my cats all adjusted in pretty short order, like within a couple of days. the first few times it did a cleaning cycle, a couple were skittish, but they learned it won't start with one in it (has an infrared to detect a cat in there), and they LOVE the cleaner litter.
it is attached to the water and laundry drainage pipe. i have it set to go 4x a day, it scoops, runs water and sanitizing cleaner solution in the box and rotates the bowl, using the hand thing to wash the litter, then rinses and dries it out with hot air. the litter doesn't absorb - there are slits in the bottom of the bowl, so everything drains out the bottom. litter is biodegradable so whatever gets flushed isn't a problem. an impeller thing inside breaks everything down and a pump whooshes it out the drain pipe.
once in a great while it may clog, and i have to run water through the drain hose or possibly take it apart to clean out the insides, but i just got a new part that's supposed to minimize clogs. so we'll see. that happens maybe once every 3-4 months thusfar. i change the cleaner cartridge every couple weeks, and top off the litter stuff when it looks low. other than that, it's all automatic.
i am extremely attached to my catgenie...
