Wink News to me....I was told LC is over.....lol

Hi all here is an amusing little thing that happened to me today. I called one of my local health food seller to see if they had LC sugar free maple syrup. When I asked the gentleman on the phone there was a long pause. Then he asked again what I was looking for.

So I asked again if he had the syrup or if they carried any other LC or sugar free products ( I phoned first and basically was bored and was thinking of going for a walk there just to check it out) Anyway After another pause, he says they carry real maple syrup and it is natural......lol.

Hmmm I said well not quite and in his next reply he said..well Low Carb Dieting is dead and we got rid of all that stuff along time ago, No one does LC anymore. It shocked me a bit that he was so blunt and I replied obviously people are still doing LC WOE or I wouldn't be phoning and asking

Anyway I found this amusing this moring and thought it might make some of you chuckle as well. Does any one else have any stories?

Being a newbie I've read about all these LC products and have been looking for them at all the grocery stores to no avail! I also read about a store right here in Phoenix called "Low Carb Mall", and with the address in hand went looking for it, and it was closed down! Bummer! You're right, for many stores I guess the "fad" has died down as well as the sales of these items so since stores are all about MONEY, here we are left high and dry!
It might be a good idea to keep each other informed of good LC products we've found at grocery chains to help each other out! I'm always looking for a bargin too, and would appreciate knowing about the "screaming deals" out there! Anyone else "down with that"?

Doesn't that store owner realize that there is a market for sugar free products, not just for low carbers, but for people following low cal diets, as well as a huge need for diabetics?

Was this a small, privately owned store, or was it a chain? If it was a chain, you could contact the main office and request that they stock items for you.

The hfs we used to frequent got rid of all the low carb stuff, too. So I'm having to buy most of mine via internet. Thankfully we can do low carb without a lot of these products, but it's nice to have them handy.

Actually there were 3 stores here but that one was only 1 or 2 miles away. I originally got the info from George Stellas website and it was very OLD information. When I tried their website nothing came up so I assume they are no longer around. It seems just last year there were gobs of LC products on the shelfs and now I can't find a thing, but most of it I can just make myself for probably fewer carbs anyway! I can't even stand wasting 2 carbs on a TBLS. of salad dressing when I make some myself for zero! It definately seems that the internet is the place to shop, but I really like to go out and actually read the labels and compare prices, etc.

I know I mentioned the diabetic products too and all he said is we have some xylitol and splenda here....lol this guy. It is an independant store but it is huge and they have such unique thing I figured they would have something as common place as SF stuff. Oh well guess I didn't need it anyway...........lol.

Hey Phinixis! You might want to try the brand "WALDEN FARMS", I bought their blueberry syrup which is good and they also have a pancake syrup which is SF/Carb free/0 calorie, etc. Their toll free # is 800-229-1706 or you could check out their website to see if any stores in your area carry that brand. No guarantees on how it tastes, and I'm sure it wouldn't compare to the REAL maple syrup you're used to up there, but we make allowances sometimes right? Anyway, good luck!

BTW, just as a reality check, I've been hearing on and off that LC was dead since I started doing it in 1998...
