I belong to a group that does rescue for Welsh Corgis (rescuing them from pounds, puppy mills, etc.), and also provides funds for healthcare for these rescued dogs through a group called Corgi-Aid.

One of the ways we raise money is with an annual auction of dog-related items. These are mostly Corgi-related, but not entirely. All of the items are donated, so the price for any purchase made goes 100% to Corgi-Aid, which is staffed entirely by volunteers.

If you'd like to see pictures of some CUTE Corgis, and maybe find a dog goodie or two for your furkid, visit www.craftsforcorgis.com and click on the Corgi auctioneer.

And remember, "rescued dogs are love recycled."

Aderyn, how wonderful that you're involved with a rescue organization. Both our doggies are rescues, and from terrible conditions.

Take care~

Hey, you're smarter than me. You rescue LITTLE dogs. I rescue German Shepherds (and other large dogs) and I'm AFRAID to add up how much I spend on dog food in a month! (visit my website, www.gcgsr.com )

They've ruined carpets, destroyed furniture, dug up landscaping, and my house is so dirty I'm even embarrassed to have other dog people in here -- and it's the best thing I've ever done. All my life I've agonized over the number of good, adoptable animals that are destroyed in shelters each week, and I finally feel like I'm doing something about it.

OPPOSE THE DEATH PENALTY, PEOPLE -- SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!

We raise standard poodles(one litter a year) and this year I had the whole litter spayed and neutered before they went to their new homes. The new owners loved it , and it gave me peace of mind knowing our puppies won't ever end up in puppy mills.

Dogface...

I LOVED your website and bookmarked it in my GSD section of favorites. I am mommy to a 9 y/o spayed F GSD (Tara) and a 11 y/o neutered M Chow mix (Gunner...he's a shelter dog). They are wonderful! Tara, who gave me my screen name, was just diagnosed with Addison's Disease this past June. I almost lost my poor girlie, she was so sick. It was at that time I realized how much she really means to me, and I, like you, will always have to have a GSD in my home.

Interestingly, my CAT'S best friend is the GSD who lives next door! She is such a wonderful dog, and treats Zeke (cat) with much more respect than he commands from his own doggie-siblings.

It is so wonderful and heartening to hear about the rescue owners, rescuers, and responsible breeders here!

Terrific Website, Dogface! Really a good job!

Trust me, GSDs have got NOTHING on Corgis when it comes to keeping your house full of dog hair! When mine are blowing coat and I brush them out back, it looks like I've been shearing sheep. They have that same double coat that looks so nice and smooth on the outside and hides a zillion cubic yards of fuzz underneath.

Most of us have just learned to consider it part of the decorating scheme--you know, attractive drifts of dog hair disguising the chewed spots in the carpet, lovely multi-colored, ever-changing fur carpet in the bathroom. I think I even realize a cost savings; by the time I shuffle barefooted through a room or two, my feet are so covered with hair I don't need house slippers!

LOL!

Love this post. That's really great what you're doing for these dogs, Aderyn. And kudos to everyone who gave their heart to their animal(s)My dog sophie was rescued from the North carolina flood from hurricane Floyd in 1999. I have a cyclone vaccum and it needs to be emptied 4 times while vacuuming the living room weekly. I sometimes have to do it twice a week or wear those "attractive drifts of dog hair" out in public. lol

All I can say is love me, love my dog! I have Weimeraner (big difference in dog hair my last dog was a Chesapeake Bay retriever and the fur balls he dropped when he blew coat were the size of rhinoceroses (sp?)). She is pushy and has to be with people - tough rocks! That's why I got her. She was originally bought out of the back of a truck by a woman in Florida who had never owned a dog before - she got suckered by the gray fur and blue eyes, but had no idea about these kinds of dogs! They must be with their people or they get neurotic LOL! This woman did a pretty good job with the pup, but really didn't want a dog that requires so much attention. So, I lucked out!

I admire all of you who are in the rescue business (can you really call it that?). There are too many people who take on the responsibility of a dog without really acknowledging what it means to have an animal. They get dogs before having children and then decide to get rid of the dogs after the kids arrive because it's too much work. Not that they are mean people, just not clear on the committment that they must make to take a dog in to their families. Hat's off to you, rescue people, though I wish your services weren't necessary.

OK, all you doggie rescue people! And my hat is off to all of you too BTW....

My Mom, who is 73 and still very healthy and pretty active, would like a small dog, female, 2-3 years old, that will cuddle with her and keep her company. I'm thinking shorthaired like maybe a Chihuahua or cross of some sort.

I would love suggestions! And if you know of a rescue of that type in the Central Coastal CA area, I'd love to hear about it too.....

There is a neat website "Pet of the Day" and I submitted Moses' story to them. He was named "Dog of the Day" back in June of 1999.

Share his story...

Isn't he cute?

Very sweet pooch!

I have 4 dogs, three min pins and a pit bull who thinks she's a min pin (had her since she was a puppy and min pins are all show knows).

One of my min pins passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 14, he was diabetic, had to have two insulin injections a day for 3 years. When a co-worker heard, she knew of a couple who had a 10 month old male min pin that they were trying to place so she got us in touch with each other and I brought my new addition home yesterday. We already love him and my other pups like him just fine

I'm sorry people, but you haven't really dealt with dog hair until you've had a husky.

Both huskies we've had were rescue animals. They've been wonderful members of our family. Our current boy is getting on in years, he's 13 -quite old for a husky.

Aderyn, where abouts in Michigan are you?

Hi Brightlady--I'm in Ossineke, about 15 miles south of Alpena, by way of Flagstaff, Arizona, but interestingly, I'm a graduate of Brighton High! I just sent you a private note about LC stores in Brighton...
