Wink WHERE (and what) have YOU been eating?

:cook: Some friends invited me to check out a Greek restaurant with them. I checked it out online before we went. Dummies! It is Lebanese, not Greek!

Anyway, we went to this place and I thought we were going to have to sit cross-legged on the floor, but we didn't. You kinda sit on the floor and your feet hang down underneath. So the waitress had to kneel to serve us. Great music and atmosphere complete with bellydancers! :bellydanc

There was an extensive menu to choose from and our waitress helped us out with the ingredients. Here's what I had: a Cosmopolitan made with Grey Goose
water
a taste of hummus, a taste of something made with eggplant, a taste of mint dip, and a taste of something in a grape leaf. I did this tasting with tiny bites of pita bread. Maybe a fifth of a pita bread total. some salad w/lemon garlic dressing
6-spiced shrimp on a shish-kabob
a few peices of zucchini, steamed

I was kind of worried because I thought the food might have been full of salt and I had that 1 drink, and I had some pita bread. But, I got up this morning down a pound, so no harm done!

I didn't try the hookah pipe, but some people did. I think it's fruit oils and honey and you inhale the steam. (Or something like that!)

Now, tell me where YOU have ventured to eat lately. Someplace out of the ordinary for you. What did you order and how was it? Are some country's foods more low carb friendly than others? I'm just curious, so I can choose to "opt out" or not on our next foreign cuisine adventure.

The salad and shrimp were okay, but this is definitely NOT my kind of cuisine. I told hubby I was moving to Lebanon for a few months so I could lose weight quicker! The service was great and the experience was cool, but I won't be feasting on anything Lebanese again anytime soon!

Well, we ate at the Kings Head tonight. Kings Head is a Scottish pub and quite a hangout; but it has a very electic menu*.

Dave had their exquisite fish and chips (I'm not joking - it is exquisite!). I had a small salad and Henry's Mixed Grill - a piece of steak, a lamb chop, a banger, liver, bacon, and egg, with fried mushrooms and grilled tomato (and a wide assortment of condiments). Instead of potato, I asked for additional vegetables and got very generous servings of brocolie and cauliflower. I was ravenous (from working in the yard all day) and ate ~everything~ in sight!

I drank water and Dave had a Newcastle (ale?) on tap. The menu features several dozen UK ales, porters, stouts; as well as Lemon Zingers, and similar other frivious drinks. I think they are also known for a very wide selection of Scotch whiskies.

We ate there early, and so missed the live music. However, we did have a nice conversation with the foursome in the table next to us - we talked about our cats and the virtues of Splenda.

*A small smattering of things I remember from the menu: southwest prawn and avocado salad, steak and yorkshire pudding, bangers and mash, bridie and mash, cobb salad, Victoria avocado salad, salmon with cucumber sauce, steak and kidney pie, sausage rolls, grilled halibut, lamb stew with tatties, several types of hamburgers, and much more, etc., etc. There's also a full bar menu with things like chicken wings, fried mozzarella strips, deep fried fish fingers, and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember.

I ate yesterday at a great little restaurant in Harrisville, Michigan, called The Flour Garden. The owner is on Atkins, so the menu has lots of LC-friendly choices (there's also a little gourmet shop with it that's got a lot of LC selections). It's a very eclectic menu; I suspect it reflects his own preferences--everything from local fish to chorizo. I had chicken salad and tea (tea is so much fun there; they have a BIG cupboard full of different flavors and brands to choose from).

Hmmm, well I guess I'd have to say a Japanese sushi bar - I had a spicy tuna handroll without rice, miso soup, a small green salad, edamame, an order of maguro sashimi and an order of unagi sashimi - not a speck of rice! Unless you count the sake (rice wine) - the meal was very very carb-friendly!

Ross' Home Cooking, in Austin.... we went there about two weeks ago, people have been telling us they are a good steak place, so we decided to go check it out - fairly close to our house. They have music outside in the evenings.
The menu had steaks, chicken, burgers....12oz rib eye steak was 11.95 .... I couldn't believe the price - came with salad bar and choice of potato, and texas toast..... I let the man at the counter know I didn't want the potato... he asked if I was lcing and I said yes, he asked if I would like come steamed broccoli instead and I said yes of course he mentioned that a lot of people are eating there and doing the lc diets, so he decided to make sure there was another veggie for them.... (how nice).... and no toast.
with iced tea the total for the two of us was like 28.00
Salad bar was chocked with letuce, tomato, olives, cukes, peppers, onions, different dressings, and other things (can't remember now). We had our salad and out came our steaks. Served on a large platter, my steak was on one side of it and the broccoli was covering the other side.... a lot of broccoli, more than I could eat, and it was the tips, no stalks at all.... (I don't like the chewey stalks myself), It was steamed properly and the med. rare steak was perfect. The owner came by when we were just about done, asked if we were happy, and then told us that they cut their own steaks there.... boy were they good.... tender, juicy, etc.... we will definately go back there.
After dinner we went out side to the patio to listen to the music, and lo and behold we knew the band.....so we stayed till they were done (mostly folk/country music... listening not dancing.)
was wonderfulllll
:great:

Smile Re: WHERE (not what) have YOU been eating?

I was given a gift certificate ($100!!!) to a very fancy new french/fusion restaurant out here in the 'burbs by an aquaintance. You could have knocked me over with a feather!! I told DH we'd better hurry up and use the certificate since I didn't know if that nice of a restaurant would last long out in this neck of the woods, LOL! I've give you all a full report when we go.

Send up a few prayers for me, though, that I don't knock the wine over, spill sauce on my front, or use entirely the wrong silverware. I'm not used to "fancy" any more!

LOL, Bren!! I wouldn't worry about it - judging from what I see at some of the "fancy" restaurants around here - no one ELSE has a clue any more either!!

Just go and enjoy. And report back!!
