Default Colon Cleanse

Does anyone have experience with colon cleansing? I've seen a few products on the market that tout it's therapeutic benefits.
I did one a year or so ago. It was a series of pills. the first couple of days it was stool softeners followed by mild laxatives. I never really noticed much if any effects or results.

Thanks!

Yes, I use them. About twice a year or so. The one I use is herbal and very gentle. So you can take it and not worry about going somewhere, well at least for me. Not one of those expensive ones that implies you will lose weight with it. It is for cleaning the colon out.

This is what the one I use has as ingredients (from the seller's site):

Quote:
6 caps - Bentonite - 150 mg., Citrus Pectin - 90 mg., - Organic Wheat Grass - 60 mg., Cascara Sagrada - 78 mg., - Lactobacillus Acid. and Bif. - 4 billion/gm., Barley Malt - 60 mg., Buckthorn - 60 mg., Golden Seal Root - 60 mg., Black Walnut Hulls - 60 mg., Psyllium Seed Husks - 3600 mg., Vitamin C - 20 mg. Contains - no soy, yeast, milk, sugar, salt or artificial anything. Gentle, but very effective colon cleansing formula. 3 caps twice daily - recommended for 3 months. This is the greatest and should be taken by people with colon problems, colon cancer and poor nutritional absorption. It is called HHA Colon Enhancer.

As for the effects, it just makes me feel better. I also use a Parasite Cleanser and am just about ready to start one this week. I do it about twice a year. I like to detox myself every now and then.

I just had a routine once-every-five-years colonoscopy, and I was curious enough to ask the doctor who did it about colon cleansing. His reply was that it was a great way for the pharmaceutical companies that sell the cleansing agents to make a ton of money, and that most of them aren't harmful, but that if you have regular, normal bowel movements they're totally unnecessary.

And that if you don't have regular, normal bowel movements, the best way to adjust them is by adding some psyllium, either in a liquid suspension such as Metamucil or in capsule form, to your routine every day. Adding flaxseed to your diet also helps. And in a last resort he suggested stool softeners -- not harsh laxatves.

Kat - This sounds like the one I used although I can't remember the brand name. I was an herbal thing too. Never noticed a thing with it.

Nadine - Thanks for the insight. I probably don't get as much fiber as I should. I think I'll look into the psyllium caps.

Gregg,
Back when I was experimenting with Master Cleanse I did these daily. The SWF, not the product.
Salt Water Flush
I can tell you this, YOU WILL be clean after one.
It is quite the experience. It is very very effective at cleaning you out from head to ummm toe.

Did you feel different? I know you feel different after a parasite cleanse of course. But how did you feel after the salt water flush? I take it you need to stay home while doing this????

I was doing the SWF as part of a Master Cleanse regime. It is quite the "spiritual" experience. The MC thing. I would do the SWF at about 2 hours before leaving work, as soon as I got up. It would take about 20-30 minutes for the effects to explode. Yes, must stick very close to the porceline throne for about 1 hour after.

I've sent you a PM.

I'm one of those who thinks that our colons work just fine, thank you, without having to go through a cleanse.

This site has some good thoughts on it:

http://health.usnews.com/articles/he...cleansing.html

I particularly liked this line:

""The colon is very efficient at ridding our bodies of waste." Unfortunately, the detoxifying work of the colon and other organs may be hindered by bad eating habits, say experts."

The only things I didn't agree with in this article is that red meat is a culprit and that we have to add grains to our diets for a healthy colon.

I do think that eating a good, low carb diet lends to having a healthy colon, w/o the need to cleanse it. However, if you feel that colon cleansing is of benefit to you, I certainly wouldn't try to dissuade you. Each person has to find his own path.
