Hi everyone!

My name is Sharon and I've been low-carbing since 2001. I originally started low carb after a blood test that indicated high triglycerides and borderline blood sugar. Six months later I was thrilled when my triglycerides came back normal and so did my blood sugar. My cholesterol levels also improved. In addition to that, my hair was no longer thinning from my low fat diet, my muscles were better defined, my skin was clear, my moods were improved, my periods were regular, I was at my ideal weight, and I no longer felt like napping in the afternoon.

When I first started, I read a ton of books describing all the different low carb plans. Because I suspected I had issues with candida, I originally followed a very strict low carb diet and used some additional supplements. I eventually added back fruits, dairy products, and coffee and stayed at a healthy weight and felt terrific.

A couple years ago, I started to let things slide a little bit. I started to have a little bread with dinner when I would dine out and I started drinking a beer now and then. I also started drinking a lot of coffee. I gained a little weight back(not a lot), but I started to have neurological symptoms - brain fog, vision issues, depression, and some small motor problems.

It turns out I have sensitivities to gluten, dairy, sugar, caffeine and many chemicals, so I need to be even more strict than I was in the past - pretty much a paleo diet. I decided to join lowcarbeating because I remembered it as one of the BEST resources on the net for information and support and recipe ideas. I was a lurker way back in 2001 and I always knew I could come here when I needed a little inspiration or motivation.

The toughest times for me on this WOE - when someone invites me to their home for dinner, or I go out to dinner with someone for the first time, or when one of my clients brings me home made treats.

Hoping to get to know everyone a little better and wishing everyone success with their WOE.:hibye:

Sharon

Hi,

I am RiaKat, just turned 46 and have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I am here because I know LC works! That said, I also know that I fully participate in self sabotage....and I do not know how to stop this.

As I said, I know LC works because at one time I was a success story and felt on top of the world. I have absolutely no true idea, other than plain laziness, as to how I've come back to the starting point ... again. This time, however, there are serious health issues involved. I want so much more .... than hating myself, my body, bursting into tears in dressing-rooms.... I avoid the mirror on a daily basis or rather, I only LOOK above the shoulders. I no longer want this!!!

So, I am back on this journey and I would like some friends that know and understand where I am, where I am going.....and hopefully to share in the successes of each small victory and celebrate the big ones. The last journey was a lonely one...I do not wish to be alone on this one. So, please join me......
I have alot of history with my weight, as I am sure we all do. I was in a very mentally abusive marriage, all centered around me looking like a 10 at all times....not to gain a pound, cut my hair, etc....If I did my life was hell. My ex would tie food on a string and dangle it over my face when I would work out....(I weighed 128 at my heaviest back then) he would hide food that I was "not supposed" to eat....When I was pregnant he never kissed or "loved" me because he said I was "fat" and he was not attracted to me....So you get a little bit of the idea....
Now...(almost 8 years post-divorce) I have the most wonderful man in my life (engaged Nov 2008) that I have been with for almost 6 years....he does not care about my size! But I do! I am 185 and only 5'4" and just over it! I will exercise my butt off, I will live the low carb lifestyle, I am just looking for someone to share this journey with so we can encourage each other....
I am a full time student (Nursing) but I CAN make the time I have NO excuses that are bigger than my desire to be healthy and happy and to be a great example to my son.
If you are interested in a friend to share this journey with, please contact me! I love and live life to the fullest but I know that with 55 pounds off, I will feel like a whole new person! I WANT that feeling!

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to see where to begin. I've been asking doctors for the longest about the following:: feeling like eating after eating already, feeling tired, light-headed, fatigued etc until I eat something, feeling like crap after eating and wanting to eat all day even if I'm not hungry. A lot of times, if I start off with a breakfast like an egg sandwich, then the rest of the day is just a wash. When I start off with veggies or a protein other than pork (I'm Jewish) then I tend to do better.

I've been battling with voracious eating for a while and the doctors just didn't and still don't get it. My Weight Watchers leader talked about how a high carb diet used to do her in. When she mentioned her symptoms, I was like WHOA that's me! So I came home and looked up Low Carb eating which was REALLY enlightening. Then I found this forum. :hail:

I need all the help I can get. I am SO SICK and TIRED of these blasted so-called doctors not knowing how to help people. They kept saying it my symptoms were because I drink too much pop. The problem with that is that I don't drink pop at all!

Any how, I'm glad I'm here.:bounce:

Just here to update everyone, and to tell everything that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I look at this pic of me posted and I would like nothing else but to update my pic! lol I look nothing like that anylonger. I have short hair, ascemetrical bob now, my hair color is platnuim. I still have the tan though....lol

So my journey of weight loss has lead me to a completely different territory. I maybe considered a traitor on this board.

I am going to have Lab-Band surgery and stop fooling and failing myself about dieting. I can lose weight without a problem, my keeping it off is the part that me nor anyone else has seemed to get a hold of. I believe that the banding system will allow me a tool to use to my advantage. It wasn't actually all that much of a "difficult decison" after seeing my neighbor lose 99 pounds since Feb 1st, 2009. I have my consultation with the surgeon yesterday, it was like the final count down began.......ticking....ticking......I got "giddy" and then "nervous" and then thought...."What am I doing?" As I began to tell people here and there that I have been working through the red tape and etc to get this one appointment, I have to say that everyone in general has been supportive and understanding. My goal is 88 pounds, but more than that, I want to be at a healthy weight.

PLEASE don't let this discourage anyone about Atkins or low carb. Without that program I would be much more than 90 pounds ( per dr's fitness scale) overweight. Atkins was amazing to me, I felt free at times, and although I can say that I never got to the point of achievement that I utilized the program as a life change, the changes it gave me even if they were just short term was wonderful.
Silly part of the new "diet regimne" for "after" surgery is quite similar to low carb.

I think that we all know by now, if you've been at this board for 2 days or years like me, that WHITE sugar, flour, and anything that isn't a complex carb is BAD NEWS!! It's junk and we are simply poisioning our bodys but eating the boxed, processed...darn I am going to say it.....?! JUNK!
One of the things that always stuck with me that the late great Dr. Atkins said was.
"The only way to break an addiction, is to obstain."
Wish me well, and I plan to still stick around!!!
Chow for Now!!! :hibye:

Hi All - I'm close to one year with LCE. Time Flies. I'm maintaining my initial weight loss and eating healthy and keeping my Blood Sugar normal. I'm able to add portions of food I cut out and still keep off meds. I'm baking Kale chips for a snack alternative to a little popcorn now and then. I can have 1/4 cup of Breyers ice cream if I've had no other carbs - but don't do it that often. I have to stay off potato of any size, kind or shape. Lots of family stuff making me depressed but I tend to not eat enough now instead of eating too much. I'm still here (smile) Hope everyone is doing well. I've been averaging under 30 carbs a day ... most days but don't track it as compulsively as I used to ... pretty much know what I can and can't eat. I started Facebook with encouragement of my brother's wives and having fun finding friends from grade school and such - relatives - etc.

I don't know how many of you would remember me, as it's been over 2 years since I was active in this forum. To update, I met someone, we moved to North Carolina in 2007, and I started losing what made me who I was. I was becoming half of a couple, and completely forgot how to be an individual. Well about a month ago, I decided I needed to find myself, so I have moved back to Ohio, I'm going back to finish my Chemical Engineering degree, I found a job that makes me happy, and for the last piece of the puzzle... my weight... well I am going back to what I know works and makes me fell good... so as of monday 10/12/2009... I am actively doing Atkins Nutritional Approach.

I am actually still smoking, which I had vowed years ago to quit, but that success has eluded me, just like my weight has in the past. So I am actually going to focus on Atkins, quitting smoking, and making daily exercise about the health aspects, and not about the "other" reasons in life to do things. I'm doing it for myself this time. I'm doing everything for me this time!

Well I will begin induction on monday, because tomorrow I will be hitting the grocery store for the Induction basics. I don't plan on having some huge carb splurge tonight or tomorrow.. it just seems counterproductive, not to mention it makes the first three days of induction even harder. I won't be using Ketosis strips this time, but I will be supplementing my protein intake with protein powder, as I typically find it hard to eat enough.

I would really like my mom to try Atkins, but we will see when I talk to her this evening, as she's a total carb-aholic! But I know that she is really unhappy being over 200 pounds, and she needs a change. She's super-active, but she's absolutely exhausted when she gets home every evening... and I really think that LCE would really help with both her energy and her weight. I want her to be happy... and I know both those things changing would make her happy.

So I am off to make the grocery list, and create a plan of attack to talk to my mom this evening about joining me. I figure I'm going to try the "just try it for 14 days"... if you hate it, you can quit... but just give me 14 days." I figure when her energy jumps and she sees the numbers changing for the better on the scale... that she'll want to keep going.

It has been hard to have enough protien cooked. We are cooking out today. I have found it a bit harder than he has.. I have a bigger appititte than he does. Though he does eat later in the evening than I do.
WE have been on it for 5 days.. And guess what he has already lost 5 pounds.
