Default My no-binge weekend challenge - July 2004

I've decided to do this for myself but of course, anyone else can join if they like...it seems like I do good during the week, and then on the weekend, I just tend to binge...haven't yet followed the pastor's advice of not binging on the weekend but this weekend, I've made a decision to follow it...perhaps, my binging is one reason I just can never get underneath the weight I am now. I keep on gaining and losing the same 4 lbs...so I'll make this a challenge to myself...a no-binge weekend! Even though I only weigh once a week, I will see where I am Friday morning ('cuz Friday night is usually when the bingeing starts)...and then I'll see where I am Monday morning. It'll also just be interesting to see what the scale says Monday...I don't care if I lose weight or not...it would be nice...I'd rather just be able to maintain over the w/e rather than have to re-lose 4 lbs - again...I'll let everyone know how I did once the weekend is over...I'm off to a good start today and want it to continue over the weekend and past the weekend...and I know if I can do it this weekend, then I can do it the next...and the next...and the next...and it will just become a habit to eat the same way on the w/e as I do daily.

I'll join you this weekend, I too have the same problem, weekends are my downfall.... I can do great during the week, but when the weekend comes, out I go for something I shouldn't eat.... I know I can do it, i have done it in the past....here we go on to the weekend.

Thanks for joining me! Even when I go to restaurants and they cater to low carbers, I seem to still lose my willpower and eat the higher starch foods. But not this w/e...for example, if we go to Subway this w/e, I will have one of their salads - like the chicken and spinach salad - which I have yet to try -or if we do something like Denny's - a veggie omelet or something similar - they do have a Carb Watcher's Menu so would probably get something off that. Just knowing that places are starting to cater to lc'ers should help me stay on track...but it just seems many times, I give in...but not this weekend! I am actually looking forward to my no-binge weekend!

PS I see that you are from Texas...what part? I am from Denton, TX - grew up there but have been here since January of 1996.

Hello, fellow Texans! I live in South Arlington, so not too far from Denton.

Anyway, I'll join you in this Challenge. I really don't "binge" per se, on the weekends, I just think they are just so UNSTRUCTURED compared to the workweek. Monday through Friday, I know I am going to drink a bottle of water on the way to work, have breakfast, a Diet Coke, a snack, some more water, lunch, etc. And all of this at certain times of the day.
On the weekends, I get up at different times, cook more, eat out more, go outside the house more, but exercise less. Even if my walking buddy and I walk, I am still missing the physical activity from my job. There are not those "certain times", so I know I'm not drinking enough water, either.

I just have to be more vigilant about watching what I eat (July 1 I started a food journal), drinking enough water, and increasing my physical activity. Here's to No Cheat Weekends!

From another Texan at heart - good luck at this challenge ya'll!

I lived in Houston and Austin for about 30 years total, and Louisiana before that. Loved it. Been in Colorado since 1998 after dh got transferred. I really like it here as well, but miss my family terribly, especially after having a child.

Good challenge idea Sheyla! I've been going to my sister's on Sundays for years. It's either football or cookouts. Last football season I opted out of the football midseason because I just ate low carb snacks constantly. Things like cream cheese and sausage dip. But by the end of the day I had eaten 3000 calories worth of these snacks and low carb beers (Can't watch football without a beer).
Well the same thing has been happening with our cookouts. But worse than football, I've grabbed the taco chips and munched half a bag two Sundays in the past 4 weeks. So I'll join this challenge and be good this weekend too. This will probably mean skipping the cookout but maybe I'll go for a hike in the mountains instead.

It's nice to know that I am not alone in being a weekday warrior and then a binger on the weekends. Guess I thought I was the only one.

Fridays are usually the start of my binge. Weighed myself this morning to see where I was - 126 lbs - which is no surprise - I tend to fluctuate between 122 and 127 right now...ate breakfast kinda fast this morning - just an egg and an ounce of cheese. Was running behind 'cuz dh stopped me and scolded me a little for not saying bye to him before I headed to the gym this morning. Oops. Got to work and had 2 slices of bacon and passed up the donuts that are brought in every Friday. Sometimes, I give in and have one. Not today! So I'm starting out good...it's a matter of tomorrow and Sunday. DH is joining me on this no-binge weekend challenge as well...usually, we'll have a BBQ on Saturdays and to go along with the burgers - onion buns, potato salad, potato chips, beans, dessert...and then I give in, too. But not this weekend. I'll eat the hamburger on lc bread...or maybe I'll convince the dh to buy some chicken breast...have something different for once. So we'll see! I already have it in my plans for lunch today to have a cup of coleslaw - made with oil, vinegar and no sugar and a hamburger patty on a slice of lc bread w/ 1 oz Swiss Cheese and 1 slice onion...so I'm off to a good start thus far...and it's going to keep going right through the weekend.

Good luck to everyone over the weekend...and I hope to hear SUCCESS stories on Monday!

Sheyla, sounds like you have this bbq planned, why not make a veggie tray to munch on, I noticed the cole slaw, you could have a regular salad, spinach with bacon and mushrooms salad, cooked veggies instead of the beans and potato salad.... and look for a good lc desert - sf jello make a parfit with whipped cream, jello and fruit.... that might be a good one for everyone,...mmmm maybe I'll make that too....

Not sure what we are doing this weekend, going out for dinner tonite, and will hopefully be able to eat on plan ( am good about asking for what I want at
a restaurant.), but that is just tonite,....

Rob, glad to see you joining us, I know about going to someone's house on weekends, and blowing your good intentions, might be good idea to stay home this week and see how you do.... maybe go over after dinner for a visit.

will check in tomorrow and see how everyone is doing.

Great idea on the veggie tray! I asked the dh to pick me up some spinach today, too - I'd rather have that than lettuce - more filling and better. As far as the coleslaw is concerned, I'm having that at work today. The special in our cafeteria is fish/chicken baskets with fries and coleslaw - and since the lady who makes it is doing Atkins - she makes it without sugar so those of us watching our carbs can have it, and it's good. So I figured that would be better than the whole meal...

My dh and I usually bbq on Saturdays - just for him and me. Like your ideas. I was considering trying to make the no bake creamy lemon cheesecake over the w/e but the dh has his reserves about eating dessert this w/e. As long as you eat one slice and no more in a day, I don't think you could go wrong with a dessert...or maybe I'll just opt for the sf jello w/ whipped cream. We'll see how it goes...

Count me in. Hope I don't have any fessing up to do come Monday morning.

Someone check on me to make sure I'm not caving.

Stress lately is killing me and comfort is found in food lately.

I guess Friday after 5:00 is the official start to the weekend, so I can say that I've done fine so far. DH grilled me a steak, I had salad w/bacon ranch and this cheesecake filling stuff I make with cream cheese, lemon juice and Splenda. DH loves cheesedcake, and upon further investigation, I discovered it's the filling, not the crust or the cherry topping that does it for him! So, I whipped up some filling and he loves it. (Even though it's Splenda and not sweetened condensed milk in it.) So, sometimes we have it like pudding. All this was over by 7 p.m., so that's good.
I'll check in as the weekend progresses. (I'm going to try to stick to more of a workweek eating schedule.)

So far, so good for me...last night, just had a 2 egg omelet with a slice of cheese and 1/2 cup grilled onions along with 1 slice lc toast and then had 6 oz of the Carb Countdown Strawberry-Banana Yogurt. Yum! I gave in to my sweet tooth and split a lc choc bar with the dh. I find it better if I split it then eat the whole thing...'cuz usually one will send me off craving another and another but just half is enough...

So far this morning, my two hour cardio workout at the gym. I usually do 2 hours on Saturday morning 'cuz I know I'll be eating a lot more but not today. I just did two hours 'cuz my body knows I do two hours every Saturday...and why break that routine? I know it will really pay off on Monday...now am going to go back me a 2 egg omelet with some cheese and onion for breakfast...haven't yet picked up any veggies. Really want some spinach. Maybe today. We'll see.

I'll check in later today if I have a chance to see how everyone is doing.

Good luck to all once again!

We went to the Parker County Peach Festival today. I turned down peach tea, peach water, a peach julep, and had JUST a taste of homemade peach ice cream. Figured if the sugar wouldn't get me, the dairy would! I opted for a s/f limeade. I watched the lady make it; she used Splenda.

Of course, there was plenty of walking to do and although I used sunscreen on DD and I, we got plenty of sun. Vitamin D, right? We just had salad and sausage tonight. I had one small fresh peach after dinner. Mmmmm! Since we ate so early, I may have a CarbSmart Fudgecicle later. They're yummy. Meanwhile, I'm drinking iced tea and water and hoping for a new low in the morning.

    How's everyone else faring?

So far, so good...talked with the leader of our leadership/weight loss group about this...he told me that it's a constant renewing of the mind to keep eating on the weekend the same way I eat during the week...and that my mind needs to be renewed to that...so I've started to renew my mind to this is the way I eat for the rest of my life - even on the weekend....

So for today, I have done 2 hours of cardio and this has been my menu -

    Breakfast

2 eggs, 1 oz cheese, 1/3 cup onion, 1 Tbsp Half and Half

    Snack

    1 oz peanuts

    Lunch

Before lunch, went to store and they were giving out samples of Ranier Cherries so had one. And passed on the free sample of Lemon Cake. woo Hoo!

Spinach w/ 1 hard boiled egg, 1 oz Swiss cheese and 2 Tbsp Carb Options Olive Oil Vinagrette Dressing

    And for dinner tonight:

    2 slices lc bread
    hamburger patty
    1 oz Swiss Cheese
    1 thinly sliced onion
    4 dill pickle chips
Spinach w/ 2 Tbsp Olive Oil and Vinegrette Dressing
20 oz diet caffeine free Pepsi (my once a week treat to myself)

And for dessert, 6 oz Carb Countdown Strawberry Yogurt

And I've almost got 86 oz of water in as well...yea!

And I decided to stop eating right at 6 PM as well...

I know it dosn't show a lot of food I've eaten today but i just haven't been all that hungry today. Think my appetite is finally suppressing itself after my binge last weekend. That's a good thing, though. Fit Day shows I've eaten around 1540 calories...so I know I've really eaten enough.

I know I shouldn't have done it...but I just had to see how I was doing with not overindulging last night so got on the scale this morning...from 126 down to 124.4...that's enough to convince me not to binge this weekend or the next or the next! No weigh in till Monday now...

Hope everyone else is doing great! Until tomorrow...
