Default Hi all

My name is Margaret and I've been rude. Sorry! I've been posting all over the place without having made my introduction. But then I've never been one to let protocol slow me down! I'll be 50 yo in a few months, am type II diabetic who is now controlling completely by low carbing. My husband is also low carbing and diabetic. I have 3 grown kids; being a Mom never stops. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada, an avid gardener (in spite of that!) and love to cook anything and everything. I'm particularly enjoying the challenge of adjusting our old high carb favourites to new low carb versions.

For years we were the poster family for Canada's Food Guide and the Diabetes Association of Canada. I can't remember the last time we ate or bought white flour or rice. We ate tons of legumes, veggies, complex carbs of all kinds, avoided sugar like the plague. Cooked low fat and so on. We ended up diabetic with high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. We all gained weight and now my kids have to be very careful regarding weight gain. Apparently the food guides are designed to guide you to obesity, disease and the grave. Oh yeah, I'm a cynic too!

Margaret

Welcome, Margaret! Nice to see a couple doing low carb. My dh has been on board with me, which keeps me pretty honest in this way of eating (woe).

I hope both you and your dh find lots of success in your low carb journey.

Margaret, you're cracking me up!

Delighted to have you join in, wherever you see fit to hop on board. And again, congrats on the great progress for you and DH. Does my heart good to hear about that.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Margaret,
I like you already!!!

And I totally agree with you about the food "guides." HA!
I'm a type II diabetic also and I controlled it for several years solely with low-carb. I fell off the wagon a couple of years ago due to a personal trauma, but I am back on track now and losing slowly, but steadily. My numbers are also starting to improve.

Welcome to LCE & please do keep posting. You have a great attitude.
