Thread: What is the best protein, low carb shake mix out there?

Hi all,

Just a quick question... I have been reading post after post about people enjoying low carb shakes... Now my question is, which brand is the best in your opinion?? We don't have many options here in Canada unfortunately and I am looking to purchase some low carb protein shake powder from the US. But I need to know which one to buy before I buy it, get it and find that it tastes horrible only wasting my money. Can anyone make some suggestions? I particularily love chocolate shakes.

i'd be interested in this, too. espeically the powder ones, which i've never bought because of the price/risk factor.

i have had some canned and can tell you atkins is better than slimfast. both stink if they are not VERY cold...but i decided that carb coutdown chocoloate milk is better than both so i use that like shakes instead.

I can tell you this, whatever powder one you find out about - be sure to get a blender or something. I got one of those little 'magic bullet' things for xmas and didn't have a use for it. Then when I started the Curves diet plan, part of it is a shake a day. I'm using their protein shake (just cause), and when they had us try it the first night, wasn;t impressed. Hand mixing just doesn't do it.

But when I put the milk, the mix, and a few ice cubes into the cup and blended it - wow. I really, really like these things. smooth and frothy, icy cause of the ice.

I do atkins shakes once in a while cause of ease, but love the taste of the curves one.
But I'm also a vanilla person, just not into chocolate at all.

In chocolate, I have only tried the Atkins shake mix; it was pretty good so I have not tried anything else. I use a blender and throw in a couple ice cubes.

Ive tried the slim fast and the carb options( found the carb options 4pk on sale at walmart a few weeks for 2.50, yippee) and i was so surprised when i found out the carb options tasted soooo much better than the slim fast. However i am an economy shopper just hope walmart decides to do another clearance of shakes again when i start running low. I bought 4 vanilla and 6 choc, that should hold me for a little while, if i was smarter, i would have cleared the shelf off, went back 2 days later to do that and they were all gone(boo hoo).

Also the hood choc milk definetly is the best, and if i can remember correctly it has 12g of protein per cup.

wow, mary kay. i never would have known what to do with those mixer things, either. now i'll have to keep my eye out. roadkingcole-thanks for the info. i've definitely eye atkins before, but the price kills me. like celetese...well, thank god for those sales!

my kid like breakfast bars. the 2 boxes for the price of one at the grocery made 'em _almost_ reasonable...

My recipe:
2 cups unsweetened organic soymilk (I use Silk brand) turn the blender on, then add:
4 scoops Carb Solutions chocolate shake mix
2 teaspoons fiber powder (I use Kroger brand physllium husk)
10 ice cubes

This makes 2 large servings or 4 small.
The fiber thickens the shake, and the ice cubes make it slushy.
I've even frozen it and ate it like ice cream. Marvelous, I tell you!

I don't do the shakes, but how about the breakfast bars, and such? any advice on those?

I don't like the mixes, they always taste a little powdery to me. I'm stuck on the Atkins shakes whcih I can get at sams for 19.73 for a dozen. Not great, but better than the groc store. Vanilla is my fave.

Leave it to me to revive such an old thread, but I too love the slimfast low carb shakes. Amazing low carb and 1 g sugar, 20 g protein.

I love the GNC Choc. one. it is 100 cal, no carb and no sugars... tastes like choc milk. It is kinda expensive but you make it with water. I love it fir quick breakfast.
