| We used to have a what are you reading thread and I thought I'd resurrect the idea. I just finished "Night Work" by Steve hamilton. Next up is "the Overlook" by Michael Connelly. unless I get the call from the library today that my reserve is in. I reserved Lawrence Block's latest, "Hit and Run" which was supposed to come out today. This was the first time I ever was number 1 in the hold queue! |

| Hi Rob!! I see you have an addiction to a good book like me. Nothing but a fun chick book for me right now. Just finished The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger and now am reading another one of her books called Everyone Worth Knowing. Think I'm reading these diva fashion books right now because they get me involved in a different world of my own. Love my own boring life to pieces because trust me here boring is good because it usually means little stress. Reading books on spontaneous women makes things interesting without getting myself into trouble. |

| I recently read Matt Taibbi's book The Great Derangement. Both hysterical and depressing at the same time. Taibbi has a bit of the Hunter Thompson about him. Then, there was the very dark The Road by Cormac McCarthy. One of those "end of the world" type of novels. For an antidote, I "took" one copy of Dean Koontz's latest Odd Thomas books. Whew ... back into the light. I also enjoyed the latest David Sedaris book: When You Are Engulfed in Flames. I always enjoy his quirky essays about every day life. Sometimes makes me chuckle out loud.

| I've also just finished a Dean Koontz book...The Husband. Fun read. Now I'm back on a Nora Roberts book...I love any of her books. A little romance filled with a good story line. I'll read just about anything I can get my hands on but lately I just want easy reading...nothing I really have to think about.

| DW is a former librarian who feels obligated to keep me supplied with reading material. As my job involves reading lots of non-fun stuff, she is always on the look-out for anything that she thinks I would find relaxing to read. To get me ready for the sequel, about which she read a good review, I have just finished Ken Follet's "Pillars of the Earth". Prior to that, I read Tim Willock's "The Religion". Last week I read the new James Bond book, of which I promptly forgot the name, written by ?? The next book on my list is our book club selection "Running with the Bulls: My years with the Hemingway's" by Valerie Hemingway.

| yes Heather I definitely enjoy a good read. Thanks Maggie for the heads up on The New Sedaris book. and also Dean Koontz' latest. I put them on reserve this morning. Finished The Overlook and enjoyed it very much. I'm trying to find new authors to read and this was the first Michael Connelly I've read. Next up is Dead Center by David Rosenfelt, another new author I enjoyed for the first time last week. |

| Rob, Thanks for starting this thread. I love David Sedaris! Too afraid to try Mc Cormack again, tried to read Blood Meridian and I am off of him for life! Dean Koontz is fun! Donna, I like my Nora Roberts every once in a while. Great fun reading! Heather, I loved the Devil Wears Prada. If you are looking for fun fashion type books, I just got "Chasing Harry Winston". Looking forward to it! Right now I am reading Gore Vidal's Lincoln. V. interesting, but for me a slower read. I like his books. My favorite was Julian. Rob, I don't know if I can keep up with you! You read a lot! It is going to give me great ideas!

| Recently finished "The Day I Ate Everything I Wanted" by Elizabeth Berg. Great summer reading since it's a collection of short stories, but I'd say it 's a chick read. But OH SO GOOD. Also "Mistakes Were Made (but not by me)" by Tavris and Aronson. Non-fiction. and "My Stroke of Inspiration" by Jill Bolte Taylor. Excellent! Her TED lecture is riveting and I highly recommend it Jill Bolte Taylor's powerful stroke of insight | Video on TED.com Next book club selection is Water for Elephants. Anyone read it? Also thanks to Maggie for the heads up on the new Sedaris.

| Mab - you don't have to keep up with me. I go through periods where I'm lucky if i finish 2 books a month or where i read 3 books a week. Thanks Brenda for that Video link. I listened to Jill Bolte Taylor being interviewed on NPR. Fascinating. Finished Dead Center yesterday and started reading Lawrence Block's latest, Hit and Run. So far an excellent read but i always enjoy anything LB writes. since I was #1 on the reserve list i get to be the first one to read my copy. |

| Finished the Lawrence Block and only had one more library book left. started reading and realized I already read it. Library won't be open until monday So I combed through my home library to find a book i haven't read. So far it's a toss up between Ed McBain's Killer's Choice or Michael Chrichton's Next. |

| Isn't it the pits being bookless over a long weekend? Of course, Rob, you and I should probably get a life

| Well, I ordered some books from Amazon for the long weekend. In my head I referred to it as my "vacation in a box." Ok. So I should get a life, too. ![]() It turned out that ONE of the books took up most of my free time this weekend. "The Story of Edgar Sawtell" by David Wroblewski. It runs nearly 600 pages ... and, no, I do not have the large type version. I don't know how to describe the story. It covers less than a year in the life of a 14 year old boy. But it's filled with history and insight into the people around him and the dogs for whom he is responsible, in such a way that I really was interested. Not trying to be cryptic here, but it's hard to describe. There's a Shakespearean quality here. If you read it to the end, you'll understand what I mean. So, I've done absolutely nothing so far this "long" weekend. Tomorrow is laundry and maybe some time on WoW.

![]() Maggie - I've been hearing some wonderful things about "The Story of Edgar Sawtell". They had a 40 minute interview with the author on NPR the other day. Sounds fascinating. It took the author 10 years to write it. Great decision maker that I am, I still haven't been able to choose which book to read. since I'll be at my sister's most of today I may as well wait until tomorrow when the library is open. |
