| Hello Ladies, I went out to my shop and in a deep dark corner came up with a container of "rainbow henna" Made by rainbow research lab in Bohemia NY,I used to buy it at our local health food store. The color I have is called marigold blonde and its ingredients are Neutral henna, camomile, and marigold. there was a shade of mahogany that was beautiful if you like the rich deep red, and they also had true red, I don't know where you can get it, but, there is a number on the back 1-800-722-9595,I also used to use one that came in a bag... agave.., no thats the tequila worm , anyway I'm sure of persian. And Kim you aren't THAT old when I was in hair school they hadn't come out with the henna with metalic additives yet(hennalucent is one that comes to mind)that makes me, like waay old.Oh yeah it says if you perm do it before the henna cause henna coats the hair and your perm may not take as well.

| Thanks, Jackie. ![]() Now I've got at henna referral and some fillers from Kim. More stuff (other than soapcaps) to play with between touch ups. ... and I much prefer the deposit only/filler types of things to soapcaps, since they really make my hair look healthier.

| Nah. I'm older, but my exposure to hair coloring goes way back to when I was a kid and hung around (later worked) at the shop where my mom worked. A soap cap is your usual formula of color & developer plus the same amount of shampoo, apply, let sit a few minutes then wet, work up some suds, rinse & condition. Problem is, every time you use developer, you attack the cuticle. The filler, deposit-only stuff, coats the hair shaft, so it acts less damaged.

| I tried using a non-color henna a few times (all natural product from Egypt). It gave my lightweight, fly-away hair some body and weight, and made it smoother, too. It darkened my blond hair a bit, but I'm a dark blond anyway. But, it was kind of messy - the stuff would sort of jell as it sat for a few minutes while I combed it through my wet hair. It rinsed off the hair okay, but it was tough to get the splatters off the wall and floor.

| The suspense is Killing me, please let me know how it turns out if ya do it!!! hint.. unless your hair is fairly light the copper won't show up much. For rich red the mahogany and red red. About 2 parts red to 1 part mahogany. Henna doesn't work like regular haircolor, if your own color is darker than the one you choose it wont show up much, it will mostley give you shine. Copper is good on light to medium brown hair to get a strawberry like effect. But for FLAMMING locks, red or mahogany, trust me on this one, I've used alot of it, and I love the stuff.

| So, ladies in the know, is there value in neutral henna as a conditioner over other types of conditioners? Will an appropriate henna color cover gray? --although I'm not actually sure I want to, but inquiring minds want to know.:hot:

| Bren, I don't know the answer to your questions, but I expect it would. My own experience with Henna is rather humorous: I had just graduated from college and a gf and I were having a "girly" day -- painting our nails, deep conditioning our hair, etc. She had henna and I questioned her about it because I didn't want to color my hair. She assured me that it was neutral. So, about an hour later, we washed our hair... I ended up being a redhead! She had mistakenly picked up one of the red shades! My hair was dark blonde then, so what really happened was that it changed all of my highlights from gold to red. It really only showed up in the sunlight. A few days later, I was out walking in the woods with another gf (who was a natural light redhead -- gorgeous color!) and we walked into an area of bright sunlight. She stopped and stared at me and said, "Sharron! Your hair matches mine!" :gorgeous: It sure did! ![]() Kinda funny... after that my hair started darkening and my highlights have always been rather reddish since! Now, I periodically henna my hair, but always neutral. I actually have some brown henna sitting in the drawer, but haven't gotten around to it :square: Last edited by Sharron Long; 06-16-2004 at 11:24 AM. |

| I absolutely love the look of red hair, I'm blonde and have done red several times, but being fickle, I always go back, and it's soooo hard to go from red to blonde. BC, Neutral Henna will give your hair alot of shine, and make it feel "thicker" but wet it won't feel any different. Also if you are more then 10% grey you shouldnt use anything other than neutral,.. unless you color the grey THEN put the henna on.
