I hope I'm not raising my son to be like that! He helps around the house with cooking and cleaning and has regular chores. He has to pick up after himself and clean his own messes, I don't do it for him anymore. I told him girls won't put up with a slob. I have to admit, I am guilty of babying him when he is sick. He is the sweetest thing when he is like that, and I just melt. Sorry ladies!

Wow, what a time for me to scope out this thread! I just had a round with my DH, don't ask right now what the "D" stands for! He had our daughter bring me the checkbook and her school fundraiser so I could get it ready to send with her in the morning. Dude! You can't write a check?? You wrote me a BUNCH when we were divorced! (For child support.) I shoulda let him keep writing them. What an idiot....I mean me....for marrying him TWICE!!!!

OK why is it that people do not want to push the walk button on the stop lights when they are waiting to cross? I know sometimes it's too late but most of the time if you hit it before the cross traffic light turns green it will give you a walk signal. This bothers me for one huge reason. When they don't on large, busy streets where the cross traffic triggers the lights the lights don't stay green long enough for them to walk across the street thus potentially causing an accident and definitely causing more frustrated drivers to sometimes drive in front of these fools. Now that's not right either. But if you can press the walk button why not do it?

Maxibee I know far too many wives that write check because it seems their husbands forgot how when they got married! (and with some things the opposite is true of course and wives forget how to do things...but see more wives complaining)

Why can't people be intelligent about more than one thing?
Posting in a financial forum-gal asks about bringing down BG for surgery, I say low/lower carb. It starts a birage of "fad" diet negatives all low carb I might add, that went on for pages. Amazingly, one mod posted an example of what the OP should eat after making the bold statement "Nobody needs low carb" and the menu she posted IS lowcarb!????

Then I was in a low carb site and the people were arguing over a financial question that was a no-brainer for 29 pages!
Are they afraid their head will explode if they're smart about 2 things at once?

Maxi, your hubby & mine must suffer from the same thing. Mine will end up in the hospital ER with chest pains, which will end up being nothing more than a bad case of acid reflux or a panic attack, or a combination of the two. Of course, he will never, ever admit that he has panic attacks, so his chest pains mean to him that he's dying. On Sunday nights, he will not go to sleep until after midnight because too many people we know have died on a Sunday--how utterly stupid is that?!

As for the vasectomy, he did have one, and even after months, he had swimmers. But will he go back to the doctor and have it redone? No-oo-oooo. So it's up to me to screw up my system with pills because he's too much of a baby to have himself fixed properly! Or I could just deny him a few things, but that wouldn't be very nice, now would it?

And, of course, everyone ELSE is a hypochondriac, not him--no, never him.

OK, rant over. Now I need to go fix supper for my loving family!

Maybe they are long-lost twin brothers! LOL! Mine spent 4 days in the hospital, had every test known to man done on him, and none of the doctors/nurses believed me when I said it was all in his head.

I had to work, arrange for visitors, take care of the house, pets, DD, the mowing, etc. alone....even after he came home because of the angioplasty or whatever it is when they go through the groin.

The last day, before they did the test and found NOTHING wrong, he was laying down with oxygen hooked to his nose "so he could breathe better" so I found his nurse and asked if that was really necessary because I thought it was just adding to his belief that he had something wrong.

When the cardiologist came into the waiting room to give us the results, it was me, DD, his mom, sister, and some friends. That's when he told us there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with his heart AT ALL. I was glad they were all there to hear it for themselves.

I, on the other hand, was taking Midol and insisting my pain was just "female stuff" and almost let my appendix rupture......

This just goes to prove he and I are on the opposite ends of almost everything. :(

I'm just tired of people who want me to do their work for them. Not my coworkers, they're ok, but my tenants. I send them some papers to fill out BEFORE they come for their interview, and they bring the entire envelope without even a signature. "I figured you have all that information, you can fill it out for me." Yep. It's THEIR personal declaration, how can I declare it for them???? I understand if someone is illiterate, or nearly blind, but don't they have family or friends to help them out? And today.....it's Columbus Day, but we don't get this day off, so I scheduled recertifications all day, and I get calls from people asking if we're open, they have an appointment. Well, I don't think I'd have scheduled them appointments on a day I was going to be gone, would I? I have 3 no-shows, and I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that they figured we were closed. This isn't the first time I've had people do this. I guess they assume that since it's a holiday that the post office or bank is closed, that we are off. Nope, we get all of 6 paid holidays a year, it's been that way for over 20 years, and even though there has been talk of change, it hasn't happened yet. Oh well, I'm done ranting and raving. I'll give my last appointment, who called Friday to find out what the letter was about and said she'd be here, another 10 or 15 minutes, then she's getting a second notice. After the 3rd notice, instead of sending an eviction notice, we tell them we have to set their rent at the flat rent, because they did not provide us verification of income and we don't know how much rent to charge them based on income. That gets them running in real fast. Much faster than if we threaten eviction.

I give you a lot of credit nita, working in that environment.... I worked with project head start and title xx day care years ago... I worked there for about 10 or 12 years and I was just about at the end of my rope and burn out when I left....people were getting reduced or free day care and couldn't do the volunteer work they were required, or if they had a fee (sliding scale based on income) and they wanted a waiver for non payment....irked me when they came in with a new car big jewelery and couldn't pay 20-50 dollars a month for day care.... recerts were done every 6 months, and tho the "dad" was around most of the year, when it came time to recert, he was missing in action again.... enough ranting about that, long time ago, but it still irkes me that they knew how to take advantage of the system....

Yeah, Carolyn, and they are still taking advantage, too. HUD is trying to help us plug the gaps and catch the crooks, but there's still a long, long way to go.

Nita, I feel for you. There are not strong enough safeguards to catch people that are seriously taking advantage of their situation with housing. So people that are willing to follow rules often get left out in the cold because the system is overloaded with those that are not.

I guess we haven't had too many peeves and rants lately, it's been 3 months since anyone posted......

I just have to rant about the ads I see for "healthy eating" put out by Kelloggs. It's supposed to be healthy to eat their corn syrup-laden Special K cereal for 2 meals a day and then eat one balanced meal for supper, to lose weight and be healthy.

But eating a low carb diet packed full of nutrient dense foods is unhealthy and we are all gonna die of clogged arteries and kidney failure!

I looked up the Special K challenge. If you eat 2 bowls (2 cups) of their cereal per day, you are getting 220 calories (not nearly enough for 2 meals!), 44 gms carbs, 2 whole gms of fiber, 8 of sugar, and 14 of protein. If you add a cup of fat free milk, then you are getting about 300 calories, 56 carbs, around 20 of sugar (mostly from the milk) and about 23 of protein. Not very balanced for 2/3 of your daily food intake.

They also have a Low Carb Lifestyle Protein Plus Cereal (ha ha ha). A bowl (3/4 of a cup) has 100 calories, 3 g fat, 14 carbs, 5 fiber (better, but not great), 2 gms sugar, and 10 protein. This cereal has SUGAR, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, really good low carb foods, right?

Nobody bashes these off-the-wall gimmicks to lose weight, but they bash low carb, even though it has been proven to be an extremely healthy way to eat.

If I ate cereal for breakfast and lunch, I'd be ready to eat the wallpaper off the walls, I'd be so hungry by supper!

It happened this weekend, At watervolleyball, one of the women's son is doing atkins and I was asking her how he is doing... lost 15 lbs since jan 1st, then someone made a comment that you couldn't eat fruits and veggies on atkins...I said thats not true, you can eat lots of veggies and fruit. Oh, she said not in the first two weeks, Oh I said you eat lots of veggies and then add in fruit, ... not all fruit, I said, no but who doesn't like eating strawberries, blueberries, and other berries.... Someone said I hate to see what that diet does for your cholestrol... I said it actually lowers it if you do the program right....

So my pet peeve, is people talking about Atkins, not reading the book throughly, and then saying something about it like they know what they are talking about....

I had a friend say she couldn't do Atkins because she'd get bored with the food, and she couldn't stand the taste of those bars. ???? I told her you got plenty of variety if you do it right. Well, she doesn't need to lose weight, anyway. I guess people think that all I eat is meat, eggs & cheese. When we have get-togethers, I always bring something I can eat, and usually have to forego most of the food brought because it's so carby, but if there are veggies, I make sure to eat them. So people think I'm not doing Atkins because I'm eating veggies. Sigh.
