    Default TX LC Elimination Diet

Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? If so, I was just wondering what you thought about it or if you found it to be a good thing to do. I was reading about it somewhere - it's where you do a 24 hour water fast, and then for 2 -3 days, you pick one food and eat lots and lots and lots of it - almost reminds of doing the egg fast...and then after those 3 days, you see where you are and whether what you ate was a feel good/lose weight food or perhaps, it was a feel lousy/gain weight food...I just thought it was interesting to read about this...I guess that could be a good way of finding out what works for someone and what doesn't...I'm not so sure I'd want to try it but just wanted to know what other people might have thought about it. One lady that did that said she couldn't eat mayonaise without it making her feel lousy...I wonder, is that all she ate during those 2 -3 days? Eeek!

I dunno...sounds kinda 'crash diet-y' and unhealthy to me. Just my opinion.

    Sheyla,

No, I haven't heard of that, though it seems really rough on the system. I'd feel sick if all I ate was mayonnaise for 3 days

If you are wanting to do an allergy elimination diet, then you can do a search on Google and find a lot of info.

I don't do it that strict though. I just pay attention to my weight and how I'm feeling each day. It was that process that has helped me to track down several allergies, (which I'm healed of now, thankfully :great: )

I think the purpose of the egg fast is similar to that of the fat fast -- and I know I for one had lost sight of that along the way. It is just a good easy way to get strongly into ketosis if you have trouble getting there, not to mention I usually drop at least 4 pounds while doing so. It is something I find best done when I'm "toxic" for whatever reason.

God_still_rules - I've never heard of this and agree it sounds really "crash" to me. I've never even done the egg or fat fast. I have been in consistent ketosis since day 1.

Sharon Long - what do you mean by "toxic"? Just curious to know if this is something I could tell from my own body. I think I need to pay more attention to what my body is telling me.

    Thanks.

    Hi guys,

I remember reading about the elimination diet years ago, and at the time, it was really stressed that this is NOT a reasonable WOE, but can be a useful diagnostic tool to use for 3-4 days MAX when you're stalled and stumped as to why.

I cannot imagine someone being hardy enough to eat nothing but mayo for three days; generally you would start with a three-day rotation on, say, chicken or beef. If you felt OK and lost on that, it went onto your list of safe foods. Then after a week or so of regular LC eating, you might try another rotation of chicken plus mayo, and that's when you might discover that mayo stalls you, makes you bloat, whatever.

It sounds VERY boring food-wise and I'd have to be really frustrated with a really long stall to try it.

    Suzanne,

What do I mean by "toxic"...

Well, I get bloated, feel sluggish, have trouble eliminating. Any or all of those, I suppose.

    Doe that help any?

Honestly, it sounds like a desperate measure born of desperation - not a WOE. For desperate times, I think a better way to go is to get back to basics:

    a) eat 90 - 100% low carb veggies and protein (avoid lc bars, lc ice creams & candy, lc bread, tortillas, fruit, etc.)
    b) reduce dense calorie foods (cheese, cream, nuts, mayo, bacon, very fatty meats, etc.)
    c) reduce or eliminate very salty foods (pork rinds, nuts, pickles, bacon, cheese, etc.)
    c) be sure to drink 1/2 oz. of water per pound you weigh each day.

Teelbee, you're absolutely right in your recommendations. I think the real purpose of the elimination diet was originally to identify foods that are LC-legal but that you're allergic to, sensitive to, or just plain stall you for some other reason.
