Default Ketosis

Does anyone know, what does it take to get your body into ketosis?

It seems as though it has never happened for me. I don't test regularly but a friend did have some strips and I tested this past weekend and I am still apparently not in ketosis after almost 3 months of LC eating.

Just wondering, what is the key to getting into ketosis?

low carbs totally
but some people never show ketosis in the pee strips, and the strips are not that "true"

When i am in ketosis my mouth taste funny and its always dry.
Also it doesnt matter if you are light or dark on the strips. The purple means there are excess ketones, doesnt m eant its better to be dark or light.
Also do it when you wake up, first pee, so its not a diluted pee.

In the end if your losing, it is all good!!!!

Some people describe Ketosis breath as smelling of acetone (think finger nail polish remover). To me it smells and tastes like a dinosaur crawled into my mouth and sinuses and then died. Not the sinus infection rotted mouth taste though, although right now I seem to have both. I feel like bringing a mask to school-- it would be great! 1. I could intimidate the kids into being quiet, or intrigue them anyway, I never actually intimidate anybody. 2. I don't run the risk of grossing out children and staff (and believe me, a kindergartener will announce that to the world). and 3. I would have to think before putting anything into my mouth. Hmmmm what a plan! Oh, and it protects from flu!
Back to the ketosis thing: How many carbs are you eating? I only go into ketosis if I am on 20 g or less of carbs per day. Also, my water intake has to be high enough and my calorie intake: Not scientific, but it seems to me if i drop too low on calories (even if it is almost no carbs, ie all meat) that my metabolism slows down. I don't lose weight and I don't burn much fat either, just stuck in a holding pattern. If I up the calories, lower the carbs, and drink looooooots of water, the ketosis occurs and the fat seems to melt away.

You might try alternating weeks of induction/owl, try a fat fast (see Atkins), or go back on induction for a week or two. Those things have worked for me in the past. Upping my exercise helps too, but only to get my metabolism going-- If i am not eating enough my body seems to be able to store fat even when i am exercising like crazy.
And, as Sandi said, you might be or have been in ketosis and not showed up on the strips.
All kinds of factors seem to affect the strips, including humidity, brand, age, and who knows what else.
As Sandi said test first thing in the morning. Have you had a funny taste in your mouth and been very, very dry? (fat burning takes more water) You are probably in ketosis.
Either way, keep drinking all the water you can hold!!!

Maybe my problem is the water...I still struggle to drink enough of it everyday. If I talk a lot I do get a dry mouth but thought it was just from running my trap. Maybe it is a form of ketosis. I guess as long as I am losing I won't worry about it but I wondered if I'd be losing more if I could get in ketosis. I'll try to up the water and see what happens.

Thanks Ladies!

Hello I am new I cannot keep to the straight and narrow I just have to have fruit. How much is too much? I have frozen berries every evening after my dinner. I am good all day, protein, salad, steamed veggies. I exercise every day laying on my bed as I am disabled and cannot stand or walk without a frame.
Is there a plan anywhere here that people can consult or do you do your own thing. I can see a huge difference in my size, I just did not realise I was so big until I saw some photos of me of 12 months or so ago. I am also on medications which make it difficult, there is improvement that is what matters

hello, frilly.

people here choose different plans, but Atkins is probably the most popular. I like Atkins because, while you can have fruit, you GRADUALLY add in stuff like berries, a little at a time, until you learn exactly how much you can eat without gaining. Sounds like a structured approach like that may be helpful for you...
