Default Dr. Who's Coming!

For those of you who know and love the Doctor, he's coming to SciFi channel Friday night.

For those of you who say, "Who's Dr. Who?", here is a site that gives you an overview of this series that's been around since 1963.

http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/SciFi/DrWho/

Basically, the Doctor is a Time Lord who travels in space and time, picking up and dropping off various companions, saving the world and universe from evil aliens intent on taking over whatever world or galaxy they come across.

His mode of transport is a TARDIS - Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, and it is in the form of a blue police box. Normally a TARDIS can be turned into any shape, but the Doctor's chameleon circuit is broken, so it always looks like a police box. And the TARDIS is HUGE inside, even though it's not a lot larger than a good-sized outhouse!

The shows coming to SciFi are the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston. His companion this time is Rose, played by Billie Piper.

I have had the privilege of seeing all but one episode of this series, from the beginning, and my family and I love it. Be warned, it is very, very British, but I love British stuff, anyway. It was originally aimed at children, but has been done so that adults love it, too.

Ah, and the monsters! Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarens, and of course, the Doctor's archenemy, the Master. What fun!

It will be on Friday after Stargate, but they will still be showing Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica after Dr. Who, so those of you who are die-hard fans of those shows can still see them, albeit late.

Even if you aren't a big sci-fi fan, you might give this show a try. It has endured all these years, with a huge following, so it must have some redeeming qualities!

I forgot to add that after this Doctor, there is actually a 10th Doctor, new actor and everything, but I don't believe they have plans to show those here in the U.S. just yet.
Don't know what they'll do when they get to 12, because Time Lords aren't able to regenerate past the 12 regeneration, unless they do dastardly things such as the Master, who is an evil Time Lord, does.

Oh Nita, DH and I LOVE Dr Who and can't wait for the new series. Unfortunately we don't have the Sci-Fi Channel on our cable (can you believe it!!!) so we'll have to buy it when it comes out on DVD, supposedly this summer. Rats!!!! Sure hope the new Who is as good as the old Whos

I sure liked the new ones, and I've seen the newest one, too. Christopher Eccleston quit after the first season, and they got David Tennant to play the 10th Doctor. He's awfully cute, too. (I say that in a very motherly way, of course!) Somehow my son got the episodes off the internet, don't ask me how or where from.

And I believe a cable system not having SciFi. Ours didn't have Fox for the longest time, and we missed Alien Nation. We've seen a few episodes in reruns here and there, and just bought the entire series plus movie, and spent all Sunday afternoon watching some of them. I really love it! Now we have DirecTV, and it is wonderful! And Tivo, it's fabulous! Now we never miss CSI, or Lost, or the Stargate shows, because our Tivo is set to record them.

Do you know that the BBC allowed the first series of Dr Who to be thrown out? Because they thought no one would ever be interested in it again?

Go figure.
