Has anyone else here been plagued with horrible headaches the next morning after you've had a non-LC sweet? My lovely MIL made a crustless pumpkin cheesecake she said was Low Carb...but after I ate it she told me it wasn't sugar free, but just low sugar... anyway, I was woken up by a massive headache about 4 am this morning. The only time I've been getting headache on this LC WOE is when I don't eat often enough and my blood sugar goes down. This morning it was a killer...like the migraines I used to have. I'm just wondering if it's the sugar, the drop in blood sugar, or a combo of both.

    Oh yes.
That's how I could tell I would not be able to tolerate the Carb Countdown chocolate milk, I got the most intractable headache, and nothing, nothing would make it go away. It's probably a combination of the blood sugar spike/crash and your body's inability to metabolize sugary/starchy stuff after not having it for a while. Good incentive to stay on plan, though!

    Hey Tara,

Do you know what the 'normal' range for blood glucose is supposed to be? I test myself everyonce in a while at my grandma's house (she's type 2) at about 6 PM and my blood sugar is usually about 60. However, if I don't eat fairly quickly (within an hour) after that I get really fuzzy headed and the start of a headache...is my bg too low? I told someone it was 60 after 5 hours of fasting (I eat lunch at 12:30 or 1) and I was told that I needed to watch it b/c that was low. I know what too high is, but no idea what the low end of the spectrum is. If you could help, that'd be great.

Sneezles, 60 is on the low side. Have you discussed this with your doctor?

The main reason you need to watch your blood sugar levels is because you have a grandmother with type 2 diabetes, you have a strong predisposition for developing diabetes yourself. 5 hours is really too long to go without eating (diabetes/hypoglycemia or no) when low carbing. You should be eating at least every 3-4 waking hours.

    Brightlady,

Nope, haven't discussed it b/c I never had the problem before. My family is extremely predisposed to having type 2 diabetes. Most of my aunts are either diabetic or hypoglycemic (?). It's just getting weird b/c I can now tell when my blood sugar started geting low. the headache, but also the rushing in my ears and fuzziness of my head. If I wait too long to eat my stomach burns and cramps and I get the hiccups. as soon as I eat, I'm fine. Would I just go to my GP for this? The only doc I see on a regular basis is my gyno.

I have headaches after eating sweets, and my blood sugar drops a few hours later. I have a hard time getting it back up.. its suppose to be between a low of 60 to a high of 120... that is the low to the high..

When I did induction I was totally clean. Only water, veggies, proteins, fats. No extras. When I started adding extras like SF Jello I would get bad headaches. That's how I knew I couldn't do aspartame. I figured the headache is the body's alarm system. My job is to listen and take seriously the alarm.

Sneezles, you should talk to which ever doctor you're going to see next. My GYN was the first to pick up on my diabetes.

When I had the glucose tolerance test done years ago, on the 4th reading, my blood sugar dropped down to 51. I got really shaky feeling inside-felt like my whole body was trembling, heart beating faster, broke out in a light sweat, and felt very panicky (sp?), light dizziness, etc. He said at that time that I was hypoglycemic. It's definitely not a nice feeling! If I'm late eating, I start to feel a little shaky inside.
