1. What is a meat and eggs diet? There are no diets that I know of that consist of just meat and eggs. At least not any recognized low carb eating plans. 2. Yes, all dairy has some carbs. Heavy cream is the lowest per ounce. CHeeses have about 1 g per ounce.

Welcome, Meat..eater.

In your profile, you indicate that you're following the Atkins plan. As Libby pointed out, you may want to review your book, since there is much more variety in this plan - even induction - than a menu limited to meat and eggs.

Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

As Dr. Atkins said, (and I missed it the first time I read DANDR!!) "calories do count". The meat and egg fast is a very low carb method that some people try to "shake-up their metabolism" to break a stall. Stalls are very frustrating. As you try to lose weight and have had success, the natural tendency is to extrapolate a rate of loss and say something like, "It took me 6 months to lose 40 pounds, I should lose the other 20 pounds in 3 more months." Unfortunately, weight loss does not work like that. How long have you been stalled? Have you looked at your total calories you are consuming? Are you eating too few calories and thus putting your body into "starvation mode" where it slows down its metabolism, or are you eating too many calories where it makes no difference how many carbs you are consuming? In addition, there are some foods that are very calorie dense (Cheese, dairy, nuts, etc.) though low in carbs, that can easily cause you to eat more calories than your body can use and thus convert the unused calories to fat. Please post some menus and maybe we can spot some things that might be causing a stall.

if you're hungry, eat!

remember, the goal isn't the lowest number of carbs possible, it's figuring out the right number for you. If you're highly active, you may feel and function better at a higher level of carbs than someone who is less active.

it's easy to get into the crash diet mentality where you're tempted to think less is better...especially when stressing over a pause in losses. pauses are part of how it works for about 95% of the people i've seen acheive long-term success. nobody like 'em but virtually everybody has them.

i'd suggest adding some veggies and seeing what happens, not just in terms of losses, but especially how you feel. that's one of the most important indicators of how you're doing.

good luck.

well.........
I plugged your food intake into fitday and here's your numbers:
3,146 calories
227g fat
251g protein
8g carbs
2g fiber
6g net carb

And yes, many folks like the idea of NOT having to worry about calories, but the good Dr himself said they do matter. Often they matter though, the closer you get to goal after a significant weight loss.
Dr Atkins states in DANDR, "...people who do not lose weight on a 1,000 cal low fat diet will lose weight on an 1,800 - 2,000 cal meal plan---if carbohydrates are limited to 20 gms per day."

I interpret that as meaning, Dr Atkins didn't mean for us to totally ignore caloric intake, despite having an uber low carb intake.
Yes, your carbs are certainly uber low for the day, but frankly, unless you weigh over 300 lbs, I think your caloric, intake is waaaay to high, and your protein intake may also be on the high end as well.
I think you could have way more food to eat if you spent your whole 20g of carbs on veggies and salad greens, and decreased your protein and fat intake by 30 or 40g or so.
Just my 2 cents.

good luck.

thanks for expanding, shell. i didn't plug in the numbers so mostly just noticed the lack of veggies from eyeballing the menu, but can say from personal experience when i overdo calorie dense foods, even at a reasonable carb level, i can tell the difference on the scale.

Yeah! I agree with Maggie there is a lot of variation to the meat and eggs diet if you're using the Atkins plan. But what's important is your satisfaction you can always tweak your diet program a little as long as your receiving the same positive results. Nothing is constant anyway. Good luck! By the way I am just new in here, Hi to everyone!
