Yes definitly take it slow. Induction can take a little out of you. I didn't actually start a program til after the first week, Well after my fall of the wagon, I am happy to announce that I am back on track and back down to 183, with a renewed determination, similar to the induction period.

Terese: Have you ever tried Dreamfield pasta? It's pretty good. I don't eat it very often but we do have it sometimes as it's DH's absolute favourite. A 2 ounce portion isn't much pasta, Dreamfields has 5 net carbs for that serving, about 1/2 cup uncooked. The pasta can cause some problems for diabetics but for anyone low carbing for weight loss it's supposed to be pretty good, in moderation. When we have pasta I bulk it up with lots of veggies so it seem like we are eating a lot more than we actually are. I measure out two servings of macaroni and cook it. Then add grated cheddar cheese, a little heavy cream, a lot of lightly steamed broccoli and canned tuna. I mix it all together and bake it in a casserole til brown and bubbly. Our serving seems pretty big and filling but there is not a lot of pasta and it does give that happy feeling of having something you love. Or you can make pasta salad with all kinds of low carb veggies chopped up in it along with shrimp or chopped cooked chicken and a little cheese. You can dress it with any italian style dressing or a combo of mayo and mustard. Last Sunday I made fettuccini alfredo for company. It was heavenly. We had small portions of the pasta and had chicken breast and broccoli on the side to fill out the plate. The Dreamfield pasta doesn't leave you with that over full drowsy feeling that regular pasta does. It's an option that you might want to consider to hedge bets of not falling off the wagon when summer barbecue season comes and everyone starts showing up with pasta salads and you start nibbling "just a taste"! Often this pasta can be found in supermarkets or it's pretty easy to find online, that's how I get mine. My family loves it so much that they all order it now and prefer it to regular pasta. We normally have it only every 3 - 4 weeks, just when DH really starts to miss pasta and I see the gleam in his eye that he's going to have a taste next time he's around someone else's regular pasta! LOL Yes, we are all carbaholics, but when we have a low carb substitute for an old high carb favourite I think of it as being like the alcoholic who goes into a bar and has soda water. The difference between us and the alcoholic is that we LIVE in the bar! You can't escape being around bad food as easy as being around alcohol and unlike alcohol, we have to eat to live as long as we live.

I did a store locator search and found it is sold in my area. Netrition has it for 2.49 a box. I guess if we like it, i get buy it on line too.
we love casseroles and other pasta dishes... i do miss them... so i'll give them a try.

your cheddar, tuna and broccoli sounds right up my alley.

Try Dreamfields pasta. It has 5 carbs. They make it in various forms. You can find it in the pasta aisle.

I wish I could get in my pasta aisles. Rural NW PA is sometimes a bit behind the times. I did find a grocery store with a gluten free section, and some of them are low carb.

I'm constantly amazed with the lack of low carb choices in mainstream grocery stores considering the epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes everyone has their knickers in a twist about. The solution seems to be relatively simple, make more low carb food available and more people will buy it. I find there is very little support in the health community for carbohydrate restriction and the failed low fat/low calorie myth is still being perpetuated. My doctor, who is amazed at our success controlling diabetes by diet alone, has absolutely no concept of what level of commitment it takes or what low carbing really means. She, like a lot of other people, thinks it just means avoiding sugar and cutting down on baked goods and potatoes. I've been trying to get a perscription for pendase from her for the times we eat at other people's homes or restaurants but no dice. She thinks our control is good enough that we don't need anything else. Pendase can prevent the digestion of 20 - 30 grams carbs from starch (not sugars) when taken at the beginning of a meal and it would make a big difference to us when we need it. Oh well. One note on dreamfields, we do find that over the period of about up to 12 hours it does raise our blood sugars. although it's a very slow climb, so I think more than 5 grams of carbs are accessible. It makes a difference to us but for someone trying to lose or control weight it is still a good option from time to time.

For me... Pasta And rice were always a huge staple in my house... Along with homemade spetzles, but this time i know how dedicated I really am. We went to my grandmothers for dinner, she made my absolute favorite meAl of chicken paprikash and spetzles... And I had baked chicken and veggies while everyone else was having that high carb meal. I knew right then that I was low carb for good. Someday I might be in maintenance and have a spoonful, but I won't completely blow it!

I made paprikash awhile back, was able to make it LC, or at least lower carb. Made noodles for the rest, and made LC noodles for me. I posted the recipe for the LC pasta in the cooking forum. Many times you can have your cake and eat it too. Getting past that 199 is a great milestone, Keep up the good work.

All of you sound like you are doing so good! I feel like I am cheating when I tell you what I use. don't want to say the name (not sure I can) but it one of the cookie diets. low in net carbs so I stay in ketosis. I simply couldn't do without them!

sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

but i have found i had to give up most, if not all of my 'addictions' ... though i did find this great LC chocolate bar at wallyworld [i bought all they had left] at a buckAbar.

I know eons ago, there was a company -- and i'm totally drawing a blank on the name -- but they advertized here ... they sold a cookie mix, it was pretty much almond flower ... but they were like snicker doodles. I ate those all the time. But this time around --- i'm off most if not all desserts.

BUT -- all that being said, one of the keys to this WOE is breaking bad habits, and not finding substitutions for said bad habits... at least until one is closer to goal.

    THerese....
The snickerdoodles wouldn't do it for me, I'm a chocolate chip girl. I have thought about trying to make them LC, but the risk just doesn't seem worth losing the reward of weightloss... which is what I really want (a lot more than a coookie for sure)... so for now, while I still have a decent amount to lose, I will skip the cookies and go with my meat and veggies. Here's to passing up the cookies for the next 48.8 lbs!

yanno Megan... you are right.. those little treats... they are usually not worth it. not worth the possible slow up in the loss department. I can't even recall the last time i had a cookie. [well - maybe if i think really hard] but you know what i mean.

I find we NEED to break our addictions..and that is what LC does - help us break our bad addictions. and get back healthy and eating clean.

carb-a-holic here too! one thing i found is one of the cookie diet cookies. they are low enough in carbs that i can eat them without going out of ketosis. i think having them occasionally makes me not crave carbs and helps me stay low carb easier. look at my profile to get the name of them. i don't want to get fussed at for promoting a product!
