Default Intro & ? about too much fat

Hi I am new and I'm Evie,

I have a hundred pounds to lose the hard way so I am just beginning to low carb. I am trying to keep the carbs at or under 20 per day following Atkins induction from memory. The problem is, I am eating too much fat and after 5 days on the diet 3 days I've had diarrhea. It is hurting. So I have tracked my food and realize I am way overdoing the fat and need to eat more protein that isn't fat and maybe some fiber somehow that isn't high carb.

I tried to get some fiber in by eating an apple a while ago and went to track it and found I had just eating 22 carbs in the apple! That was a real bummer! I ate salad today and some fish and cheese and I'm wondering what else to eat that won't bust my diet but will balance me out. Any ideas?

Thanks and looking forward to better times and knowing you!
Evie

Your best bet is green vegetables.
from the Atkins site:
Atkins - Phase One

Quote:
Vegetables
You should eat 12-15 net carbs a day of vegetables. These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber:

alfalfa sprouts
daikon
mushrooms
arugula
endive
parsley
bok choy
escarole
peppers
celery
fennel
radicchio
chicory
jicama
radishes
chives
lettuce
romaine lettuce
cucumber
māche
sorrel
but you should definitely get the book. It gives a lot more information than you can get on the web, and provides a lot of inspiration to keep you going.

Welcome Evie!

I'd just echo what MK has already said: More veggies to start, and getting the book is a MUST. People who get the book pretty much always do better than those that wing it.

glad to have you with us!

Thank you. I have eaten a half a red pepper and some mushrooms in the past couple days besides a couple salads so that is good.

Goddess, you were very successful obviously to have lost so much. That is an encouragement for me since I also need to lose 100 lbs at least. I do have the book buried somewhere but I am moving Sat so it is packed. I will get on track.

Thank you, Evie...it means a lot to me to know that my experiences can help encouarge others. I can tell you one thing without a doubt: my participation on this website, which I initially found when I was about 30 pounds down, I credit for a LOT of my success. Evie-Welcome. I was wondering as I read your post if you were eating too much butter. Usually during the induction phase of Atkins people have some minor problems with constipation, not diarrhea. I always have problems if I eat too much butter probably a form of lactose intolerance. Just a thought.
Good luck with your weight loss-I've lost over 40 pounds so far and still have over a 100 pounds to lose, so I know what you're going through.

Thanks again ladies. I am eating too much fat.I need to eat some chicken for a while I guess. The steak even though it doesn't look like it has fat does and the eggs are fat.

Default Me tooooo

HI Evie!
I am having the same problem as you and today is day 7 for me. I am having problems with the salads I think, I don't think it so much the fat because I am not having to much of that,,, go figure that we have the same problem with different issues... I am hoping that it gets much better as the days go on... I also wasn't a water drinker at all until this page in my life so that might be part of my problem to, my body doesn't know what to do with that clear stuff....lol.. Good Luck! G

Ginger, hi and good luck on your new journey. I'm not drinking as much water as I should be yet, but I am drinking decaf tea with splenda. I'm making the tea pretty weak too so I count it as water. Today so far I have just eaten Turkey which is the lowfat kind and chicken. I am hoping I have a good day by being careful. Hopefully we'll both get it right. Last time I did the Atkins I was constipated a lot and needed more water to help with that.

Some fat is good because it helps with hunger. I trim all visible fat and when eating beef get sirloin or Laura's lean beef when on sale. The diarrhea could be the drastic change in eating and will pass and go the other direction where you will need fiber...lol.

I'm new here and I would like to know how you know it's the fault of the fat that you have diarhea?
Did you count your fat grams or percentage of fat? What are those numbers supposed to look like?

welcome, hapi! glad to have you with us.

i don't know that it was the fat causing problems. honestly, it's not unusual for dramatic changes in one's diet to cause various blips for a few days until one's body adjusts, and everyone is sensitive to different things.

regarding how much fat one should eat, it is going to vary by plan. what plan are you on?
