This has been kinda interesting to follow, but absolutely no mention of how these people eat. DH is even getting into it.

I was watching it last week when they were going to get rid of some of the people and decided to keep them all. Do you really think him "badgering" them will make them do this ? I think he is good but I am one who doesn't take badgering well. For me the more support and encouragement I get the better. In the past when hubby would comment that "it isn't doing you any good" I would immediately give up. (after all if he doesn't see any difference no one else would) Then I realized that I think he is afraid that I would go to "greener pastures" with some of the comments he would make when he did notice. Wow am I getting off the subject ! I may watch some more to see what will happen next.

I remember when the Atkins foods started coming out, and everyone was saying that Dr. A was trying to make a buck, and started bad-mouthing him.

Well I was at my local Walmart the other day, and saw a whole bunch of Dr. Phil bars and stuff. I still haven't heard anything about his diet other than that it is one. Does anyone know what type of diet he's having these people follow? Is it just low cal/low fat, or something else?

Dr. Phil bars?!

Ahaahahahaahahahaa!!!

Not a chance. The guys a pompous a**, and full of himself more often than not.

Wonder if he'll follow his own diet - he's not exactly Mr. Svelte, himself.

Dr. Phil bars????

That does it. That really, really does it. I'm going to have to start marketing my own Dr. Insomnia bars. My slogan will be, "All the other bars s**k worse!" I'll be so rich.

Yes, I have seen these around too. I haven't even picked up one bar to read the label. I'll bet they are high fiber, low-fat and full of sugar. He puts down all the other plans.....Atkins, Zone, Sommersize, CAD, all of them......and then comes up with his OWN line of products and a book. Give me a break......."oh I lost 50 lbs the Dr. Phil way." Now, wouldn't that be someone else's PLAN??? I am still watching the series on weight loss on Mondays...........There hasn't been one mention of their food, not one.

I've never learned anything from watching what this man says about weight loss.

It seems like all he ever does is bring an overweight person to the mic and say "Ok, you are fat and you need to realize this, take responsibility for it and accept it's your fault. Now - go do something about it today!"

WELL DUH!

Usually he follows this with something like "We have a saying in Texas that..."

He makes all us Texas seem real dense.

And I'm gonna make it this time!

Here's an article about Dr. Phil and his diet plan that I thought was interesting:

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/27/bu...taste.html?8bl

Note especially:

quote:
Like others of their kind, the heavily fortified vitamin and mineral bars with 20 to 25 percent of the recommended daily intake of saturated fat taste like a sweetened chemical brew. The first five ingredients in the fudge brownie bar are fudge syrup, corn syrup, sugar, hydrogenated starch and high-fructose corn syrup.

!!

Dr. I, you may be on to something there. At least you'd be telling the truth.

Thank you Cheftrina for that link. I have been a fan of Dr. Phil for a long time, since he was on Oprah yrs back. I have always like his "in your face" approach. Now that he is touting himself as a weight loss guru, I have really lost some respect for him. He hasn't given the other "plans" any credance whatsoever. The fact that his meal replacement bars contain such weight loss sabotaging ingredients just shows me that he doesn't know what the he** he is talking about. I so want to write his show, but haven't come up with the right way to say it. Every other word would be beeped.

I agree that a lot of peoples' weight loss problems stem from psychological roots, but he just has no clue how sugar affects the body. And yes, the psychological aspects SHOULD be addressed, but so should the actual foods these people are putting in their mouths. It just really irks me that he hasn't addressed this issue at all. I am still watching EVERY Monday just to keep a watchful eye on HIS "program" or "plan.

I REFUSE to buy his book or any of his bullcrap supplements. So when the series is over, I will probably write his show with MY opinion. I will tell him about MY weight loss success and how I did it............with REAL food and REAL vitamins and REAL exercise. He talks about getting REAL. Well..........Dr. Phil if I were any MORE REAL I would be fake. grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

It seems he is not so interested in helping people lose weight as he is in lining his billfold.

Forgive my bluntness, but until "Dr" Phil loses 40 pounds sucessfully on his own weightloss plan for which he charges everyone else, I'll not believe a word he says. Its easy to Pontificate, its another story to be living proof.

I've actually been watching Dr Phil a little more lately. But I try to keep it all with a grain of salt. I'd heard of one guest who was there and Phil started talking about something totally different than her predicament and then proceeded to lambaste her on national television. She was too mortified to say anything and had the tact to wait until the cameras were off. But apparently Phil had run her out of the studio on a rail for something that she didn't do. After hearing this Phil has lost some credibility for me. Sounds like Jenny Jones tactics.
