Does Phase 2 carb block really work (on veggies?). I don't need it right now, but if I eat out and get a veggie that could be higher in carbs, in it help reduce the carb load?

Hi Dan, welcome aboard! I have never used a carb blocker, but the we've debated the effectiveness of blockers in the past. I'm happy to give that link to you. Here is a listing of topics on our forum where blockers have been discussed. Sorry I'm unable to provide more info. Make yourself at home.

**EDIT**
Sorry Dan, the link is invalid because it's a link to a search on carb blockers. To get to the same info, just enter carb blockers in the search option on the toolbar above. Sorry for the confusion.
My understanding is that carb blockers in general block starches. I am not sure if veggie carbs are considered starches.
I occasionally take a carb blocker (or two) when I am in a pinch and I dont want to knock myself out of ketosis. For example I was at an office all nighter and the company bought everyone pizza. I was hungry. So I took two carb blockers, ate one slice with the crust and two other slices toppings...
They seem to allow me to stay in ketosis, but should not be relied upon as part of your regular diet. Just a thought if you are going to have one meal with higher veggie based carbs, either plan for it by modifying othe rmeals during the day, or just dont worry about it. Sometimes fretting over the exact number of carbs we are eating gets tiresome and can make us loose our way.
Good Luck,

well...my personal experience is that sometimes, i think they can help a little when i know i'm going to make some borderline choices, but they are far from a magic bullet. they don't take the place of the work and watching your choices, but perhaps can be a supplement occassional to minimize damage. (of course, some people will say i'm totally off my rocker for this and other reasons. har!)
Dan, Goddess is right. (Even if she is off her rocker!) If you are in a situation where you might have to eat a little off plan, like at a family dinner, and your lowcarb choices are limited, it might be worth it to take a carb blocker, and then eat a little of the higher carb foods, especially if you would offend someone if you didn't eat a little of it. Of course, it doesn't work for sugar, and you wouldn't want to use the carb blocker as an excuse to pig out on high carb stuff. But for the occasional time when you have to eat off plan, they might be worth having.

I have no experience with these, but just wanted to put in my .02. I would think, IF THEY WORK, they would be okay for an occasional emergency, BUT I wouldn't want to get into the mindset that they will replace a good, solid LC lifestyle. That could get one into trouble. My feeling on the subject is IF and when you get to a point where you are close to your goal weight, you can have an occasional potato or a little pasta, etc., and it won't derail you. That's the goal anyway. On days I'm doing extra exercise, I will allow myself the occasional baked potato or a little popcorn. The problem with this tho, is it can trigger cravings. So.........tread lightly.
