened on a book by Beverly Barton and really loved it. She is pretty raunchy with language, but the mystery plot was engaging. Enough so, that I bought the rest of the trilogy and read it. I think it was called "As Good As Dead." I'm listening to "The Prodigal Daughter" by Jeffrey Archer in the car right now. It is pretty engaging too. I'm about to give up my membership in Audioqueue. They are just too slow getting the CD's to me! I can listen to another whole book while I am waiting for them! I did join Audible.com and have downloaded a book from them. That worked pretty well, but used 5 blank CD's! (The Kite Runner) Thanks for suggestions. Love that this thread started again. Thanks, Maggie! Peace, Peg

| Hi Peg, If you like Patricia Cornwell, I strongly recommend Kathy Reichs. Her heroine is named Temperance Brennan. The author, like her heroine, is a forensic anthropologist. Very much in the same vein as Patricia Cornwell, and a very enjoyable series. Everyone I know who likes the Kaye Scarpetta series also likes the Tempe Brennan series. You might also like the Nevada Barr series being talked about earlier; in this series, the heroine is a national park ranger, as is the author. Aderyn |

| By the way, Peg, thanks for the tip on the Kite Runner on the winter reading thread. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have a whole new perspective on the situation in Afghanistan now. I am passing it along to my sister tomorrow. Aderyn |

| Oops, I just re-read your post and realized you'd already tried Kathy Reichs. Sorry about that! How about Patricia Fairstein? In this case, her heroine (whose name escapes me) is a DA for the sex crimes unit in New York. It's also a very well-written series with a good "ensemble cast." Have you ever checked out Books on Tape? They actually have books on CD, as well, and I always found their service outstanding. They have a "pay in advance" feature that is a nice savings, too. I really miss BoT now that I no longer commute and don't have enough car time to make it worthwhile. Aderyn |

| I swear i'm getting senile. I went to the library last week and checked out 3 books. 2 of them were ones I've already read. ugh Just finished William Bernhardt's Hate Crime on wednesday. And started another John Sandford Prey novel yesterday. I really wish I had started reading him in order. Not that you have to but it just makes it flow better. The last one I read he was married for years and in this one he's thinking about proposing to Weather (his wifes name). |

| I'm a big fan of English mysteries. Martha Grimes, P.D. James, etc. Currently reading Elizabeth George. She is another American that writes excellant English mysteries. I'm on my 6th book of hers. Her Seargent Havers is my favorite sleuth. Sort of an anti-hero that is vulnerable and gutsy at the time. |

| Hey, Dan, did you know a new Elizabeth George book just came out? Also, several of the series have been made into PBS "Mystery" movies and they are very good! Aderyn |

| I just read a great book, Moving Target by Elizabeth Lowell, wonderful murder/mystery linking 13th century celtic with modern day weavers... check it out. Also read Murder on the River Walk (set in san Antonio Texas) by Carolyn Hart.... pretty good... I enjoyed it because it was set 90 miles from where I live Currently working on Split Second by David Baldacci, gripping, got caught up in it in the first chapter, and can't put it down.
