    palmicon 155 lbs to go...

Hi to all... I'm just starting today and as the title says I need to lose 155 lbs!
Any and all tips would be appreciated--I haven't been on a "real" diet for a few years now. I have thyroid disease and little ones and I just couldn't get it together for the longest time, but now I am ready to shed some (or all) of this excess weight for good!!! Thanks!!!

Welcome to the club, I too have thyroid disorder. I have Graves disease, and had the thyroid irradiated, and take thyroid supplements. They have had to keep upping it in the past year or so. 175 is what I am taking now. This way is about the only way I have been able to take the weight off. still have about 40 to go, but I know with perserverance I will get there.

    Welcome to LCE.

Best advice, if you haven't done so yet... get the latest book and read it. Read the forums, read the success stories, read what ever you can get your hands on [so to speak] This WOE really does work. Some folks lose fast, and some dont. Do not judge your weight loss with anyone elses, as we are all individuals and will lose at different rates.

Do not stress over how much you have to lose. Take things one day at a time, or even one meal at a time... YOU WILL get to your goal if you stick with this... and do think of it as a life style change not a 'diet'.

Again -- Welcome to LCE and we'll be here with your every step of the way.

Bravo Terese! Listen to her Julie, she's right. You might also want to take a look at this article: http://ezinearticles.com/?Is-Candida...es?&id=5673992 Either way, low carbing is beneficial for your thyroid, weight loss and general health. If you eat lots of veggies and a wide array of low carb foods it's a healthy way for your kiddies to eat too! Welcome and I hope you stick around and enjoy being an active member of this community, there's lots of support here.

Hi ladies...Thanks for all the encouragement...:0) Overnite, I lost 3 big ones...Yeah...I know it's mostly water weight at first, but a victory just the same!
Virginia, I take 300 for my thyroid, but I think it's a bit high because I was hyperthyroid here while back and told to "skip" one day a week. Then, I got sick with the flu and "skipped" too many days and my next bloodwork showed I was hypothyroid. Do you have this problem of stabilizing? I've had a terrible time over the years--partially because I was pregnant half of the time...
Terese, I don't want to sound like a dummy, but what "book"--Atkins?? and thanks for the one day at a time advice...my problem has always been..."I want to lose it right now, yesterday even, lol...) :0)
Margaret, thanks for the "article" and sending such a warm welcome...I feel at home already!!!

Julie -- if you are doing "Atkins" plan ... get that book. There is a book for all the Lower Carbs ways of eating out there.
    - But for which ever plan you are doing... it helps to have that book.

If you are just 'doing low carb' I guess you could research "ALL" the plans out there, and read the guidelines for each... though they are different in their own ways... So having a book to read and fall back on is helpful.

Most are at local libraries... so if you have one in your village ...it might be worth checking on or more out.

Can you lose weight with out reading any of the books... sure, but there will be times when it is helpful and enlightening to have and read one OR more.

I think when i started, i read Atkins, Protein Power, Schwarzbein Principle and South Beach [thought that one came out a few yrs later]

Julie, yes I have had trouble regulating my thyroid, I go in about every 3 or 4 months to get it checked along with my blood sugar, and a host of other things. It has been pretty stable with 175. I used to have hyperthyroid, and had it irradiated to kill it, now I take the synthroid. If you are doing Atkins, I would definitely pick up one of his books. I have the diet revolution, which is the basic one, which I have had it seems like forever, DH bought me the atkins for life starter kit, which has the phases in it , plus a program for a low carb lifestyle, and maintenance. We are all here for you, you can do this. Remeber what Terese said treat this like a lifestyle, and not a diet.

Hi Terese -- ok I get it now-- I thought you were talking about a specific book :0) I have TONS of low carb books (Atkins, Carbohydrate Addicts, Protein Power, low carb cookbooks and most of Suzanne Somers books) -- a virtual library!! I've tried them all and have had a wee bit of success from time to time. But between my thyroid, my llittle ones and a lack of committment, my success has always been short-lived. I haven't really stayed on much of a diet over the last couple of years and I turned 45 earlier this year. I decided it's now or never... I do like your approach on the one day at a time or even one meal at a time. My biggest problem (besides my weight...lol) is that I want it now, but that mentality hasn't helped me thus far, so I am ready to really stick with it and accept that I just can't eat like some people can without gaining weight. I must stop looking at this as a diet and more of a lifestyle! I am somersizing with an emphasis on low carbing.

Hi Virginia -- it sounds like you and I have traveled down the same road with our thyroid issues -- I too had Grave's and had to have my thyroid "zapped". I take the Levothyroxine. I used to take Armour, and it seemed to work better in some ways, but my pharmacy has a hard time keeping it stocked due to a chronic supply shortage. So I gave up and started taking the synthetic. I'm crossing my fingers that I will start feeling a better after I shed some weight.

Thanks again Ladies for all the encouragement--I really appreciate it :0) I only lost 1/2 lb overnite so I haven't updated my ticker, but hope to soon. I do want to say, last nite around 7pm, I had a surge of energy I haven't had in FOREVER. I know it's the w.o.e. That really encouraged me :0) It's becoming obvious to me -- that carbs (no matter how much I love them) are a poison to me and that should be enough incentive to stick with it. I told myself last nite "who cares if you lose weight, if you can feel like this". I'm sorry to carry on so, I just wanted to share that it was AMAZING to feel so well for a change. Talk to you soon. Happy Low Carbing... :0)

OH... i remember that energy burst!! i did not get it this time around. I may have 'spurts' every now and then, but certainly not like before. and I too hit 45 - so totally agree with the now or never... but for me,,, it's NOW, because i have to do this. I have the means, so why the heck not. with the bit menopause lurking right around the corner... it is NOW.

I totally understand, The best way I have found to stay on this lifestyle is to be prepared. Have lots of low carb foods around that you can graze on all day. I make egg squares that I can toss in the microwave, for a quick breakfast. The One Minute Muffin is wonderful, and takes a minute to cook. I will have tuna salad, or cooked chicken, salads on hand for easy lunches. Then try and prepare a nice meal in the evening, I am the only one lcing, so I usually do a side dish that is higher in carbs for them, and a lc veggie, and maybe a salad for me. Lots of recipes, and tips to keep the imagination going. One the kids love, say it reminds them of McDonald is browned hambuger, with mayo, mustard, tomatoes, onions and dill relish.

Hello ladies...well I lost another 1/2 lb :0) yahoo!!! It's very interesting being on a diet after not dieting for so long...So far it hasn't been too bad with the cravings, etc, (which is very surprising) but I do have to keep reminding myself "You don't get to eat THIS or THAT anymore". Sometimes, I almost forget and I'll have it halfway up to my mouth. It's little things like licking the peanut butter and jelly off the spoon or taking a little taste of the spanish rice to see if it's cooked just right, etc...but so far I've managed to catch myself just in time!...lol... :0)

Yes, Terese, that menopause is just around the corner...lurking... I'm already having slight symptoms...dry skin, night sweats, mood swings...but, I think as Margaret mentioned in her post, this woe should help with our general health and I think (I hope) that is key! Oh, and about the energy burst-I guess I bragged too soon, because yesterday I was SO tired and drained and I had a headache all day that would not budge. I think I'm having carb withdrawal...lol...at least, that's a good thing! I think I read that lcing can make you a little tired the first few days or so?

Virginia - I'm the only one lcing too, but I'm hoping my family will benefit. We are already all eating better. More protein, more veggies and less chips and sweets. My kids haven't complained as much as I thought they would, but it's only been a few days. I hope I'm (finally) incorporating some better eating habits by offering them healthier choices - of course, it will help that the other "stuff" is no longer in the house :0)
I'm offering them choices like cheese sticks and fruit. We used to drink soda at nite with our dinner, but no more. Now, they have the choice of water or milk. My hubby is on board too (he needs to lose about 35 lbs) and he is being very supportive about the changes. I think you are right about being prepared - I very carefully made out my shopping list before I started my new woe and I even made a mini menu and I still forgot a few little things that will help keep me legal. So, I'll be going shopping again soon... On that hamburger dish - is it crumpled beef with everything mixed in or a patty with the stuff on top? My kids would love anything that tasted like McDonalds :0) Talk to you soon. Happy Low Carbing... :0)

It's cooked ground beef. I will give you a link to it. Better for when you get off induction, if that's what you are doing, as it does have tomatoes, and onion in it. I either eat as is, or wrapped in lettuce, or in lc pita bread. Walmart does have some good lc alternatives to bread. Josephs bakery, pita and flat bread, usually in the deli section. I like to toast the flat bread in the oven, cut in small squares, season and use as crackers or chips But bread is bread, and may slow down the losing a bit. Glad every one is on board with this, it makes it so much easier to accomplish your goals, and keep your family healthy.

I love this site, but as I've mainly been somersizing, I've decided to spend most of my time on a somersizing site I found the other day. Congrats on the first 7 lbs Julie! We all know that it works... It's staying on plan that is half the battle... But sounds like you are Doing a great job. I totally get the issues when you are the only one lowcarbing it at home... But cooking lc for the whole family will help you and make the whole family healthier.. And will also help make it more of a lifestyle change.

When I started back two months ago.... I had 115 lbs to lose to hit my goal weight... And Ive had a few slip-ups along the way for a single meal but I always jump right back on plan... And I've lost 36.6 lbs so far. I started a challenge club for the month of April dedicated to setting a month long personal goal and seeing it through. My goal is a weightloss associated with a month of clean eating and putting in all my gym workouts. You should come join and set a goal.... Goals are great motivation. You can do this! I wish you the best!
