Two Cents New Year, New Thread -- January 2011

Here it is, a new thread to kick off a new year. We've dipped in and out, tried Facebook, and drifted around. I think most of us have drifted off our target weights. I for one need the accountability of checking in and writing it down. For the time being I propose that we try to get back to basics -- keep track of each other and keep track of what we are eating and how much we are exercising. If you don't want to do it here, let me know and I'll fire up my journal again. Let's do better in 2011!

sounds real good, while during the holiday season I did not watch my carbs as well as I should. I at least lost 2 lbs. I think that is probably a first for me.

Some things just don't change...I just lost my post. lol I'm so glad you started this Judy...I really need to be accountable to myself and everyone else. My life is just crazy since my ds moved back home. I never know when he's going to be around, plus I get my 3 grandkids every weekend and now they've moved their cat into the house which doesn't thrill my pups. I've already told dh that the stupid eating has to stop. I hate the way my clothes fit and I'm embarrassed to go out in public. I've gained by 30 of the 90 that I lost. It's stupidity for sure. I sure hope we can entice the rest of the group back...I think we all did well when we popped in here each day. Thanks again.

Donna, for the time being it looks like it is only you and me. I haven't had any response to the email that I sent out last night. I saw on FB that you now have a kitty. How is your sick pup doing? She must be better since both were in a recent picture.

OMG....just went back and found a post from January of last year. I have gained 20 freaking pounds since this time a year ago. At that time I was 5 pounds over where I want to be. That's it, yes, I'm putting it out there. I need to lose 25 pounds. Why the heck do we let this keep happening to us. About the only good thing I can say is that I am attempting to get a handle on it before I cross the line to 160. Here's today's damage. (Actually, if I can keep the calories and carbs at about this level, I will be able to make downward progress.)

    Calories: 1465
    Fat: 103 gm
    Carbs: Total 53- 14 fiber = 39 gm net
    Protein: 87 gm
    Weight: 158
Exercise: A whole lot of shopping -- the good part of this is that after two years of indecision and standoff, we finally found two chairs to go in our den.

** Virginia, feel free to join in with us if you like. We are a group of old friends that have been together at this for quite a while. You will see from the conversation that we know each other pretty well.

Ok I sure will, I am beginning to feel very comfortable here. As you see I have a while to go, but lately this seems to be the only thing that is working for me.

Good morning Judy and Virginia. Good to see both of you here. I've already lost this post once...I'll try again. Judy, I got all kinds of replys to your e-mail and it looks like everyone thinks it's a good idea. We're all in the same boat....gaining.

Just thinking about this thread made me more accountable last night. Woohoo...I dropped .2 lbs. lol If the stuffing, buns, tarts, cookies and junk food would disappear I might do ok. My life has been turned upside down since my ds moved home and I know I'm using food as an escape. I don't have a craft room anymore because that's now my son's room so I don't have any means of escape...I used to go in there for hours and just forget everything. Plus he's not exactly neat and the mess in there is driving me nuts.

Plus, we get my grandkids just about every weekend and the house gets really messy. I'm a neat freak so I spend the whole weekend cleaning and cooking and doing laundry. There is no me anymore. Sometimes it feels like the house isn't even ours! Starting Jan. 1st this has to change. If my ds could find a full time job I know he wants to get his own place. I mean, what 36 year old man wants to live with his parents? Damned economy.

Yes Judy, we now have a kitty. Didn't really have a choice. My ex dil was going to have it put down and I couldn't let that happen. She already put down 1 of the kids dogs and gave the other away. After moving them all to the reserve to live with her native boyfriend she decided she couldn't make him stop drinking anymore than the other women could so she packed them up again 2 days before Christmas and moved them back into the house she had with my ds. Problem is that there was a renter there...and he's allergic to cats. That's how I ended up with Mouser. But, he's a good cat and silly. Last night I found him sound asleep in the bathroom sink!

Lily is doing ok. She gets wheezy sometimes. I find when it's chilly in a room it makes her worse. But, she plays and eats everything in sight. If it was a person they probably would have given up by now but she doesn't know she's sick so she's not complaining. The vet had told us she only had a couple of weeks, but that was Oct. 6th so I really think he's wrong. Virginia...my dog has thyroid cancer just in case you didn't know. We're just taking it one day at a time and loving and spoiling her like crazy.

It's trying to snow today but not doing much. We actually had a green Christmas this year. Loved it. Everyone knows how much I hate to drive in snow.

Off to work now...have a great day and maybe tomorrow we'll have more of the old crowd back in here.

I do know what you are going through. Good friends of ours, were renting a house, that the guy did not keep up with his mortgage payments, and so it was going through foreclosure, so they moved in with us, and rent the back half of the house. While since I am on a disability, it has helped with the bills, it was still a hard adjustment going from 2 people and 2 dogs, to 6 people, and 4 dogs, and I felt like there was no me anymore. After ahile I just decided to keep doing the things that make me me, activities, crafts, and what not, and now Brenda, the wife tries to get involved, and even walks with me. So hopefully you will find a happy medium. Insist they help clean up, never too early for the little ones, and never to late for the older ones. I am so sorry to hear about your dog. How did you figure it out? I know our female has been putting alot of weight on, especially after having 2 litters. She seems to eat the same amount as the others, but is twice their size, and I was thinking maybe she had thyroid issues, but they didn't say anything at the vets, at her checkup, just to cut down on her food, which is almost impossible with 3 other dogs. If it's there she will eat it.

We found out Lily had thyroid cancer because of the huge lump that grew on her neck. She's really fluffy around the neck so it was hard to see until she started wheezing when she ate. The lump has forced her wind pipe to be pushed out of place. Our other dog Sora has thyroid issues and takes pills twice a day. We found out about her when she got really sick and ended up with cirrohsis of the liver (probably spelled that wrong..lol). Anyway, we just do our best for both of them and they seem happy.

I do try and make my grandkids and my son do their share of the work...but sometimes it's just easier and faster to do it myself. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.lol

Hello, Judy and Donna. And Virginia, too. I've been on the road --first chance to log in to my computer in a couple of days. I'm delighted to refresh this conversation for the new year.

I launched Atkins induction on December 1, and have negotiated the holidays successfully. Although I'd like to lose 15 lbs., I'll settle for slipping into my size 10 jeans again. Not always the same thing! Good health for the future--that's the thing.

Best wishes! See you around LCE!

Barb, It's good to have another one of the group back on board. Like you, I would like to get back in smaller jeans. Right now. I'm in 12s, but I want back in the 8s.

It's amazing what a little clean eating will do for you....... however I didn't do quite as well on restricting carbs today. Today is our 39th wedding anniversary. You can't turn down a guy's request on a day like that. He wanted chicken and dumplings, so that's what he got. I got two new chairs and an ottoman. I think it was a pretty good deal all the way around.

    Calories: 1475
    Fat: 95 gm
    Carbs: Total 73- 10 fiber = 63 gm net
    Protein: 89gm
Weight: 155 Yes, ladies, that is a three pound loss in one day!!
    Exercise: 75 minute yoga class

Ok, now that I've bragged, I'm sure that I'll see a rebound tomorrow. I need to dig out the pedometer and start tracking steps and miles again. This time last year I was trying to walk 100 miles a month..... stopping that is likely a good reason for graining.

WooHoo Judy...good for you. If I could get rid of this plantar fasciitis I would give you a run for your money in the walking department.

Short days and cold rainy weather are my biggest walking hinderances at this time of the year. I don't think I could stand to live somewhere that has snow or even shorter days. This Southern girl is going to stay southern.

Back home at last! We had a great roadtrip, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Our "last supper" on the road was at Ruby Tuesdays, where the Tuesday night special was steak and lobster. Add on the grilled asparagus and grilled green beans, and it's a feast any low-carber could love.

My sweetheart wants to drop a few lbs. with low-carb, too. So we're in it together for the new year. I'm going to get out my low-carb cookbooks and plan some actual meals. Grilled meat and green salad are great for the summer, but winter calls for fireside suppers with intriguing flavors. Of course, he'll drop 15 lbs in a flash and go back to "normal" eating. I'll drop nothing, and be a "normal low-carber" forever (as best I can!)

Happy Anniversary, Judy. Guess he's a keeper!

My cupboard is bare, so I guess I'll make a list and betake myself to the grocery store. It's good to be home.

    Best wishes, ya'll.

I made split pea soup for everyone, and mock split pea for me. Oh, the taste of the mock is soo goood, and quick and easy to make. I know I found a new lc comfort food for me.

**waving ** Love Love Love accountability threads....

I've just been so busy lately that I haven't been in here daily - like I like to be. With Christmas over... things should be slowing down.
Ole TOM is visiting -- can not wait until THAT is over with... but i'm assuming that's why the weight stagnated. The jeans I'm wearing today are just about falling off. A few weeks ago I found a pair of 12's... still too tight. Maybe i'll try them again in a few weeks.

Not exercising like I should... but with the busy week last week, i'm just starting to get back into it.
