Arrow American Idol #5

It's been eight months since America crowned Carrie Underwood winner of season four. Hard to imagine it's been that long ago.

I was actually kind of hard on Carrie during the competition, but she is well on her way to an awesome career. Country is certainly her genre and she's the perfect person for the job. America got it right! I'll admit that I even bought her first CD and it's pretty darned good.

Tuesday night Idol will open with tryouts. I personally think they try to drag that out too long. How many weeks can bad auditions be entertaining?

All of that aside, Idol is back and we'll be here to analyze each performer all the way until the final episode in May.

Has it REALLY been 8 MONTHS?! Wow! That doesn't seem possible!

Last season is the first time DH and I watched it from the very beginning. Before, we couldn't stomach the auditions and horrid singers - but somehow we found it entertaining last year. We're gonna try it again this year, instead of waiting til it gets down to 10 or so finalists like we used to do.

Can't WAIT for tomorrow night's session!

Well, well...yep American Idol is back!

I think I've seen something I didn't think would ever show up on national tv. A man with a beard, hairy legs, dressing in a little blue and whited checked dress. All of this and he's wearing a blonde wig with Pippi Longstocking pigtails that curl up into the air...wires or something. Honestly, they put these jokers on through just for tv viewers and ratings.

Saw some really good singers and of course a lot of REALLY BAD ones. The first set of twins can sing well. The little 16 year old gal with the tan, she was off the wall. Hard to pinpoint people because we don't have the names memorized.

What the heck was up with Randy and Paula putting that last guy through to Hollywood? He was bouncing around on stage like a loose superball (remember those)? It's was a joke, Simon resented it and I feel it was kind of a slap in the face to the many other decent contestants who were turned away. Who knows!

Time for your opinion.

I had to tape mine last night cuz I had Bunco. My tape player neeeds cleaning or something, cuz everyone sounded distorted, even the good ones. Oh well. I watched it as SOON as I got home.

Suz, yep, the above mentioned ones were jaw droppers. Mr. Pippy was trying to be serious, I think, at least with his singing????? Mr. Superball was put through just to annoy Simon. (I kept saying, "you've got to be kidding, you've got to be kidding.....)

I had a co-worker last summer, that went downtown for the tryouts, but never got in. He would have beat them all, hands down.

DH and I LOVE watching during the "buffooneous" part. Then he stops watching, but I keep watching. (although LAST year he kept watching all season 'cuz he LOVED Bo)

Is it on again tonight? Gotta check my local listings.

Tonight more auditions, same as last night. What a riot, what's up with all of these people thinking they can sing???

I truly don't understand how they can justify sending some of these folks on. They gave the little cowboy a chance to see life outside of his cattle ranch, that's obvious. I dunno about some of the others they sent. Then, there's some really good singers they turn down.

Remember the guy who was profiled about what a great dad he is to his children and his wife was waiting outside the door to hear if he made it? Well, I was very happy to see them send this guy to Hollywood and he has talent. The homeless gal, great story there and they sent her as well. Good for them.

Paula appears to be using a little restrait with the male contestants. She's also not acting "off the wall" like last season. She got really goofey, remember, like she was on something.

No more Idol until next Tuesday and then it's a two hour show.

I think Paula's saving it for later in the season. I seem to recall that's when she did that last time.

How 'bout that Zachery, the last one they showed. I'm glad they asked if he was a he or she. I wasn't sure myself either. Poor guy, I'll bet he gets teased unceasingly in school.

Wow, so strange last night to see Simon, Randy and Paula walking around familiar landmarks that I go past by every day!

Yeah, I really don't understand some of the folks that they send through but you know that they will get weeded out early on once they get down to business in the finals in Hollywood. I sort of wish that I had taped last night's as I'd like to see "Red boots" appalling performance just one more time.

Yes, I was glad that they sent the rocker guy and the homeless gal through as they both have talent.

Yeah, but come on - like Zach doesn't work it with the shirt, haircut, and high-heeled boots. He wants to create controversy. I'm sorry, but he knew exactly what was coming.

Even his own mother said that Zach "puts it out there" or something to that effect. Truth is, I wonder what would have happened if he'd gone in there and given a stellar audition and really could sing? Would he still have been rejected? Zach took his rejection as being all about his appearance, totally ignoring the fact that he was told that his singing talent is sadly lacking, which it was. Can't help wondering if he wore normal clothes and cut his hair differently if he would just look like a girl dressed in guy clothes. Somehow, I suspect he would.

Oh well, I'll take Zack any day over that guy in the "tablecloth" outfits with the matching caps...
