Default Money Stuff (not the pay me kind, the hey I'm interested in managing mine kind)

I've come to an astonishing realization that my eating habits, my weight, my exercise habits - all of it, are sometimes in direct proportion to my income, lack of, or status of income.

There are times that I ignore my checkbook, times that I ignore my paydays, times that I want to pull my head BACK under my covers and dream that I'm fabulously wealthy and money isn't an issue.

Unfortunately reality knocks me on the head when my daughter reminds me she needs socks, or shoes, or $40 for a build a bear visit .

Reality is that if I don't keep a close eye on my money, just like I do my food, my weight, my other habits - it can cause a disasterous effect.

So I thought I'd start a thread about this topic. It's kind of personal - but hey - there are close friends that I don't tell how much I weigh... so you guys are closer. ;-)

I read a book recently - I like books - called The Automatic Millionaire. I also read Dave Ramsey's 'Financial Peace' book - oh boy, that's a nice title isn't it?

I'm looking into property investment in real estate... the safe way... and I'm tracking EVERY penny I spend with my handy dandy Pocket Quicken on my pda. I get to total up the expenditures soon, and I think I'm going to be quite shocked at what I spend...

So - if you struggle with balancing your checkbook - or your a numbers geek and like to talk numbers... come join me.

You are so right!

I am on my own, and although I love it because it means that I and only I am in control of my money, it also means that sometimes I do buy those wonderful green shoes, even though I don't really need to add to my 112 pairs of shoes.

I am currently working my way through "The Money Diet" by Martin Lewis and I totally recommend, I have already saved loads of money by implementing the changes he suggest. The website is really useful too:

That's pretty neat A! I looked at the website - lots of neat ideas.

112 pairs of shoes? Goodness girl... ;-)

I have 3 or 4 that I wear regularly...and a couple for specific outfits...but 112? Mind boggling... but impressive I'm sure.

I picked up the Smart Couples Finish Rich book today at the library - can't wait to start it. That and Container Gardening...Texas has a long growth period, so veggies will be a welcome addition....
