Default Ketosis mouth

My mouth has been sooo dry and taste bad.
Drinking helps a bit but in the end it still tastes bad
Yes I brush more, I drink water, and once in a while a peice of gum.
I can only assume the bad taste is following bad breath

do you have this too?

Yes and no to answer your questions. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

In my case I've worked out that a dry mouth means I'm not getting enough liquid into my body and I drink 1 gallon of water per day at a minimum. However, my body demands for fluid go up and down and I can only drink so much water a day. Hmmm.... there had to be a way.

What I discovered is that if I increase eating raw vegetables - especially raw JUICY vegetables, it helps my dry mouth, and that funny feeling on my tongue. Things like cucumbers, celery, jicama, work pretty well for me. And - maybe because these raw veggies clean my tongue and mouth - my breath gets better also.

Hope this helps you too,
~K

Question Re: Ketosis mouth

When I do low carb I have to drink constantly and I'm still thirsty and my breath...TERRIBLE! I don't think there is a cure, just goes with the territory and I'm afraid to chew gum or mints because of the carbs! Maybe breath spray or something? Any other suggestions anyone? Good question and maybe more of you out there have some miracle cures!?

Thanks Sandi! Any sugarfree brands better or lower in carbs or 0carbs you know of?
Hey and you are down 10 pounds! That's great, just think of if you weren't doing this? I gave up last time because it was so slow and now I regret it. I have regretted it for a long time, thinking "what if?" I quit because it wasn't working fast enough but the moment you quit the weight comes back on AND some! So just try to hang there! (here I am only on my 4th day and acting like an expert!) Sometimes encouraging others encourages oneself as well! So keep up the good work, slow and steady wins the race! (Yep, I know, now I sound like a Hallmark writer!) ha ha!

I chew sugar free gum. The sugar free orbits has one carb per piece. You just have to look at the labels. I have also used those breath drops but I am not sure if they are sugar free. Also a dose of mouth wash works great. And of course doing what your doing, as far as, drinking the water and brushing your teeth. On a lighter note at least you know your in ketosis!

Thanks! It's not too bad yet, I'm pretty obcessed with brushing my teeth anyway and really only my cat and DH have to deal with it, but I DO have a thirst that won't stop but that's good, I love to drink tons of water.

Back when I was actively in ketosis, I would get peppermint extract and put a couple of drops into my water. I think I need to start doing it again.

interesting and sounds yummy! Extracts are fine then? zero carbs? Also a good way to give you some flavor to the water every now and then. In all your water or just as needed or once daily?

Extracts are fine as long as the aren't glycerine or other sugar syrups based. Read the labels. I get Peppermint Oil (food grade) drops from Nature's Sunshine Products. It's very concentrated......1 drop goes a long, long way. If you can find food grade peppermint oil drops at a health food store, you should be fine. I would ask first if it's food grade. There are some essential oil drops out there that are just for perfuming, so watch your labels.

I have the dry mouth big time which is okay I guess because it makes me drink tons of water but really the bad breath hasn't hit yet which worries me...maybe I am doing something wrong and NOT in Ketosis yet? Last time my sticks never turned purple and that's why I quit LCE! I'm trying to keep myself from checking this time but maybe I will in a week or when I Know I am and my breath is stinky!

Hey yall, I have it too! Back when my grandfather was alive and suffering from Sogrins (is it sho?) syndroms, another one of the autoimmune disorders that go along with RA and Fibro, I found several brands of toothpaste and mouthwash specificaly for dry mouth. The constant dry mouth is very bad for your teeth and gums, so we have to deal with it. I was just about to write the name of the one we bought-- it was cheaper and also worked the best. But of course i had one of those senior moments my mom calls "blonde flashbacks". Cant recall, but its in the toothpaste section and it has DRY mouth on the label. The mouthwash has a glycerin-ish feel and sweet taste, so we need to check the carbs and sugar. I think they also make a dry mouth chewing gum. It is expensive for gum, but not if it saves your teeth. Can't go shopping for a couple of days because of commitments, but i will post it when I find it. Meanwhile I am drinking all my water today before i leave school. I have open house so will be here from 7:30 am to about 7:30 pm, so that should n't be too hard, lol. I have all my bottles lined up on my desk.
Looks silly, but I am going to get enough water for once or float out the door.
Take care.
Cetaphyl? that might be it.

Dude, I bet you're right!! I have senstive teeth and am using Biotene now and though I still have to drink water a lot it is not half as bad as before and as I said, no real pukey smelling breath yet and I wonder if that is it? they a few brands now of mouthwash and toothpaste specifically for that and I will look today and buy some at Walgreens when we go over there this afternoon for our flu shots!
**Yep Walgreens is starting today with flu shots for $24.99, so DH and I are going when he gets home around 3:00! - fyi

So thanks for jiggling my blonde brain as well! lol!
