Happy April Fool's Day!
Now I've revisited the March thread, and will catch up.
Judy, those pictures tell the soggy story. We often see huge trees toppling in KC--one came down on the grounds of the university nearby only a couple of weeks ago--luckily with no harm done.
Susie, I'm sorry about Ozzie. You'll do everything you can to make him comfortable, I know.
Heather, you manage so well with the resources you have. It is distressing when people are rude and thoughtless. There's no reason for it, and it just makes life harder for everybody.
I have Bible study group this morning, and later, an appt at the beauty shop to have my eyebrows waxed. I used to scoff at the idea, and now I'm hooked.
to everyone. I'll be back later. I'm still a woman in search of a life, and every day is precious.
Hear me talk!
Morning gang! It's April and this is the month that I hear if we get the approval to build our own HUD House in June.
Today I don't have to babysit and the kids will be at school. My plans are to pick up the house (since I did major cleaning yesterday), exercise and then pamper myself before picking everyone up from school and work.
Barb - I pluck my own to save some $$ but wouldn't give up the extra minutes of pain to have them grow back. I think it just opens up the eyes.
Thanks for starting us off in April, Barb![]()
Can you believe there's SN*W in the air again today. Ya just gotta laugh. The house is way too quiet, fur girls having gone to the groomer this afternoon. Khaki was just shaking like a leaf--change from her routine is difficult as she gets older. Well, I know what that's like.
Taxes done! Now a last review and e-file. I thought we'd come out about even, but it looks like we'll get some back
Bert a note to you with big hugs. I wish you and dh well on your journey home, and certainly I wish your dh a recovery from his infection.
Peg, hope you're rested up after the helpful visit of dh's dd, and aren't wearing yourself out. Good to hear you're attending your groups and getting out of the house a bit.
Heather, crossing fingers for your acceptance! Hope the good news will come soon, too.
Waves to everyone else.
Tonight I'm going to a sit n' knit. A gal at my little branch library is starting a group there, and since it's only 3 blocks away, hey I'll check it out. Believe it or not, I don't have any nearby knitting buds.

Hi guys,
Sticking my head in the door to say hey!
I thought of you all often over the weekend!
per my journal entry today: sorry I need to move on and get some chores done. Hopefully, I can have coffee with you all in the morning!
I can't believe my BFF weekend is over!!! I took her to the airport about 1230 for her flight back to Denver. We are already *plotting* our next visit...LOL!
We had a blast, just like we always do. We *shopped til we dropped and still didn't stop* all day for 2 days. The first day she arrived, we just came home and hung out for awhile. Then we went to our favorite little Mexican cafe and had *maritas*...along with the *whole enchilda* yipee!!! Came back home and yakked until the wee hours. Then Sunday, we shopped from about noon until 5 or 6PM, then came home and my DH took us out to dinner at a really cool place my other gal pals know aboutand yeppers...we had dessert...a very decadent piece of lemon drop cheesecake...oh my!(Thank goodness we shared...it was HUGE!)
Sunday night BFF got a proper good old dose of *tornado alley*. We were having severe T-storms, and one supercell went tornadic around 0100 in the morning and we were awaken by the tornado sirens going off. Thankfully though, the tornado touched down on the extreme NE part of the metro area, probably about 30 miles north of us. Aggrevating that OUR sirens sounded and scared the bejeebers out of us, but you don't ignore tornado sirens in OOOOklahoma, so we were up until the second wave of storms and high winds blew on out of the area, around 0230...we were both crossed-eyed and yawning! LOL!
Yesterday, again we hit the shopping trail early and made several BIG *scores*!!! LOL!!! BFF scored at my favorite jewerly store(a mandarin tourmeline) and I scored on some spring/summer shirts and capris. We tried really hard to buy some shoes, but just didn't *feel the love* for any of the spring arrivals. Now you have to know us...that's a pretty sad situation when one of us can't find a pair of shoes to buy! har!!!
Then, last night, we went to another excellent Italian restaurant and had a lovely dinner, a little wine, and of course split another dessert! Well, that's what BFFs are for, right???...yanno...help to ease the guilt of dessert....and help a friend in need so the jeans don't get to tight???...right???? LOL!
This morning went by toooooo fast, and before we knew it, was time to leave for the airport. Bff tried to get Kassie to jump in her bag and go home with her, but my little girl decided to stay home with mama!
I will dine on leftover Italian tonight(DH will do dinner on his own), then tomorrow, it's back on track, and back to the business at hand...getting to goal and staying there!!!
pic to follow....

Discussion in my journal entry tonight...
SistaShell, so glad you're back with us. I know you had a great visit, sorry it couldn't have lasted longer. Hmmm, isn't Denver close to Ft. Collins?
Thanks to all of you for your concern about little Ozzie.
He is still lying around most of the time. He has stopped playing with any of his toys, I can't remember if I mentioned that.
I'm most concerned about the congenital hip and knee problem. The doc said the arthritis will zoom in there...how well I know that. Ozzie and I are doomed to be gimpy together.
Really busy day at work, tired and want to change into my lounging clothes.
On another note, I want to mention that I've started a new challenge in the challenge forum. I've been struggling with eating and munching at night this winter, I decided I needed to really do something about it... Nothing after 7 Challenge. I'm not eating after 7:00 p.m. If you're tempted by munching too much at night, join us. See you there!
Gotta scoot, things to do. Especially since Brenda now has HER taxes done and I do NOT.![]()
Hey gang!! High of 38 degrees today. Chilly! I checked out the forecast over the next 15 days and about the 15th of this month it'll reach the 60's. Crossing my fingers it's not combined with winds so ds and I can bike ride to school.
-
Brenda - The weather has been cold and snowy here too. Can't wait to get to biking and walking weather again. / Did you have a good time at sit n' knit?
-
Shelley - Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend with BFF. Nothing like a good friend to go shopping with.
-
Susie - I'm happy to say I made it through my 1st no eating past 7pm challenge. I've been doing well until the evening. DH and I have made it a habit to sit in front of the boob tube at night and then those TV commercials call out to us.
Hi Guys!
Just got back from grocery shopping and putting it all away...ugh!
I, who am not particulary attentive to prices, have noticed that the grocery bill has increased greatly over the last few months. I mean, I pay attention to seasonal fruits etc, like strawberries, blueberries, and also meat prices, but it seems everything is starting to jump in price. Of course, our higher grocery bill could be partially related to our *extra mouth to feed*...LOL!
Oh well, whatever it takes, right??? GULP!!!
Well, let's see if I can kinda hop back in the circle here.
SistaSue...hope your infusion goes well today. Also hope you and Oz can get a good nap in this afternoon.Do you think he's any better yet on the glu-con?
Bren...so you're still *snowing and knitting*, eh??? They do go well together though, don't they? What a delightful way to pass the snowy-icky day away! Hope you get sunshine soon!
Barb...I love the brow waxing a ka-billion times more than tweezing...ouch! My BFF is about to talk me into waxing my legs.
I'm just about on board with it....
Alida...As always, your work was just fabulous! You deifinitely have an artistic touch! And, wOOt on getting started on your kitchen! You know what we want....before and after pics! LOL!
Heather...snowy up your way as well, eh? I'm soooooo with ya on wishing for better weather...I am dying on the vine to start biking again! We've been kinda chilly the last few days; had to turn the heat back on, darn it! AC one day, heat the next...makes me crazy!...(crazier, I guess!)
Judy...are you guys drying out? We got heavy rains Sunday night after the severe stuff went through. As a matter of fact, unfortunately a 2 year old got swept out of her mother's arms as the mom was trying to make it across a raging creek. The mom was afraid her mobile home in a rural area was going to flood, so she was trying to get to higher ground. They found the baby's body the next morning. Very tragic.
Bert...you and DH have certainly had a time of it, girl. Hoping everything goes off without a hitch on Saturday. Maybe one of these days we can meet in Tulsa! I go there from time to time to see my cousin. Sending healing thoughts and prayers for your hubby.
Peg...ditto..sending the same for Bob. Sounds like he is coming along pretty good. How are you holding up? I know you must be very tired. Are you taking a good multi-vitamin? I can tell by my energy level when I lay off of mine. <sigh> Hang in, sweetie!
MK...how are things? Hope all is going well with you.
Guess I'll go finish up some chores and toss up a salad for lunch.
It's a very gray and overcast day here, so I'm not sure I'm going to go walk. If the sun comes out later, then maybe.
I posted a pic of bff and Kass in my journal, but here is another.
She pranked her hubby yesterday when she got home. Told him she had bought a MC cat here in Oklahoma, and the cat accidently got shipped to Chicago and that they had to hop a flight immediately to Chicago to get the cat. He bit hook, line, and sinker! LOL! Her DH knows at some point she will probably take the plunge and get another furbaby(cat). She is still grieving the loss of her cat, but I think spending a few days with Kassie helped her a little; at least I hope. Kassie snuggled up to bff almost immediately.
OK...really...I've gotta scoot!
(((hugs to all)))

Veronica hasn't got the idea of retirement yet, so I've been up since she started stomping on my head at 4:45 this morning. By the time noon arrives, I've put in a full day. Just as before.
Shelley, what a fun time with BFF! I applaud every choice you made (especially the lemon cheesecake). One of the joys of being a low-carber is that, even when you're not, you know how to recover.
Heather, it's cold here again. Although I appreciate the sunshine, I want sunshine AND 65 degrees. I did get out for a run in the park early this morning, and soon warmed up. We'll be praying hard for the house. But if not this time, there will be a beautiful home in your future for sure.
Susie, you and Ozzie will comfort each other, I'm sure.
Today I'm in full war-paint, as I'm having my picture taken for the new church directory. It didn't take long to get used to running around in my comfy clothes and sneaks, but I do like to dress up.
I've been bringing up books from my storage bin--which means I have to spend time reading and remembering as I go. This prompts entries in my journal, and the possibility of a memoir in formation.
I thought spring would never arrive, but it looks like things are unfolding day by day. Enjoy it wherever you are!
From my journal.....
Okay....I'm back. Can't believe that it's been so long since I've posted. Just way toooo much crap going on and everyone wants a piece of me and there just isn't enough left for me to be me! Does that make sense? lol I've been so down for the last couple of weeks, but that's going to end. It's a gorgeous sunny day here with no wind so who can be miserable when it's like that.
Easter was good...I got my grandsons for the night. They got to have their easter egg hunt. Poor little Nolyn ended up sick (not from candy). Threw up everywhere including my bed! Probably too much excitement and missing his mommy, who by the way, is finally home....surgery went very well, but she has to take it easy so the skin grafts will take. She's being very spoiled by my son!
I've finally tackled and killed the night monster that makes me eat everything in sight. I refuse to eat anything after 9 p.m. The result is that I'm down 2.5 lbs. I'm still doing aerobics and the treadmill every night too. I've increased my running and speed on the treadmill. And...I'm watching very closely what I eat.
Tomorrow I go back to the eye specialist to see if my retina has been torn. Keep fingers crossed for me!!
I doubt I can post tomorrow seeing as my eye will be frozen and dialated, but I'll try to get back on Friday. I've missed everyone...thanks for holding my chair for me.

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels
Good morning, everybody. The rain has finally decided to fall in KC. Not fierce--just a good solid soaking. We needed it.
Donna, it's good to hear from you. I hope things go well with your eye examination today. That sounded like quite a serious situation.
Every old book I bring out, I want to read again. It truly is a recovery of my personal history. As often as not, a note or a photo will fall out--the kind of thing we casually use for bookmarks. Little treasures.
Speaking of treasures, perhaps today would be a good day to go up to the Nelson Museum of Art. One more thing on my list of "good retirement activities."
Hope the weather will be good in your neighborhood today.![]()
Morning gang! Sun is about ready to come up and I certainly am a sunrise person. DH said that even though I have M to babysit this morning he won't mind watching the little ones while I head to the gym for a few hours. I may take longer since I plan on weight training today. / I found a picture of a Habitat Humanity Hud home that I'm posting. Ours wouldn't have a basement but a 2 car garage which seems like a good trade in the long run to me.
-
Shelley - I know! We have a budget of about $275 for our family of 4 for food. Then I donate blood plasma 2x a week where I use 1/2 of that money for food as well just to make ends meet. The other 1/2 is for Salvation Army splurges and presents for family as things come up. It's so expensive to eat healthy on a budget but I'll buy cans after fresh before I go back to eating high carb items again.
-
Barb - Yes, I've been thinking that if we don't make the list for housing this time that we'll just have to stay on the list until we are selected. / You must be an early bird like me. I'm up with the kids and up usually well before DH is when he works at 8am. Today woke up at 4am but layed in bed relaxing until 5:30am.
-
Donna - Glad you are back!!! / Take care and hope the doctor can fix that eye right up!
Heather, what a nice house... I sure hope you get picked you deserve it you are such a wonderful manager.
Thank you Berta! DH was so nice last night and said that the house is always clean and he doesn't have to do it. When we have to work 30 hours week on the home he isn't worried that he will be overworked because he knows I'll be wanting to be there every second. Who wouldn't want to be apart of building their own home? Just think of all I'll learn. Once we get the home (if it takes 100 years so be it - lol) I'm looking forward to yard work too. That has to burn some calories and feel so wonderful seeing all the hard work turn out so pretty. How lucky is my DH that his wife doesn't want to share chores because it might ruin her figure? lol
