balloonicon Hi ya'll!

I am 67 years old. I am aging and putting on weight. I am in very good health and very active. Two weeks ago I started eating low carb meals and have lost only 2 pounds. I think this will work but I need structure and a plan. I have tried every diet on the market.
My health is better than my age...you have alway heard the aches and pains come and go...well at this stage in my life they come but don't leave, in fact they not only stay but invite their friends and relatives to come visit and they stay. I know losing 20-30 pounds will help me to be healthier and will have more stamina.

I am married to the same man for 45 years, this year, and have two sons and nine grandchildren. I retired last year from managing a counseling center. I love to travel, swim, read, bible study, knit and am an avid gardener. I love life! Linda

Kitty Re: Hi ya'll!

to LCE, Linda!!

For clarification...you say you are eating "low carb meals", so does that mean you are following a specific LC plan, or are you trying to low carb it *on your own*? If you are doing the latter, you might really want to consider reviewing a few plans and pick one in particular, get the book/instructional materials and follow it formally until you get comfortable with your plan. The most popular plan here at LCE seems to be Atkins, followed closely by protein power and southbeach.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't reference my book(DANDR...Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution), so that's why you may hear it often said..."get the book!"...hehe!

We're glad you're here. Post often and let us know how you are doing, and join in on any of the topics in any of the forums. Lots of good info and support here, and lots of GRRRREAT folks as well!

Best wishes on your journey to good health and good healthful eating!

Also...good for you on the swimming and your busy lifestyle!!
The exercise component is often the hardest one to manage, but it sounds like you are already there!!! yay!!

I'll second Shell's advice (and your own conclusion) that starting on a plan is the way to go. In the last few years that I've hung around here, I can tell you there is a big difference in the level of success between people who pick a plan and those that don't. After you've done a plan a while, you learn to tweak it to best fit your own lifestyle and body, but at first, that plan becomes your roadmap.

And also, many folks doing it on their own tend to try and eliminate all or most carbs, which isn't a great idea. You need your veggies!

you're cracking me up, Linda!

Do be aware that with 20-30 to go and a history of dieting forever, and with the annoying changes that come as we age, it will probably be especially gradual in coming off. Just the way it seems to work.

Wow! Quite a family, huh? Congrats on the 45 years! Always warms my heart to hear about long-term couples.

We also have a number of folks here that share several of your interests I know, so I'm betting you'll feel right at home. And gardening time is right about here!

Glad to have you join us!

Welcome, Linda!

I can't add much to what the others have said, just to emphasize the need to choose a plan and read the book!

And with only 20 or 30 lbs to lose, count on it going slowly, which is what you want to do, anyway. It's easier to keep it off when you lose it slowly and steadily. Plus, it's harder to lose as we age, as I can well attest. Losing in my 30s and 40s was easy; in my 50s, well, it's a long, slow process. But I'm healthier now than I've been in ages, so it's well worth the journey, however slow it might be.

9 grandkids! Wow! I'll bet you're a fantastic grandma, too.

Hope you find lots of support and encouragement here.
