Default Yard Birds - got wild bird pics?

DH and I love to watch the birds in our yard! It's how we befriended our beloved Algernon - whom we lost last weekend, sadly. But, we have LOTS of pictures, and I hope you will all share YOUR bird pics too if you have them! If not - GO TAKE SOME!

This is a pair of RedTailed hawk chicks, about ready to leave the nest for good. We watched the parents build the nest for weeks, then were so excited to see the hatchlings! (picture will follow.)

One nestling visible, with a protective parent in the background.

One of our many house finches - we also have some that are orangey/gold - they are hybrids. We call them "Peachies."

This is a Stellar's Jay - Algernon usually ran them off but every now and then they would sneak in for a peanut!

This is one of Algernon and Sweetie's brood from last year. Just about the time we got the three babies to start taking nuts from our hand, Al ran them off. You can see that the fleglings differ from the adults in that they have much slimmer heads and no blue on the head yet - plus when they open their mouths, they are bright red inside, as if to say to the parent, "Insert food here, please!"

These are Mountain Bluebirds, which we rarely see. We live on a golf course, and they have recently installed nesting boxes for these birds, so occasionally they come over for a nice bath.

Another shot of the redtail hawk fledgling, after he completed his first journey from the nest to an adjacent pine tree.

One of our many Acorn Woodpeckers who come around twice a day for peanuts. This is a male - the females have a band of black which separates the red from the white on the head. You can also tell the young'uns because their eye is bluish instead of yellow. This one is an adult.

This is Sheila, the Sharpshinned Hawk. She snags small birds occasionally from this tree which overhangs our courtyard.

This is not truly a yard bird - but an escapee from somewhere - it's called a Pintailed Whydah, a tropical type of finch. Note the VERY long tail! He hung around for a couple months, flying with the goldfinches usually. Unfortunately not a very good picture, this was before we bought the digital Canon SLR.
