Wanted to let all of you coco-nuts know that tropical traditions is having sale on their one gallon size of VCO. Evidently today through Sunday only, one gallon for $51.00, and free shipping.

I'm considering it, even though it's not a great time of year to be buying more than I need.

I think that is great. I don't know how long it says fresh. Does it go rancid? That is a heck of a lot of oil! I wish there was someone in my area that would like to split the cost and the oil. I think I might try and make some on my own. It says on their site how they do it. Worth the 2 bucks for the coconut to experiment.

Jen, it doesn't go rancid like other oils. You can keep it at room temp, and it will stay good for at least a year. At least, that's the claim. But yes, sharing would be a good option--I'm not up for making any, but I'd love to know how it turns out if you try it.

Can coconut oil be refrigerated? That does sound like a great deal (I love free shipping!) I'm thinking along the lines of dividing it up and storing a part in the fridge while using the other.

According to what I've read, it can be stored in the refrigerator, but there's really no need, since coconut oil is not at all prone to rancidity. Coconut oil has been used for centuries in the warm countries where coconuts are native without being refrigerated and without ill effects.

Thanks BC for all the info. You're the VCO guru around here as far as I'm concerned. I just placed my order and can't wait to get it. Pretty soon I'll be joining the ranks of the "pit-testers."

My pits have been smellin' SWEET for weeks now!

Love this stuff...

I also buy the EPCO from Trader's because DH is NOT a fan of coconut flavor - so for the stuff where the flavor will come through, I use the EPCO. I figger it's better'n NOT using coconut oil!

Thanks for letting us know.....I love this stuff, and I'm amazed at how a little goes a long way. I leave mine out so that it's easily accessible, and it's easy to use since it stays in the solid form.

I just love using this oil with chicken!

Well, my gallon is ordered, although I may have to wrap it and put it under the tree

Thanks, Esther, but I'm not as much as expert as I am an "inquiring mind" sort of gal. I know some of our members, moderator Sharron, for example, who've been using coconut oil much, much longer than I have. I can only take credit for exposing my pits to all of you

lol

Bren, I actually think YOU talked me into trying it!

Seriously, Marcie has been using it the longest, I think.

I have yet to take the plunge for the VCO -- I was going to get in on this sale, but I missed it!

I use the EPCO -- Tropical Traditions is what I've been using, though I have a new pint jar from Trader Joes sitting in the cupboard.

Blessings!

Sharron, you'll love the VCO. The smell is so "warm" --- especially now that it's getting colder. Makes me wish I was at the beach. The taste is really good with the right foods, too.

Wow, Sharron, I really thought you'd been using the stuff forever. But yes, Marcie's been cooking with it--I do remember that.

Beth, every time I use the VCO I smile. It is good stuff.

Tropical Traditions is having a sale on their VCO again -- this one is a buy 2 quarts get one free!!!

The EPCO is on sale, too, but not as dramatically. I got a gallon of that.

Also, I decided to try their deodorant. I'll let you know!

Blessings!
