I am wondering if I add a stick pack of benefiber(3 gm. fiber) to a 11 carb yogurt does it change the net carb to 8? Or if I add 2 tubes(6 gm. fiber) to a 13 carb soup will it turn the net into only 7 carbs? This benefiber is in powder form and can be added to any drink/soft food/soup. I think it is a wonderful way to add fiber and was just curious if anyone had any ideas about the changing of the net carbs? Any ideas/tips/thoughts/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks all, keep up the good work.Cheryl |

| Short answer: No. If your yogurt has a net carb count of 11 gms per serving, and you add 3 gms of fiber, you change the total carb count to 14 but the net carbs are still 11. If you add 6 gms of fiber to a 13 carb portion of soup, you now have a soup with a total carb count of 19, but subtracting the fiber, it is a serving with 13 net carbs. In other words, by adding fiber, all you do is increase the fiber content of an item. HTH

| Wouldn't it be great if it did??? But no such magick there. I take a fiber supplement myself, and I find that tends to help alot with keeping things moving on through, as it were. Although I eat a lot of veggies, I still feel I need the extra fiber, so supplements it is. You have to seriously check labels on fiber supplements though - if you look, you can find those with no extra carbs. A good fiber supplement will have the carbs equal to the fiber, but many of the chewable ones have extra carbs, and some of the drink mixes (ugh). It even changes depending on when you bought it - the last couple in the bottle I have now are 4 carbs for 2 tablets, 4 grams of fiber, which is where I want them to be. I went to get another bottle today, and the exact same type now had 7 carbs, with still only 4 grams of fiber, so I had to find another kind. So even if you think you're buying what you bought before, you should still check the label (that's probably good advice for whatever we buy, eh?) Sue |
