I was getting a Netrition order together and noticed that they have a REALLY low priced VCO. It has all the "right" wording on it. Has anyone tried this one (if I remember correctly it is the Now brand)? I love Tropical Traditions, but it is pricey, which is fine if it is the best quality available. I'm just wondering if some of the cheaper stuff is just as good.

    Thanks!

Yes, I got the NOW VCO from netrition recently. I can only compare it to Trader Joe's expeller pressed coconut oil, though, as I haven't tried Tropical Traditions yet.

    They are very different.

Trader Joe's organic coconut oil is very nearly odorless. I can detect no coconut aroma or flavor.

NOW VCO has a distinct coconut aroma and taste. There's a ~very~ vague hint of something else in the flavor that I'm not sure about. It's not sour, but it reminds me of sour. It leaves no after taste. Again, that background flavor is very, very faint.

When solid, they both have a smooth, melt-in-your mouth texture. The NOW VCO is a little more smooth than the Trader Joe organic coconut oil.

I haven't tried either one in my pits.

Teelbee - Your post makes it sound like a winner to me. I have both the EPCO and VCO from Tropical Traditions, and their VCO does have a coconut aroma and a slight taste. I think I'll give the NOW brand a try. It's soooo much cheaper. If it's not the quality that I'm used to, I can always just use it for my body moisturizer instead of the more expensive Tropical Traditions stuff.

    Thanks!

    beth,
I'm not a VCO expert by any means, but....I bought the Now brand of VCO and it tastes and performs just fine IMO. I've been making candy with it, and it works for me.

I agree with you all. The Now brand says all the right things and is similar in consistency, taste and smell to the LivecoconutOil brand.

I also tried Trader Joe's and was disappointed; however, I will use it up as skin/hair conditioner and deodorant (well, what did you expect me to say )
