Default Ketosis Question

I was searching to purchase ketosis sticks online and the site I found had this to say about them:
Quote:
WHY DO I NEED TO TEST FOR KETONE?
Ketone is a substance that can be found in trace amounts in urine. However, when large amounts of ketone are found in your urine it is an indication of a serious problem, especially for people with diabetes.

Ketone is produced when you burn too much fat and carbohydrates. This situation is more likely to be found in people with Type I Diabetes (insulin dependent). When you produce a lot of ketones, it is a good indication that your diabetes may be out of control. This complication is called Ketoacidosis and can lead to a coma. The Urine Test for Ketone can provide a warning signal for you to contact a doctor or health care provider before your diabetes gets out of control. Your doctor or health care provider can then recommend the necessary actions for you to get better.
This is what I want to do, right? Put my body into ketosis on purpose? I am in good health otherwise, no diabetes. I just need reassurance that this is what I am supposed to be doing.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

Kathleen, There is a huge difference between ketoacidosis discussed in that blurb and ketosis. I noted in your profile that you do not list a specific low carb plan that you are following. Dr. Atkins discusses both ketosis and ketoacidosis in DANDR. In order to alleviate your concern on this issue, I suggest that you read DANDR. If you have not selected a low carb plan, I suggest you research several of them and find the one that you think you can follow. It is a lot easier adopting a l/c lifestyle and you will have a greater chance of success if you follow a specific plan, at least for starters, until you figure what tweaks you may need to make for you.

I just finished his New Diet Revolution last night. I plan on following his induction plan for the 14 days. I didn't put it in my profile because I didn't start it officially yet. I need to shop for groceries next week and am just following it as much as possible from my pantry right now. I guess I thought those were the Ketosis strips he said to get. I'll try to find some different ones. So maybe they are technically called Lipolysis testing strips? I checked the book and that's what he called them.

A lot of people don't show purple on the test strips, and lose weight quite well. It's easy to get obsessive about the strips, as well as the scales. They are both just tools, and are really not necessary in losing weight. Personally, I think the strips are too expensive, and you'd be better off using that money on some good lc food, or another lc book or cookbook. Just my opinion.

Oh so you don't really NEED them. That is great news. I would rather use the money for food. And I just ordered three LC books on paperbackswap so that saved me money too. Thank you.

you totally don't need the strips. some people like the confirmation, but consider them like another checkpoint that's completely optional. if you do ever get some, try cutting them in half lengthwise to get more for your investment.

and the difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis is confusing. need to do an FAQ on that because of that. for now, however, just refer to your Atkins book, as I know it's explained there far better than I ever could....
