Talking Back On The Lc Wagon

Hey Everyone!
Just want to introduce myself - I am new to LCE website but not new to Atkins and LC Lifestyle. I too have used LC eating in the past with success losing up to 60 lbs and like others gained it back when I went back to my old eating habits. The reality is I am a terrible sugar addict and whenever I allow myself those kind of treats things just get out, way out of control :0~ It's been about 8 years since I've used LC to lose weight and I am really excited about all the info on the web, great recipes and support from all of you!! I made it through week one with 2 1/2 lbs gone although I can remember in the past losing 4-6 lbs the first week. I was a little disappointed and decided to go back and do some reading about the induction phase and have cut out the broccoli and other vegs with more carbs. I also had to say goodbye to all the cheese I was eating - forgot how those carbs can add up. Hopefully the WL will pick up this week and I'll be on my way to my goal of better health! Happy New Year to all of You!

Hi Karen,
Welcome to LCE!
Lots of good folks here for support and friendship along your journey back to optimum health and weight the LC style.
Don't eliminate to many veggies; about 10-15g of carbs per day should come from veggies when you are in the induction phase.

As for the cheese, I also have to be careful as I tend to get carried away at times with a good hunk-o-cheddar! LOL!

Best of luck to you. We're glad you're here!

Welcome, Karen.

I hear you on the sugar. I avoid it like poison!

As for losing slower - well, you're 8 years older, so your metabolism is probably slower. I lost quickly in my 30s, but now that I'm in my 50s, it's really slow going, but it's still losses, nonetheless.

I hope you find lots of info and encouragement here.

Hello, Karen.

It is easy to eek back into those old habits, I know. I've found that when I do the "a little sugar won't hurt me" thing, before I know it, it's become a little sugar every day, and the craving monster starts. It's never gotten as bad as it was before I started low-carbing, but I've come to believe that will always be with me if I don't keep it in check.

Do your best not to get discouraged because the scale is going down a little slower than you'd like. I always suggest people use lots of ways of measuring progress because the scale is only one.

How do you feel? How's your energy levels? Have you taken your measurements? How are you sleeping? How's your appetite? All of these areas are other indicators of how well your eating plan is working for you, after all. So pick the one that's most encouraging and focus on that.

Fact is, if you're going down and feeling well, you're probably doing a lot of things right. Taking the long term view towards building habits you are comfortable with living with, a pound or two here or there begins to matter less, and your overall health takes center stage. The bonus is when you take care of the health, the weight comes off at the same time.

And let's face it-who of us loses fast enough to suit us? I don't, I'll tell you right now! I'll cop. But it's ok. Because low carb has moved from the status of "diet" for me to just how I eat. The way I see it, we are seeking our low carb zen, essentially. Lifetime Zen, preferably.

Peace out.

Karen, I would like to welcome you aboard LCE.

Green, non-starchy veggies are good for you so don't cut out too many. The cheese, well that's another thing. I really have to watch cheese, it will slow or stall my progress.

Make yourself at home around here!

Welcome Karen: I have to admit that I have to simply not eat sugar during induction. I haven't come to the point of cutting it entirely out of my life, but it does seem like a "drug" sometimes. If I start I can't stop! So, I don't eat much of it.

Welcome to our family. I hope you'll come back often.

Peace, Peg
