| Poor Maxibee!!! Did he make you wrap his gifts too? My mommy used to put all my stuff in boxes, and then make me wrap them. My DH did that to me one year, but since then he has just bought pretty boxes so that I don't have to wrap my own gifts. I really hated wrapping my own gifts.

| My top pet peeves: Using "affect" and "effect" incorrectly Using "phase" when one means "faze" And my top rant is the people who will forward all sorts of urban legend types of e-mails without giving any thought as to whether or not what they are passing along is true or not. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's partially true, but more often than not, it's a complete fabrication. That just drives me insane. And we won't even get me started on the kinds of people who won't spay/neuter their animals and just let them reproduce...

| Esther, loved your peeves and rants. I hate words used incorrectly, too. One we see here in the forum all the time is the word "loose" for "lose". I remember when it was drilled into our heads in the second grade what the difference was in these words and how to spell them. My sil used to forward us all kinds of stuff, including dire warnings that were all urban legends. I just look it up on a place like snopes.com and send her the info. Then she dutifully sends that off to all those she forwarded the original to, and to those who sent it to her. My rant today is people (like my neighbors) who drag a bunch of junk cars into their yard. And the town I live it that won't do anything about it, even though there is supposed to be an ordinance against it! Arrrggghhh!!!

| My BIGGEST of many. Smokers that throw their cigarettes all over the Earth as if they actually biodegrade on the city streets in a matter of seconds...you have an ashtray in your car for a reason. Also anyone walking that flicks their cigarette on the street or in a park. As a former smoker I must say I was always considerate adn if there were no ashtrays around I would put the cigarette out on the bottom of my shoe and put it in my pocket until I got to a place where I could throw it out. No wonder so many people want to ban smoking everywhere. Every time I see this I say "pig" out loud. Of course I am in my car saying this to myself or some crazed smoker could actually do me harm. All litterbugs shoud be ashamed. It may be only one little piece but when 10,000 people do it, it adds up. Esther, I got the email about how the Katrina evacuees were being so awful so I wrote to the supposed originator (an MD) and he said no he did not write it and referred me to smoking gun. Where they really do their research. I sent the info back to the girl that sent it in the first place. I mean those people went through enough, do we have to spread hate via emails now. Yes, a few of the many acted inappropriately but to say none of them were greatful was too much.

| Noel, those e-mails about the evacuees burned me up big-time. I pretty much said the same to all the people who sent them to me and told them to just quit sending them because I wasn't interested. I don't get too many forwards anymore as I think people got tired of me referring them to the correct info all the time! I actually had a letter published in the Rocky this past Saturday regarding a letter that someone wrote which included a quote from Theodore Roosevelt straight from an e-mail. The quote, while true, was incorrectly dated in both the e-mail and her letter which means the author of the letter never bothered to verify the quote and its citation before she sent it in. And, yeah cigarette butts bother me too. What I really loathe is the people who pop open their car doors while at a stoplight and dump out their ashtray onto the street. Ugh.

| My sister receives a lot of those urban legend emails but she goes and looks up the truth and passes that on instead of the legend. I also hate morons who deliberately light fires that threaten lives (animals & people) and homes. I hate email and phone scams. I hate spyware. |

| There have been NUMEROUS fires here in North Texas today....it's very dry here, we're 15 inches below normal for rainfall. Also, it's warm (80 degrees!) and windy. Hmmm, I wonder how these fires start? Could cigarette "BUTTS" be the culprits at least some of the time? Not 1/4 mile from us (I can see from my back fence) there were 5 houses that burned to the ground today. ALL of our firefighters in the city were busy today, and they had to call in extra personnel, as well as volunteer and reserve firefighters. And the person(s) who "may" have done it have no clue. :(

| Cigarette smokers have no clue to how bad their smoking affects the rest of us. We have a smoke-free building, so they stand in front of the building, right in front of the door, and smoke, so everytime the door opens, all that nasty smoke comes into the building. How rude! We got rid of the ash trays, thinking they'd get the hint, but, nooooo. And they throw their butts on the sidewalk or in the flower bed. Yuck!

| I'm one of those "awful" smokers. I do put out my cigarettes, and I'll put the butt back in my own pack before I'll litter. I don't throw lit cigarettes out my car window, not only are we having fire problems here in East Texas, but it's against the law, AND I don't smoke in my car or in my house. I only smoke on the front porch, and yeah... out there I throw them in the flower bed (no flowers there), but I'm also the one who cleans them up every week. My pet peeve for the day is lumping people together in one generalized group. It's called bigotry. We sure don't like it when we hear things like "fat people always...", "people with big noses must always..." Just something to think about

| Katie, I hope I didn't offend you. I just really, really can't take cigarette smoke, and there are very few smokers who are as considerate as you are. And yes, I hate people who lump everyone into one category. In my work, we deal with a lot of other Housing Authorities, and many of those who run them think all their applicants and tenants are lazy, no-good scum. It's not true. There are those few who work the system, but the vast majority are truly needy, and we are there to help them. Another peeve: People who say "You have a really pretty face." Like, if you would lose some weight, you'd be really pretty. What about the rest of me, and what about my mind and my heart?

| Smoking is a touchy subject which is why I tried as hard as I could to be consederate when I smoked...heck when I had a bad night a few weeks ago I bummed a smoke and lit up keeping the cigarette down low and not blowing it on people...low and behonld the club was now smoke free so a waitress came over and quietly took my cigarette away and put it out and took it with her. go figure. I guess the other people I had seen smoking were in the wrong too. I just honestly didn't know. At my grocery store the smoking area is out front which no I don't like the smell but that's where the store put it. I can't blame the workers. I can blame the guy or girl that dropped a lit cigarette out their vehicle so when I pulled into 7-11 I got out only to have the smoke go up my skirt and get me stinky. But some people don't think beyond themselves. That's what I don't like the most, people that don't think beyond themselves. I think most fires are caused by carelessness and not cigarettes. Though of course some are cigarettes. The worst here are usually dry lightening. Well, the worst ever was the forestry worker burning old letters from her ex and starting the fire and not being decent enough to admit it and report it right away to stop it from destroying tens of thousand of acres and taking away all that so many people had. Shame on her. I get the pretty face thing and I don't like it either but heck if I look at the guys I have dated not a lot of them have been too big and we all have our preferences. So I let that one go. One of my friends just said it to me and all I could think of was "yes, my face is far prettier than yours but I am never going to have the decent male attention you get because I will never have the body you do". She's also 12 years younger than I am. And if I don't want to stay fat I can always stick to the plan right? There another pet peeve...people like me that complain about something they actually have control over yet they give in to temptation and take the easy way out.

| Noel, you've come so far! Quit beating yourself up! Whether you are thin or fat, you are a great woman and mother. So there! A completely different peeve: People who call a wrong number, and instead of saying, "I'm sorry, I have they wrong number", they just hang up! Or, when I answer the phone here, I plainly say "Housing Authority", they ask, "Is this the bank?" (Our numbers are just one digit different). So usually I tell them no, and give them the right number. I have no problem looking in the phone book if someone got the wrong number and giving them the right one. Sometimes I can be nice. Really. Honest.

| Noel, I agree with QueenMama completely! I'm hearing impaired and especially when I was younger, I used to get these pitying looks when people discovered it, along with remarks like "but you're so pretty!" It bothered me no end, like handicapped people can only be butt-ugly?!!
