| Hi everyone! Not all of you will remember me, maybe some will. I started Atkins 5 years ago, promptly lost 50lbs in 6 months and stopped. I struggled, nothing would work. No amount of exercise, nutritionist visits, restraint when everyone else was indulging in the foods that I wasn't allowed. I went to a specialist and got my thyroid under control, but the irony of that....in the time we worked on getting my meds right, I continually gained weight. I wasn't even trying. I told the doctor that if I really wanted to gain weight, I could have done a much better job!! I could have packed on a hundred as opposed to 50!! In December of 2005 I finally made the decision to look into weight loss surgery. I never thought I would ever go that route. I knew it wasn't going to be RNY. That just wasn't for me. I consulted a surgeon about adjustable gastric banding. I jumped through all the hoops, I once again, without trying, gained 40lbs before the surgery! It was insane. On 4/18/06 I underwent surgery. It went without incident and today, I'm 71 lbs lighter. I don't even know that I have the band, it is a tool to help me eat less and eat like a normal person. I know now, looking back that part of my problem was the food I was eating, but most of it was the portions. I eat about 1/3 of what I did before. It's still hard because sweets still go down, but I'm primarily eating like Atkins. Protein, veggies and fruit, I haven't eaten a slice of bread since April 1st 2006. I am in no way on here right now to promote weight loss surgery. I just wanted to stop in to say hi and let you know how my journey had changed paths. Surgery isn't for everyone, but I'm quite happy this has helped me. I think I actually might get to my goal of 180 lbs. Keep up the great work everyone....we're all in this boat together, doing it whatever way gets us to our destination. Take care..... |
