| Ok, i went the other day to get my hair cut at the same salon i go to every time but this time the girl whom usualy always cuts my hair was booked and another girl took me. i was scared beacuse almost every time i end up like that i hate my hair. i shortly after the beging of the year i went w/ a new cut the wedge cut where the back was REALY short and the front taperd down. My hair has natural curl to it so when they cut it while wet they have to account for that. First off i explained to the girl i just mainly needed the back trimed up for the most part . "ok" then standing there w/ my top of my hair pulled back in i explaind that i wanted to be able to still pull it back on the top. "ok" . "Not a problem" she says. so she asked if i would like shampood i said sure so.. she did. explaing to her after she washed it that my hair has natural curl but that i uslay dont wear it curly she started chopping away. in confusion my hair kept looking worse and worse instead of better. the girl who usualy cut my hair was doing a perm beside where iw as sitting and i noticed threw the mirror she kept glanceing in fear at my hair. a few times i caught her looking horrified but not trying to express it. She got to a point and i said umm are you going to do somethingabout the dog ears you gave me she cut the front streight instead of taperd. so she starts cutting. well to cut this down even more (like my hair.) she mesed my hair up and said im going to have to give you layers all the way around. haveing recently watched Shrek w/ my children i got smart w/ her and said.. "oh yeah i do kinda look like an ogar now you know w/ layers." i dont think she caught my joke/scarcasm. anyway. i leave Monday for my vacation to see family i have some never seen (inlaws) and well lets say i have sat down and cried 5 times over this cut. i look like a boy im not a person who looks good w/ this SHORT of a cut. i seriously wish i was the type of person whom can complain but now i feel like im just better of buying a hat and well hopeing my hair starts growing REALY FAST.! none will tell me they dont like it but ugg something i guess you would have had to see how much i loved my previous cut and well see the stress as a mother of 2 young children who has NO time to mess w/ her hair stands for 45 min just trying to make her self not look manly. :( sorry there is probly no question in this. but i felt i needed to vent everyone thinks i should have said something there and then if i didnt like it ... and should have refused to pay for it.. but that is not me i paid for it and was still nice and tipd the girl. oh well. next time i will make sure i get the girl who knows what she is doing. (i might post a pic befor end of weeknd of the new cut. if i can allow my self to have my picture taken :( thanks for allowing me to cry out on here ang

| Aww Gilley - sorry this happened to you! And at such a bad time. A tip is supposed to be for good service and you sure didn't get that. But I think most people would do the same and not complain. Then go home and feel like an idiot. I've been there. |

| Gilley, So sorry for your angst. I to, know the feeling of a *bad* haircut. Try not to obcess over it, you'll make yourself crazy, kiddo...I know easier said than done Can you get some products like mousse or gel and kind of *style* the front/bangs and then kind of scrunch and muss the back, and let it go more curley? That's what I did with a bad cut one time, and I got all kinds of compliments despite feeling overly *clipped* Do post a pic...some more folks might have some helpful hints...ya never know... But, I'm betting it not as bad as you think Have a fun vacation!

| My hair is really hard to screw up but I have had it done a time or two...once just like you I tipped like normal and then went home and cried about it...with curly hair...get some curling spray and let it be natural for a week or two...Matrix has a great curl defining spray that holds nicely and keeps them from frizzing...if it can keep mine from frizzing...it will work on anyones fur! With layers...take a rounded brush and comb the ends under just a bit damp and any good gel for curls will hold that too...framing your face instead of letting it stick out at the sides...I bet you look great no matter what...and afterall your hair isn't who YOU are! Enjoy vacation...and HAVE FUN!

| I'm so sorry that happened to you! I, too, had a bad haircut in April. I have (had) long hair nearly to my waist, all one length, except for bangs. For a change, I wanted a FEW subtle layers in the back. Well, lemme tell ya. When I told the young chicka who cut my hair that I wanted layers, I hadn't realized that the current trend now is CHOPPY layers, and that's what I've got. Four choppy layers, starting at my shoulder line halfway down my back. I cried myself to sleep that night, and I'm 44 years old. Not that age has anything to do with feeling upset, but I haven't cried over my hair since I was 13 years old. When I wear it down now, it looks horrid. I have to wear it ina ponytail at all times until it grows out again. Anywhoo......just keep this in mind. It WILL grow back. I'm still waiting for my shortest layer (just at my shoulder line) to grow longer, and then I'll have it all whacked off to that one length, and begin again. (((((HUGS))))) to you!!!!

| Aaarghhh, nothing feels worse than a bad haircut, because YOU see it every time you look in the mirror! Poor you, Gillie! I can't help much except to say like others, I've been there too - like April, my hair was long and straight for a long time - went to someone new, asked for a trim, she cut it TWO INCHES shorter on one side than the other! How the heck can that HAPPEN! But it did grow out and now I ONLY go to my "regular guy" who has been doing my hair for over 20 years - he charges $35 for a trim but it's worth it not to have it screwed up again. Hang in there, girlfriend, just adopt a BIG SMILE for now and it will grow out - one of the bennies of eating this way is that my hair grows SO fast now! Hugs..... Char

| Sorry to hear about your hair disaster. It really stinks to get a bad haircut, especially before going on vacation. Feel better.

| This is horrible! I can really feel for you sweetie! The only positive thing I could think of for you is that you will have something to talk to your in-laws about...incase you were wondering what to talk about. I wish I could just give you a hug. I bet they'll love you so much that they won't even notice your hair sweetie. |

| Gilley - I know you're not ready to laugh about this yet but when you are: Let it Grow! (sung to the tune of "Let it Snow!") Lyrics by S. M. Schmidt (with profound apologies to Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne) Oh my newly bobbed hair is frightful My long hair was so delightful That stylist is now my foe Let It Grow! Let It Grow! Let It Grow! My tears are finally drying Cut the damage due to dyeing I'll let it turn white as snow Let It Grow! Let It Grow! Let It Grow! It doesn't show signs of stopping My butt it will soon be topping Only one more foot to go Let It Grow! Let It Grow! Let It Grow! |

| aw ang.... i am so sorry... bad haircuts can really make you feel terrible... and when they make you FEEL like a guy.. that is even worse.. but BELIEVE me.... with that face.. awwwwwwww girl... aint NOBODY gonna mistake you for a guy...*L* anywho...give it 14 years and you MIGHT be able to laugh about it (although robs song just had me almost wetting my pants laughing) cause my SISTER can finally laugh... i took HER down to the middle of her back and hacked it and hacked it and HACKED it in beauty school (she was stupid enough to be a model for me *L* ) i kept trying to get it straight and man... long straight hair shows every little mistake.. *L* so by the time i got done.. it was to her shoulders.. and THEN i had to CURL and style it... i did curls all over (i am laughing just remembering it here ) when i get back home in a couple months i will post of picture of what it looked like..*L* hysterical...the curls made it at LEAST another 4 inches shorter still ...*yikes* but .. it WASNT funny at the time.. to her OR me... having BEEN a cosmetologist ( A MILLION YEARS AGO) i can TELL you this... the person KNEW that you were unhappy... they had to... if they DIDNT do what you wanted.. they knew.. what happened next is what happens all to frequently... people are inclined to TIP for reasons they SHOULDNT.. out of habit.. the ONLY thing that gets a persons attention.. is the LACK of a tip... that hurts the ol' pocketbook.. that being said.. i HAVE tipped people who are APOLOGETIC about bad services... whether it be a hairdresser or a waitress (excuse me.. WAITperson *L*) me personally? i LOVE razor cutting... man... you give me a razor? i wont stop till they look like a new army recruit *L* but.. i dont DO that anymore.. i dont have a license *grin* didnt get it renewed after i had kids.. (a zillion years ago) some of the hints here are good... try to do what will make your hair the best it can be...for now.. right now my hair is nearly to my shoulders..heck,.. its there now i guess... i havent had my hair CUT since my hairdresser that i finally found (ONLY did it ONCE and i was thrilled..) quit.. (her daughter had a life threatening disease ) ... until i feel like suffering through what YOU just went through.. i am holding off...*L* i may just have the longest hair on record before i take that plunge again.. (((((((((ang)))))))))))))) |

| Gilley, big hugs!!!! You have just been initiated into the club! It's a big club and we never have meetings but you can tell new recruits by the big hats, downcast eyes, and tears. So sorry you had to become a member, hon, but it must be one of those rites of passage. I think stories of horror haircuts have the same effect on women that stories of crotch injuries have on men.....a sympathetic OUCH! So can you tell? Been there, done that, bought the tee shirt! Maybe you can scrunch it with some gel and make the best of the curls, and wear a touch more makeup than usual. Put on a that big smile and no one will notice your hair anyway. And hopefully you can turn this into a "funny story" to intertain the family. I know it's not what you wanted, but I'm betting on you. Then your regular hair stylist will help you get it trimmed as it grows so you can get your stylin' groove back.

| Oh, gilley! I feel so bad for you. I've gotten a couple of those cuts! Like you, I have a regular person (woman, good friend) who cuts my hair but she is in another city and only works 3 days a week, so it's not convenient for me to see her. Once in a while I will go somewhere else....last time I only allowed another woman to trim my bangs and boy did she! Thankfully, bangs grow out quickly! Whenever I do stray from my regular gal, I try to find a gay man. I have always found I've been happy with haircuts by gay guys. I went to Carl for YEARS before he moved and I've only been a "regular" with Rita not nearly as long. Someone once told me they are not competing (in their mind) with you like other women are. Like women are all so competitive and don't want you to look as good as they do. I don't know if I "buy" that philosophy! I just go by my own experiences. [Sorry ladies who are hairdressers! You've gotten some great advice about managing your hair for the time being. Do add some makeup, some way cute sunglasses, and a big hat. And since you're coming to Texas, I'll let you in on a little secret: alot of women here pull their short hair back into bobby pins, then add a ponytail (hair attached to a hair comb). Add a bow or scrunchy and it just looks like you've got your hair in a ponytail. Just be careful about matching color if you choose this option. I just wish I could wave a wand and help you out. Sorry that I can't! Have a good time on your vacation and just try to put the hair thing out of your mind as best you can. Hugs to you!
