| Just the smell of carbs can send me drooling, make me want to partake, not just a taste, but the entire batch of whatever it was that got me drooling! Funny, too, after I got to thinking of it. I got a whiff of perfume that triggered the sensation that I needed something to eat. Could it be the sweet smell of perfume reminds me of the sweet smell of those high carb goodies we certainly don't need to eat? Any body else have this happen? Sweet will trigger this first, but also other high carbs smells, like corn chips, or fresh bread, have the ability to send me into an eating frenzy. Of course, I try to avoid the offending items, and eat only lc stuff, but still, it's really annoying to have trigger foods that can disrupt life. And usually it doesn't take much of a lc snack to satisfy the monster. Sometimes just a glass of water or a cup of coffee or tea does the trick, too. Gotta tame that beast in a way that won't let it rear its ugly head very often!

| Yes Nita! I've learned to avoid the mall entrance that forces you to pass right by the cinnabon. Those smells drive me crazy and undermines my willpower something awful.

| That's interesting, Nita. I remember reading something somewhere...I can't remember where...that said cravings is one of the signs of food addictions. But I can't remember much else about it at present. Ana - You may want to try faux rice for your dishes. It does make a pretty nice replacement. Bread is a tough smell for me, but I'm sure the Cinnabon would be worse, Rob! I'm glad I don't go anywhere regularly that has one of those...

| The smell of pizza drives me nuts, along with dounuts, and any fresh baked bread. Usually have to stay away from the grocery store in the mornings, the smells from the bakery is almost unbearable....Yep, I'm a carb addict, that's for sure. |

| The late great Dr. Atkins, once stated something along the lines of ......The only way to resolve addiction is through abstinance. The smell of a fresh polish bakery.........the smell should be bottled......because that would be my drug of choice. I am an addict through and through...and I will struggle a lifetime. I will never be cured....sad but cold hard facts. I have read time and time again that I need to understand why? I can't for the life of me figure out why? Other than my biological mother (I was adopted) had the same cravings and she loved wine. She ate and drank both of the while I was in her womb. Is that the reasoning? I don't have the longing for wine like I do for dougnuts. Do you know that I was actually SAD to see Krispy Kreme close their doors. I thought...oh that was my last lemon filed, powered sugar dream...is gone. The thought and rereading this.....makes me crave it and solvate. That for some reason is my comfort. (Forget any pototoes, pastas, even candy?....give my baked goodies.......) But, right now I feel that "thin tastes better." and that I want to be in a bikini this summer more so than ever......dare I say that THIS time around is different. Our addiction is one day at a time, forgiving if we give in, and patting on the back when we don't. Thanks for the great thread.....no suprise though.....

| No, it sure isn't a surprise that so many of us are addicted to carbs, whether it's sweets, breads, chips & pretzels, etc. I really wonder if a lot of our addiction is due to being exposed to so much hidden sugar in our foods - foods that 40 years ago did not have added sugar, especially corn syrup, added. I think, too, that a lot of our foods are so deficient in nutrients (case in point - white bread), that our bodies are craving the vitamins & minerals that are no longer in our over-processed foods, so we overeat to compensate, and we all know that the more we eat of that stuff, the more we crave it due to being on a blood sugar/insulin roller coaster ride. For me, the best thing to do is stay away from the stuff, or, if exposed, just remember that it's poison for me.

| Me too. A carb addict. Abstinence is the only way for me. I have resisted the double fudge chocolate cake that is lurking in my china closet (I package it in individual servings for the one who eats it-put it in the china closet and close the door). Really didn't think about it all day when I was home alone. Now I've just had a diet canada dry (unusual as I stay away from sodas) just to taste something sweet.... and I feel lousy now. I don't even feel like making some saccharin whipped cream with cocoa in it... which usually helps when it gets bad. I do know it is poison for me ... carbs. I haven't dropped any weight in a while but I expect to move down soon... been good about the LCE but not eating enough. |
