That's a strange reaction for a sting from an animal. Have you called her vet just to describe what you see, and ask if she may be allergic? If you have a good vet, they'll help you over the phone first, and have you come in only if there's a problem..

Wish I'd seen this sooner, Donna. Yes, my various little dogs have been stung several times. If it's a bee, you have to get the stinger out with tweezers. It can be very scary for them, as well as painful.

And my vet says to give them a Benedryl (yes, the human anti-histamine) as soon as possible. Helps with the inflammation and allergic reaction. Then just watch her. Remember that she got a big dose for such a tiny dog, so if she starts swelling anywhere, has trouble breathing, or if the site starts looking bad, take her to the vet. Most of the time, though, they'll be ok.

Donna, generally a yellow jacket does not leave a stinger, but a honey bee will. If you have any meat tenderizer, as soon as she'll let you, you can mix a little bit with water into a paste and dab on the bumps. That will help take the swelling down.

Donna,
How is the poor little dog? I feel so bad for her.
I hope that she is ok...let us know!

She sounds like my cat Muffin. I stepped on her paw a few weeks ago, and now, whenever she sees me watching her, she starts limping. (LOL)
I had it checked; and her paw is fine, but she is milking it, too.

An herbal remedy for stings (bee and wasp) Try to find plantain in your yard. It's a weed that is as common as dandelions. It has roundish leaves with parallel veins running from the stem to the tip of the leaf. The leaves grow in roundish clusters (rosettes) and they have seed stalks that grow straight up from the center of the plant. The stalks a LOADED with seeds (which is the source of psyllium husks by the way) They look like teeny little hostas, because they ARE hostas. Take a good full handful of leaves and wash them. Then put them in a blender with a bit of water. Blend it up until you get a good paste. Keep it in a jar in the fridge. When someone or a pet gets stung, take a cotton ball and douse it with the paste and stick it on the wound with a bandaid. It relieves the pain and the swelling IMMEDIATELY. When my kids were growing up, I kept this remedy in my fridge every summer, making a new batch every season, and had it at the ready. The neighbor kids would even come over to get their sting medicine. You have to get it on there immediately. A couple of day later may not help. Your poor doggie probably is suffering from the excruciating itching from it now. If she will let you, try to find some benedryl cream say........at Walgreens, and put that on the spots, it should help with the itching. I got stung on 4th of July and was scrambling int he yard to find plantain. I found one plant and stripped it. It really helped.

I use benedryl to sedate my dog during thunder storms and when the garbage thunder trucks come through town.
