Default decided to work at a fitness center

Hello everybody, recently I have decided to work at a fitness center. I'm looking to work at maybe the front desk or a less qualified position until I receive my licenses to personal train. Can anyone give me any tips, or what they look for when they hire new employees? Has anyone ever worked at a gym and if so can you tell me what you did to get the job? All helpful response will be great appreciated.

I found some great tips for you that you might want to take a look at. I'm a house wife so can't offer you much advice except firm hand shake, eye contact, stay positive and smile.

Hi ...my sister did the hiring at a health club for many years. I can tell you what she looked for in a hiree. Heather's advice of firm handshake, eye contact, smile and positive outlook is really good advice. Also, they are looking for people who are going to represent their company well. So being dressed appropriately and carrying yourself in a respectful way is very important. My sister's biggest challenge was in finding people who seemed like they were going to be willing to show up and actually WORK. That's what they are looking for...people who carry themselves well and are willing to work. Good luck with finding the right job for you. AND...welcome to low carb eating

Another thing employers look for are people who truly are interested in their clients/customers, who are polite and respectful, never (well, seldom) rude, who are just plain nice to people. In my job, sometimes I have to bite my tongue to be nice to someone, but it pays off in the end. I've earned a certain amount of respect from the people I have to deal with, and it's so much easier to do your job when you have that respect and cooperation.

I wish you success!

I moved this to "Everything Else" as it was off-topic for the Atkins forum.
