| ... the high temperature here in Hooterville was 79 degrees F. This was, apparently, the end of one of the longest, most glorious, summers in the area since I've lived here. We seem to have skipped fall this year. As I write this it is currently in the low thirties and we have about 8 inches of VERY wet snow on everything. ![]() 6,000 + people in the immediate area are without power, the heavy white bleep having brought down electrical conduits - or tree limbs that have assisted in taking the surrounding power lines down with them. I'm pleased to say that, thus far while usually the first of the victims, I seem to be amongst those spared. (Good thing, too. I not only need electricity to heat, I need it to get water out of the bleepin' well.) I also can report that I was able to locate both boots and gloves this morning (!), although finding my snow shovel when I got home was a different story. It was carefully hidden under and behind the big bush not far my front stoop. Both issues a testament to both my procrastinative tendencies and the length of our last winter. As an admitted procrastinator, not only do I still have my summer tires on, but my dresser drawers are crammed with baby dolls and halters. Most of my turtle-necks and flannel pj's are still in hermetically sealed boxes in the basement. My cats insisted that I immediately see to a pristine litter-box in the basement, since there is no longer any suitable dirt outside. My deck furniture and whatever remains of my back deck herb garden are covered with this heavy, HEAVY, snow. *** sigh *** - Place flashlights and candles around in case of power outage. check - Take shower tonight in case there's no power in the am. check. - Bring up box of winter clothes. check. - Disconnect all "hose-ery" so it doesn't burst before I can haul it into the basement. - Bleep the herbs, I can buy more. check. - Put down storm windows. check. - Refresh litter box. check. - Take wool dress coat out of drycleaning bag for work. check. - Call Miller's and arrange to have my snow tires put on my road rocket ... and balanced. (tomorrow.) - Put away deck furniture and bring in whatever herbs still show signs of life. (They say it might be warm enough by Saturday. Maybe I should hang my holiday lights that same day? He**, I was just having my morning tea on the porch a few weeks ago! ) - Try to ignor the occasional flicker of the lights. not happenin. Anyone else caught with their plans down by the sudden change of seasons?

| It was 75 degrees a couple of days ago, and today, it was 50 degrees. :eyes: Not as severe, but I was shocked at the change. Today, it was raining, it was cold, I had a scarf and hat, and was wishing for gloves. For a moment, I thought it was snowing, but I was hallucinating. When my umbrella turned inside out due to the gale force winds, I wondered what happened to Fall

| WHOA-AH! OK, I guess I'll stop kvetching about the dreariness of the fog most of the day today! It did still manage to achieve 65* and the sun DID come out for a bit. Rain is predicted for tomorrow, MAYbe, but it won't need no bleepin' shovel that's fer shure! LOL!! I feel for ya guys 'n gals...brrr....winter has set in I fear! Well a TINY whine - most of the time here at the Coast we get a summer after Labor Day. Not this year. And most of the time here at the Coast we don't SEE no stinkin' FOG this time of year. OK done now. Back to feeling sorry for YOU and not for ME! Char

| We had that burst of snow last week that tore up 25% of the trees in the area but that same day my sidewalks were drying while a few miles south of me they were still digging. And now we are back to warm weather and it is in the 70's (was this afternoon) but that is how Denver is. Snow doesn't stay for long at this time of year. I love our weather. Still get the seasons but not harsh like where I grew up in North Dakota. I've never had winters as harsh as they were there. When it's so cold they shut down the school for no other reason then you kow it's on the chilly side. But then 64 below with 98 below wind chill will tend to do that.
