| Ok, well, they needed a little help with the online ordering, but I've decided that my kitties are getting me a Cat Genie for Mother's Day.... And "we" ordered it last night...I'm very excited about it, being that Mom always has litter duty. I've wanted one from when I first saw them several months ago, so I did my research, read about a kajillion reviews, and finally put one on order. It cleans itself. I'll let you all know how it works out in case anybody else is considering one... |

| i'm SO excited i can't even tell you...i took my time deciding to oder it, 'cause hey, we're talking about a $300 litter box here, but eliminating the bulk of litter duty and the need to buy litter is worth quite a bit to me, and will make my days pleasanter. |

| Neat present Dixie! Luckily I have sandy to do the day to day cleaning of the cat litter, all I have to do is the occasional scoop and change. |

| kewl, Dix! I'll be interested to get your *product review* on it after it's trial run at your place. One of the cattery ladies I catmunicated with told me she had 2 of them, and that she would introduce the kittens to it at about 9-10 wks of age.(she didn't adopt out her babies until they were 14-16 weeks old). She said her cats did well with them. Dunno about my Kass...she's a little skiddish at times! ![]() Hope it's everything you need it to be and does a good job! ![]() ![]() ![]() s

| That's a new one on me! Wow, let us know how it works, Dix. I imagine each of your kitties will have a different take on it, don't you?

they're already in the laundry room, and the current box is pretty close to where the new one will best fit, so that will help. i also plan on getting a bag of the crystal litter beforehand since we've been using a different kind. gradual change, you know. and reload the feliway plugins, maybe get an extra one to put it nearby. those really do help, and i've been thinking of installing more anyway. can you tell i've had cats awhile? ![]() i will be sure to report back... |

| Well, it got here Wednesday. DH was tired, so we set it aside until this weekend to put up. Putting it together wasn't hard. I could have done that part without DH, but not as well. Then he spent about 15 minutes hooking it up to the water supply in the laundry room. I popped in a cartridge of cleaning solution and a box of their litter granules, and plugged it in! I haven't gotten my new Feliway plugin yet, so I moved one of the others I had in the room with it to help make the room especially kitty-calming. Within 15 minutes, Jules had visited, used, and completely investigated the new box, and plopped down on the floor a couple feet away, as if she just wanted to look at it. Poupon got in, but ran away when she eyed me peeking, so I decided I should make myself scarce. Haven't tried the cleaning cycle yet, but later today... |

| Oh goody!!! I love *product reviews* by someone who is NOT biased and will tell the truth! I was wondering if it had arrived yet...I was just gonna pop in here and ask, and ta-da! Yay! This may sound like a dumb question, and I haven't really investigated them fully, but how is the waste disposed of? Does it connect to the toilet some way? Hmmmm...I may be wishin' I had asked for one for Mom's day too! Can't wait to hear meoor about it! Sounds Purrrrfect! s

| It can connect to the toilet, or it can drain out the washer drain pipe, which is how we have it set up. I read a ton of reviews from people who had it, and the ones that did it in the laundry room seemed to be happiest. the toilet install has to be flushed, and it sounds like the seat over the hose sometimes caused clogs. (boo! clogs!!) It has a drain hose with a little hook on it, and when its doing the cleaning cycle, it liquifies the icky stuff and mixing it with a disinfectant/cleaning solution, several times, each time also pumping out the mix. After doing this several times, a blower comes on and the hand thing spreads out the litter and dries it all. It's pretty slow-takes 35 minutes a cleaning cycle! But we've seen it do one, and it did a very good job. I was also surprised how much the litter looked like ordinary litter. You can't use regular litter in it, becaue it tears it up; there are little slits in the bottom of the bowl where things drain out, and their litter doesn't absorb. It all runs through to the processing unit, where it will later be mixed with disinfectant and pumped out. The cats watched it and were a little leary, but they have used it and are very curious about it. We had it set up late this morning, and since then, I've seen all of them either in it, sniffing it, watching it, or whatever. DH and I are such nerds sometimes. We were so excited to see it go, we kept running to check the litter box, which cat is doing what in there, etc. I called it "Poo Patrol." We watched almost the entire first cycle. DD just shook her head and said we were nuts... |

I'm glad it's doing a good job and glad all your furkins seem to be happy with it. It may be your gift, but they are the ones that will give the *stamp of approval*, yanno? Keep us posted over the next several weeks. Sounds like a *dream come true* for no more kitty-litter duty! a BIG yay on that, fer shure!!!

| oh no, rob! i would have been in trouble if they started hollering every time it needed a clean...they knew my routine, though, and i always cleaned at the same time of the day. clean the box, wash up and make their breakfast. (before mine, of course!) so far, we're doing okay with it. i think i made a mistake in not hiding the cleaning cycle from the cats for a few days as they suggested in their guidebook. since they hopped right in and stared using it, i wasn't that concerned about acclimation and they were very curious about the cleaning cycle. they are still using it, but they appear skittish. I've seen them stalk it and gingerly, slowly get it, as if they're expecting it to take off any second! so i am trying to minimize the disruption of cleaning cycles now. shutting the door most of the way, hanging out nearby to reassure them, etc. I've also been putting catnip and treats in the room with the box to help make it more pleasant for them. and I've got two Feliway plugins downstairs pumping out kitty-calming artificial hormone smells 24/7...LOL. i also think they really do like the fact that it's always clean, and the cycle levels out the litter nicely, so it's easy to tell there are cats visiting. i did not keep the old box next to it without cleaning it (another suggestion from the book), as i considered that a last resort if they aren't taking to it. the sanitizing solution has a nice smell to it, and there is NO catbox odor in there at all, which is a big deal for me. we live in a pretty small place, and the utility/laundry/bathroom we're using for the catbox is right off the kitchen, so fresh-smelling is a must. so here at day four, we're adjusting. ![]() |

| This is very interesting to me. While my cats have access to the outdoors (and generally prefer it) there are stretches of heavy rain or just plain frozen that bring a little business to my basement "emergency" litter box.
