Default Death of Steve Irwin

We are listening to news coverage of the death of Steve Irwin AKA "The Crocodile Hunter". Apparently, he was shooting a new documentary (off the coast of Australia) named, aptly: "Oceans's Deadliest" when a stingray turned suddenly and stuck it's barb into Steve's heart. According to what I've read, his death was almost immediate.

His wife, Terri, daughter Bindi, and baby son Robert were in Tasmania when they found out. I feel so bad for them.....but I also know they must be glad that since he died, it was doing what he loved to do.

I felt this way when I heard that Dale Earnhardt died.....it is a tragedy, but he also died doing what he loved. Getting killed by food poisoning, being shot in a robbery, or a slow death by cancer or some other disease would be a bigger tragedy for these larger-than-life personalities.

Personally, I like the guy. I thought he was a nut, doing some of the things he did. He put himself in those precarious positions because he loved the thrill and it did make for good TV/movies.

Maybe it's true in some cases: only the good die young. Rest in peace, Steve.

Here's a link to a news article:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/heal...p?newsid=51155

Since they say that this animal is normally prone to fleeing rather than attacking, I have to think IT thought it was being attacked because he was swimming just above it

It's certainly a tragedy - and I occasionally watched him - but I think he tempted the fates just one time too often....

I hope he went fast! And I feel so badly for his young family....

He definately will be missed. I personally never liked the discovery channel type shows until I watched him. He was such a hoot.

Steve was a man who loved his work, loved animals - even the unlovable ones - and loved the environment. Even though he was sometimes rash and foolhardy, he still cared deeply for his work and his family.

We have a Steve Irwin doll that talks with his voice when you push his chest. It's one of the kids favorites.

I think it was just a freak accident, from the info I've heard. I don't think the stingray was trying to attack, but perhaps just got "spooked" and turned very quickly, causing his tail to whip around. Steve just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
