    Default Journey to Success

Decided I needed to start a journal. I am not new to LC but have just recently started over again after regaining most of the weight I had lost the past 4 years. I never had a weight problem until the past 10 years. Guess that's what happens as we age. Anyway, this is a lifestyle change for me, I will win this battle and I will maintain when I reach my goal. It's going to be a stuggle for a while but am determined to keep on track. I started this battle at 170 lbs, currently at 149 and my goal currently is 120 although I would prefer to be about 110. I am addicted to carbs, once I get started I just can't stop.

I am not one who can bounce on and off LC. I can have a cheat day once in a while but if I go more then a couple of days then I'm doomed to fail. So even on vacation I must maintain. It has taken me over a year now to get started again and I'm off to a good start, currently have lost 13 lbs since July 21st when I first started induction again. I don't have a lot of support outside of this forum. Seems everyone just wants me to feed me reguardless of the consequences. Although I think my boyfriend is starting to view LC a little differently. Hopefully I can make a believer out of him.

So here's to me and my renewed and on going commitment to the LC lifestyle.

i think most sceptics come around with time. and if they don't, once you're there, you probably don't care that much anyway.

congrats on your decision to take control of your own weight and find a place you're comfortable. we'll be here rooting for you!!

It's always good to see a new journal, Nicola.

Each time I eat too many carbs, it takes a few days to get back to eating right for me. Once I do, then it's really pretty smooth sailing, until I get complacent and think I can add more things I shouldn't.

You're not alone in this. Many of us have carb monsters lurking inside! It's a hard one to tame, but with determination, we can all do it.

    Thanks Rita and Goddess,

I know we are all in this together, this carb addition is in all of us or we wouldn't be here. I guess it's all in how you deal with it. I know if I were to choose to eat high carbs for a day then it will take me 3 or 4 to recover. Maybe more because the temtation is so hard to overcome. I try hard to remember that and to remind myself how very long it took me to just have the will power to start over. It definately makes me think twice.

    Thankyou both for your support!

Opps! Haven't been here in a week or so, I need to get better at this. I need to take some time and look for some more LC cooking ideas. Just need to try some new things. Think maybe if I mix things up some more I can get this weight loss moving again. More exercise would probally help me emensly, I need to try harder with that. Wonder if I'm the only one who has problems with that after a long day at work?

Nicola, when I get home after work, the last thing I want to do is exercise. It's probably the best thing for me, but I'm mentally exhausted, and I want to sit and look at my mail, watch a bit of tv, and then have to cook supper, so any housework or laundry that needs my attention, and after that, I'm ready for bed. If I could get myself out of bed earlier, I could exercise in the morning, but that bed is just way too comfortable!

Hope you have a wonderful Friday, and an even better weekend.

Nita, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, some days I am on my feet all day at work and then I'm just too exhausted physically and then other days I feel like they fried my brain and then I'm too mentally exhausted. So getting enough exercise is a constant struggle for me.

Hope you have a great weekend also.

Well this is a big opps, haven't been here in too long. This month has just been miserable for me, it's too hot and I'm too tired. But that's OK, I'm getting through it. Then hopefully it's the start of cool weather here. I had a bad day this morning. I wanted a dounut so, so bad. I had to take a different route to work, because I knew if I took my normal one I would have stopped and gotten one or who knows probably more. And lucky for me no one brought in any. Usually on Sat. someone does. I've been fighting these cravings all month. Don't know what's up with that but it's been torture. Hopefully things will improve.

The old carb monster is still trying to attack you, eh?

I've had times when I wanted something so bad that I knew I would buy it if I went near the store. I've even avoided entire aisles at the grocery store to keep away from a food that I'm craving. One thing that helps is to tell myself that I am worth good health, that whatever the junk is that I'm craving, I don't need it, I need my health much more.

As much as I love donuts, right now you wouldn't get me near one. One leads to 2, then 3, then a Hershey bar, then a milkshake, then a cookie, etc. Nope, not gonna even go close to there!

I hope it helps you to know that others have the same problems, that we've all been there, numerous times. And we haven't always succeeded in resisting temptation, but we usually get right back on plan, quickly, to lessen the damages.

Let me know how you're doing.

Nita, Thanks for stopping by. Yes that darn carb monster is trying to get its hands around my throat, and ram those carbs in. I surely know what you mean, one thing always leads to something else and then it becomes an endless streak. That is what keeps me going. It is just too hard to get back on track. I try sometimes to avoid the grocery store all together. These days when I do go I make a list and only buy whats on it. And I try so hard not to go in the mornings when the fresh baked goods are smelling the whole place up. Yes it helps know that I am not alone and that so many people have had these problems and manage to overcome them. I know every one of us lives with this constant struggle to remain strong and in controll.

Sunday, my boyfriend came over armed with steaks, califlower and salad fixings. He is definately getting better about this LC way of eating. It is a real help to me that he is coming around. If I can keep the weekends under control the weekdays are a breeze. Speaking of which tomorrow is Friday and another weekend is under way. And then Saturday morning is donut day at work. Maybe I can take my own breakfast this week and I won't be so tempted. Yes, I think that's a plan.

Nicola, have you tried making the One Minute Muffin? It's got its own sticky in the Low Carb Cooking forum. You could make one, slice it and fill it with sweetened cream cheese, wrap it well and put it in the fridge, then take it to work on donut day, and you'll have your nice sweet legal snack. And it's a wonderful, quick breakfast, too.

Kudos to your boyfriend, bringing you such a lovely meal. A big hug to him.

Nita, No I haven't tried the one minute muffin, but it sounds yummy and I am going to take your advice and try it. Making it with cream cheese filling is right up my alley, as has always been a favorite of mine. Thankyou so much for the tip.

Yesterday was a real trip for me. Came home from work, got up on the roof to blow off leaves and such and found a spot that didn't look so great. So beings the tom boy that I am I got my repair crap out and proceeded to seal the spot. Oh what a mess I can make. It was hot up there and I managed to get the yuki stuff all over me. So if that wasn't enough I decided to mow the grass afterwards. Don't know what is wrong with me. I come home from early on Fridays and end up working way harder here at home. So now today after work here I am thinking about going outside with the chain saw and cutting down my ficus tree. I decided to get on the computer for a while and brew about that. Maybe I can talk myself into waiting until another day.

OK, off to find the One Minute Muffin reciepe.

You're doing all the icky, yucky outdoor work in that humidity? Yikes!

Hope the rest of your week is great!

Nita, If I don't it won't get done. I just can't seem to bring myself to pay someone to do those things, would rather have the money to spend on other things. At least this Friday I will be free to shop or whatever when I get off early.

Thanks for stopping by, hope your week is a great one also!

I hear you on saving money these days. I'm more than willing to pay someone to do housework for me, though. I really like my son's wife to do it, but they live 50 miles away, and it's not worth it for her gas to come down to do my cleaning. I'd really like for her to come and do a big cleaning for me soon.

Enjoy your shopping trip, if you do that. Or whatever "me" time you have, do something special.
