| Hi, I'm new too... I was fatigued the first few days myself but it gets better. you don't necessarily have to show Ketosis for it to be working and to see loss. Just remember to measure as well as weigh in. I have learned the scale is not my friend and actually exiled mine to the guest bathroom. HA! |

| Welcome--hope you find lots of support here. Ketosis is a funny thing, but no matter what those results are, you can still be losing. I've heard some folks say they never showed positive for ketosis, and still lost well.

| hello, barimis. i assume from your post you meant you heard the recent reserach about low-carbing being more effective (and not low fat). it's very common for people to feel crummy the first few days of atkins while their body adjusts. usually once you get past this, you have increased energy and decreased appetite, so there are rewards for perservering. as far as ketosis, karen is right: it doesn't matter whether you show in ketosis or not so long as you're feeling good and getting results from your changes in eating. think of it as just another way to check up one what's going on with your body. glad to have you join us!

| I'm glad I found this place too. I lost 40 pounds on low carb, I won't call it anything specific. I read the Atkins book and followed it some, but never checked for ketosis or anything, I never was a big fan of green veggies, I only like the bad stuff, so I had to take vitamins. I guess I was one of the lucky ones, after the first week or so of carb withdrawls, I started dealing with it pretty good. Being a big meat eater anyway, this was a pretty good deal for me. I drank diet mountain dew and low carb beer, did well. My problem was I learned months down the road that I could cheat, I am weak when it comes to sweets. I actually learned how many times I could have a snickers bar a week and still lose a pound or two. I'm sure this was bad for my health, but hey, it was chocolate. Anyway, long story short, I gained 10 or 15 back from binge eating. I became convinced I had some kind eating disorder, I don't know. Got back serious about the LC last week. Stickin with it this time. It's nice to read other peoples stories about this, helps me keep going. |

Keith. Because of the science supporting a low/controlled carb lifestyle, it is usually easier to tweak an established l/c plan to account for personal differences than to sorta follow a plan. Our bodies have a nasty way of letting us know that we are not eating as we should. Or, to phrase it another way, our bodies are very proficient at processing carbs, it converts them straight to fat. Everyone must find what works for them. I wish you luck in your weight loss journey.

| Well, that's basically what I did, I tweaked the Atkins plan, stayed under 20 grams for first few weeks, that made a believer out of me in a hurry. Only difference was I didn't eat any veggies. I never liked salads or anything like that. It works as long as you stick to it, that was my problem. I lost a little more than 40, kept it off for months, then got careless. Now Im back in carb withdrawl hell for a few days. I knew better than to stray, even told the wife when she started, this isn't a diet, it's a life change. LOL, she lost 40 and has kept it off. |

| wow! i always love it to see couples who lc together. makes it so much easier. and hey, i think most of us can relate to the carb-creepies and how easy it is to get a little too complacent. kudos to you for getting back in the drivers seat, and congrats to you and the mrs. for your progress thusfar!

| Thanks and glad to meet y'all. It's a little harder to LC in a rural area, as a lot of the LC substitute products are unavailable now that the Atkins diet isn't as popular as it was a few years back. She was getting some 3 net gram tortilla wraps in the nearest town, and last week we find they don't have them any more. gr.rr.Anyway, nice to meet folks with a common interest in this, thanks for advice and support. |

| Welcome, Keith. I hear ya on living in the boonies. Our little town of 6000, county of 8500, is 50 miles from the next sized town, we have to travel 75 miles to find the low carb tortillas. Bummer. I'm not a big salad fan, either, but love other veggies, especially fresh and steamed with butter. Nothing like fresh summer squash! Wishing you and your sweetie much success on the way of eating.
