I recently bought this huge bag of wheat r=bran flakes at my local health food store. The flakes are really small, almost like ground but still flakey. It has 7 carbs and 6 fiber per 1/4 cup. My question is what can I do with this bran without going out and buying a whole lot of other things? Thanks Angel

Angel,
I have the same stuff in my cabinet. When I started Atkins I didn't realise we could subtract the fiber so I thought I had to throw it away or give it away. I now love that it is only 1 carb per 1/4 cup. I use it on all my food along with my flax seed. I just sprinkle them on after I fix my plate. It really is great for keeping you regular.

I have also tried to make a hot cerial out of the flax but it got really, really slimy! I found if you mix the wheat into it, it helps that and it tastes like Cream of Wheat!

You can crush them up, mix with a little melted butter and splenda and make a nice pie crust for cheescakes and custards.

Jen, could I just use the wheat alone with cream, splenda and some cinnamon maybe? Would this work?

Dan, they are already finely ground so thanks for this great idea. I have been trying to stay away from cheescake since I believe that the cream cheese causes me to stall or slow way down. Thanks

I haven't tried that. I always mix the flax into it since I have it and it is so super good for you. If you try it, let me know how it turns out.

... 'cause it goes so good in my cereal. Which tastes any way you want it to and keeps one nice and regular on this way of eating.

I'll have to try it with the SPI. I was finding the cereal I made with just the wheat bran and the flax to be missing something I couldn't put my finger on. What made you try the SPI in it Maggie?

I had tried the Flax-o-Meal brand hot cereal and liked it, but didn't want to pay almost 10 bucks a bag for it.

So I looked to see what they used for ingredients that were common to all their flavors and that turned out to be flaxmeal, bran and SPI. By trying them in different amounts, I found that mixing them by weight gave me the right result. I especially like that I can have any flavor I want in the morning.
