Default Warning Labels on Plus-Sized Clothing?

If you haven't already heard about it, this article outlines the notion of putting warning labels in plus-sized clothing in the UK.

Wow.

Comments? Thoughts?

Wow! Imagine how sad the day would be when you have to buy clothes that have a warning label on them!

I like the idea of making sure that people have a place to bike. So many times my ds and I've had to bike on the side of the road because there wasn't even a sidewalk. Promoting more ways to exercise is great!

Hmmphh! Do overweight people really need a reminder in their underwear that they need help? A tag on their tee "You're fat, so you'd better call this number, and we'll tell you all about low fat and low calorie diets!" A label inside the dress "You're an 18, you'd better do something about those rolls around your waist!"

I think they could do better educating people than with tags in the clothes. But, the idea of biking lanes, or just great walking areas, is a wonderful idea. More communities need those things.

I think it's a lousy idea. Do they really think that the obese people in the UK aren't aware that being obese is a health risk?

Does anyone really think that the warnings they put on cigarettes packs has any affect? I don't.

I know I started smoking very young (age 12) and thought I was invinceable so didn't care about those warnings. Struggled until I was about 25 even though I was plenty grown to know I should quit for my health. Remember quiting smoking? It was so gross what I would cough up in the morning. Bad enough hearing DH complain about my habit. blah, blah, blah I would say.

This article strikes me as the typical arrogance of the non-overweight person: The idea that the reason we are overweight is that we are blissfully unaware of it and of the fact that it might have health consequences, and all we need is for someone to point out our ignorance for us to be "cured." You would think a "professor of metabolic medicine" would be more informed than that.

Speaking of sizing on clothing ... I do a lot of shopping at the local walmart hehe, and they have changed their sizing. I have worn a 3X for around a year (sad but true). I went in just before Christmas to get myself a black turtleneck shirt and found that I am now in a 4X ... I was devestated, my new goal was to get to a size 2X and now I find that the 2X is a 26-28. What a 3X used to be in November!!! So now I am still in size 26-28 since the fashion industry or whoever makes the walmart clothing has decided to change things. Guess I still went down, but they have made me go back up, wow is this ever conrfusing!!! Sheesh!!!!!!!!

Lane Bryant did the same thing a few years ago, what used to be a 3X is now a 2X. Guess they figured we'd feel better about ourselves if we were wearing a "smaller" size.

How about warnings on teensy weensy clothes, like size 0-4 - Warning! You need to eat some real food, you might be suffering from anorexia or bulimia! You're just way too small! LOL!

Or how 'bout warnings on slutty clothes:

"WARNING....wearing tight jeans that nearly show your pubic area and your butt crack may incite other people to view you as a whore, and you may be hit on by ugly men with no teeth, who still live at home with their mother."

Love it, April.

Now if they can just make clothes that don't absorb body odor, so that those people who wear them for 2 weeks without washing them (or bathing themselves) won't smell quite so disgusting!

Wow, this really made me laugh, and I needed a good laugh this morning. Well starting week three of LC and doing ok. This website has been such a big help. I get lots of info and just enjoy the threads. As far as the clothes go, I agree with all said. Do thin people know what a burden it is to be heavy. I worry about riding in a plane, that the seat will be large enough. I worry when I go into a restrauant, will they put me in a booth and I won't be able to slid between the table and the seat. Will I be at someone's house and sit down and the chair will break. So many fears, don't need any more reminders in my clothes.

I let them know I do not want a booth.... its easy, and you don't have to try to get into that booth that is only large enough for the smallest of people....

I have to laugh also about thin people wearing clothes that is too revealing with out them even knowing it....

I wish they would finally get these sizes standardized... you go to one store and one size fits, go to another and it doesn;t... the worst is going to a "used" clothes store, which has all the different brands..I went in once and grabbed the size I wore and about 7 different pairs of pants and not one fit right... each was their own size....
oh well.
