Default BC's Apricot Kidz

Many of you know I'm owned by two miniature apricot poodles.

Khaki is senior girl, 14-1/2, a serious, no-nonsense type whose job it is to be with me no matter what and to complain about it when she isn't. She was an obedience champ who knows about 30 tricks although some are beyond her physically now.

Token is 8 but the perennial puppy--athlete and acrobat who uses her silliness to cover a sharp brain. For Token there's never a time not to play.

The first picture is of Token at a few months old and Khaki getting a break from puppy harassment. The second is Token's first picture, taken at the breeders home. I think this was the first time I held her. In the third, both are outside waiting for me to do something interesting.

Then one of Khaki when I was photoshopping, looking just like her wise, sweet self. And one of Token in one of her more self-possessed moods.

My kids, for sure! Believe it or not I really need to take some new pictures!

Last but never forgotten are two at the Bridge. Here's Dawn's little memorial. Dawn was Khaki's older "sister," the dog who taught us about unconditional love. I don't seem to have any digitized pictures--too long ago.

The second is Charlie, my dear boy. He was an elderly rescue we were only blessed with two years but my heart still aches for him.

Thumbs up Re: Apricot Kidz

Bren, what adorable photos of your poo-girls.Their mommie also looks quite beautiful.

Khaki strikes me as the wise one and Token is definitely the diva of the pair. I love seeing their little personalities come shining through. Beautiful little furgirls.

I would love for Oz to have a brother or sister, just haven't been able to convince his dad.

Bren,
A-1, A-dorable pics of the girls and your furkins over the bridge, as well.

You know, Khaki does have that "wise beyond years" look, but such a sweet baby face at the same time.
Token, well, I can see that she is prolly a Cyndi Lauper type gal...yanno..."girls just want to have funnnn...yeah, girls just want to have fun!" LOL!

I had forgotten about your Charlie; you mentioned him when we converged.
He was definitely a handsome fella! I'm so glad you had a pic of him to post for us.

Definitely our furkins over the bridge are unforgetable; as it should be.

thanks for sharing your cherished family pics.

Brenda,
Your poodle babies are beautiful. I just love those little faces. But then I am very partial to poodles. I was wondering how you keep around their eyes looking so good?? Shiloh has these dark brown staining under her eyes...My first poodle was solid black and of course I didn't have that problem. But Shiloh has a silver face so I have been trying to figure out of how to take care of that....

Laurie, I honestly think it's as much a matter of biology than care. Some poodles over produce tears in relation to the size of their tear ducts. Charlie was that way, and staining was more of an issue than him than with Khaki and Token.

The biggest help has been that I have them groomed with clean faces, ie shaved rather than fuzzy, every six weeks. That really minimizes the appearance of tear stains. Charlie's eyes would have looked terrible with a lot of facial hair, but you can see by his picture above that with a shaved face the staining wasn't terribly noticeable. I don't groom them myself any more (bad wrist) but I occasionally will clip their faces in between groomings. Generally though, I find it's easier to take blunt scissors and trim just a tiny bit around the lower eyelid especially where the "clotted" stained hair is. You might try that if it's something you'd be comfortable doing. It seems like the more hair around the eye, the more the tears wick out and stain. I don't like to use commercial tear stain products, because even if careful I think the liquid could wick into the eye. If necessary, I will use a bit of saline solution and a soft hankie to clean. The saline solution won't hurt anything and the hankie doesn't lint.

It seems I remember that either a red or brown stain might be from a bacterial cause, too. I imagine your vet would have said something before now, but you might ask next time you're in the office.

Forgive me if I've over explained. I get intense about "dog stuff." Looking forward to seeing more pics of Shiloh and hearing about her adventures.

Bren,
Thanks for the info. No never too much. I am concerned now about the brown staining. I did not know there could be a bacterial reason behind it. I was trying to post a couple of pictures of her in her journal that showed exactly what it looks like, but I keep getting a file too large message. the pics I am posting are 640 X 480. I will keep trying. In the mean time do you think if it was caused by a bacteria that her eyes would bother her???? She shows no sign of any discomfort what so ever with her eyes...She is due for her shots next month, I may have to check into to this before then...
