Thoughts on two years of eating low carb

Today marks my two years anniversary of eating low carb.

As of today I have lost 52 lbs, I probably could have lost more, but I thought I could eat ?non low carb? foods and still lose weight?.

There are many things I have learned and I will try to touch on many of them in this posting.

I have learned that certain foods cannot be eaten at all by me while other foods have no effect at all?.

I have learned that I have to be strict and only eat on plan, jumping off for just a snack is disaster for me?.

I have learned that I can? t eat sugar without it making me crave more and more and more and more?(I am currently on day 46 of no sugar).

I have learned that I must drink my water, and exercise regularly.

I have learned what happens when I think I can eat a little bit of this or a little bit of that.

I have learned what happens when I let people or situations dictate what I will eat.

I have learned that I must plan, plan, and plan not just one meal, but all meals, at all times ? even going out for dinners, or going to other people?s houses ? I bring something I know I can eat with me, when I know there is a special luncheon at work, I make sure I have food with me I can eat?.

I have learned that I made the choices I made, and am not angry at those choices, maybe a little disappointed, but those were the choices I made and I have learned from them and that I have to live with those choices

On June 27th this year, I recommitted myself to this way of eating, and have so far lost 14 lbs.

I see some hard challenges ahead of me ? Halloween, thanksgiving, and Christmas. Since we have no children, I can always leave the house on Halloween and not worry about buying candy.

Thanksgiving is always at a friends, we camp out for the weekend, and for the last two years I have made sure I bring food I can add to the pot luck for me to eat. Christmas?. Will have to rethink a couple of things I normally make, maybe suspend making them this year?. Maybe figuring out how to make them ?low carb?.

I have learned that I want to lose this weight, and in order to do that, I have to answer to the face in the mirror every day, be honest with myself, and know that I will be eating this way for the rest of my life....

I have learned that sharing, helping, reading, listening and encouraging others on their path helps me stay on mine.

I found this spot and was so greatful for the friends that have helped me on the way, and are still helping me ....

thats all for now....
onward thru the fog....

I'm new here. Thanks for putting it all down like that. Many of those things I've noticed but didn't openly recognize. Like planning out your meals etc. Annnd staying away from certain foods. That has been one of my biggest pitfalls.
Very good shopping list to look back at as a reminder, to help with your/our future choices. Tom.

Thanks so much for that Carolyn. I so appreciate you being a member here. Having lost 52lbs and kept it off for two years is an AMAZING accomplishment - so don't downplay it by saying "I could have lost more."

Yeah, we could all be perfect...

but we're not!

Like our new tagline says, "It's all about the journey."

Sounds like you're well on your way.

thanks for all of the thoughts carolyn... i appreciate all those words of wisdom... really truly i do..

its nice to be reminded... because one of the things that i have seemed to have to KEEP RE-learning is this:
just because i have lost alot of weight... just because i think that i have this LCing down to a science... i SHOULDNT allow myself to think that i am somehow CURED of the EFFECTS of overeating.. whether it be LC or not.. my body HAS not changed its metabolism magically...

i may LOOK like a thinner person.. but i am NOT... my body will NOT be thinner if i go back to my old ways of eating.. or even NEW ways of eating that tend to overdue it..

i may have found an important TOOL to keeping my weight down.. but it is NOT the magic that i sometimes try to FOOL myself into believing it is..

LCing as a TOOL is a terrific thing... but it ISNT a magic marker to erase all the BAD HABITS ......

only we can do that...

i thank you for your comments.. your support... and sharing your experiences in the past... and well into the future!

Carolyn............WOW.

Your first three points -- well, I could have written those about myself. You've described what I've learned about me to a tee in the 8 years I've been low carbing.

Thank you so much for starting this thread. I've visited it at least 5 times today, and will continue to do so.
